What are you working on for Duke right now?  "Post about whatever Duke related stuff you're doing"

Hopefully Epic doesn't shut me down for this, but couldn't resist bringing DM-Gael action to EDuke32, mano-e-mano with the Alien Queen boss:

Posted Image

EDIT: Well, it's not exactly one-on-one...I forgot that the Queen gives birth to drones. Oh well, if I need to change to a different boss creature to go one-on-one with, may as well look around. <_<

Of course they won't.

Makes me think.. it's annoying that the Queen's lightning attack can't be avoided, maybe something like the Overlord anticipating your movements would be a lot more challenging (you wouldn't just be able to circlestrafe him)

Well, ever since the early days of Duke 3D, and Shadow Warrior, and all those, I've always been a big fan of close-quarter mapping. I feel that full-scale, large maps bore the hell outta me, especially in multiplayer. Maps like these certainly should make a comeback, imo. People have gone too fancy, schmancy, and putting more emphasis on making too big of an environment, and not enough on the gameplay. I feel that Galacticus Prime sent a big message to those who think that bigger and fancier in UT3 was always better, it's not always the case.

Nonsense. It's just that before developers were more constrained by engine limitations. It's not about being "fancy, schmancy" but about doing what's best for your game given the engine constraint.

Also if you compare gameplay of older games to newer ones you'll see that, for better or for worse, gameplay is much more directed and handholding than before. This takes some difficulty out of gaming sometimes but it does show that developers are still very much trying their best to get some good gameplay going.. they don't always succeed, but it's the thought that counts.

Who/what is "Galacticus Prime"?

Well, heh...gotta bring back maps that I made back in the '90s to newer games, and constantly update them. Whatever I map in Build/Mapster32, I just redevelop it as a UT2004/UT3 map.

@Norvak:
Looks pretty awesum! I like the outdoor area most. Nice colours, good overall design and shading. The backround is beautiful.
But why is it lagging so much?

Fraps maybe?
Or it's done like that to the beat of the music? <_<

Sunstroke is right.

Doesn't look too bad, though.

It could have just lagged when he recorded the video.

Looks good, it really does look like that the video was lagging at the same time to the beat of the music XD

I read on another forum that the map plays fine with out the HRP or Polymer, so it should be quite playable.

Voice acting for a soon to be released mod. Which one? You'll see!
Also another Duke Nukem animated film is in the works. More on that later.
And while I've been down with the flu, I just did a little video for laughs about Duke taking over the management of the cinema and setting the rules, Duke style! (from DanM's Tribute To Action ll) It kept me from going nuts just laying in bed. This is just a little part of it. I'm thinking of maybe re-doing that and the rest of it sometime.

I like your impressions, but you seriously need a proper microphone.

Thanks, and yea, a proper mic would make a difference. I am using a Shure SM58. Not to make excuses, but I was still stuffed up with the flu and usually I don't record within Movie Maker. The 'narration' feature records straight into a track which I didn't bother to edit or EQ. Completely done on the fly.

Weird, Shure SM58 should provide a far more clearer sound, it kinda sounds like the ones in the video are 11kHz.

You can hear the flu in your voice, the Duke voice isn't bad. I think it needs to have more attitude. At the moment it sounds too much like a film commentary, not like you are going in there and laying the smack down.

You can run the file through something like Audigy, which is free and bump up the audio 'res'.

Yes the map is fully playable without HRP, even with it (on machines with a regular grafic card)
The recordin' program was part of the reason cos the map lags, the other problem was Cg-Shader app, causes that bloom and the low frame rate.

Yeah, i've always liked to play open areas on maps...

And the music.................................................its fuckin good though

Thanks for the support guys!

Yea, I'm not sure what the default rate in movie maker is. No choice was givin, but I prefer to record at 44.100Hz

Giveaway of the Day has the PCHand Screen Capture Recorder Suite free today only if you want to try it. If you do download it you need to activate today. I just downloaded it and activated it but have not tested it yet.

FYI: If you do install it just skip installing the Software Informer software that is always included with GOTD software.

Thanks for the tip. A bit skechy on downloading it seeing too many people have had some issues with it.

Ha Ha! Drink it baby!
That girl is featured in "Duke Goes Out", a short movie I'm working on where Duke has some free time and she treats Duke as a one night stand. But it don't bother Duke in the least cuz he's got plenty of cash to burn at the strip club!
Coming soon to a YouTube near you.

I played around with it and I could record video just fine but no in game audio. I think the problem might be because I do not have a dedicated sound card like they show in the help section. Or it could be something else. It's too bad since I had no decrease in frame rate that I could tell.
