[RELEASE] Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown TC - v1.0
#1 Posted 01 March 2018 - 09:09 AM
Download v1.0.3
- Mirror 1 (318 MB)
- Mirror 2 (318 MB)
If you have previously downloaded any earlier version, then use this patch:
- Mirror 1 (2 kB)
- Mirror 2 (2 kB)
Most assets were ripped by Nukey. Hendricks266 helped a lot too. Additional credits: Daedolon, Oasiz and TerminX. Special thanks to Joshua and MusicallyInspired.
I will work on a patch with Mark 'TDK' Knight remixes, and a version compatible with DOS so you can play on low-key multiplayer ports.
Installation:
If the Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition game data is not found, then drop duke3d.grp in the same directory as eduke32.exe. This is important.
Tips:
Change the default key for placing a laser tripbomb to "B" (tripBomb).
Notes:
The maps, art, sounds, music, movies and CON files were ripped from the CD-ROM.
The original maps have the data carried by CYCLER, GPSPEED and mirrors pre-loaded in the memory, and the maps were modified to work with the vanilla game. Warning: There's a problem in this method as the sprite coordinates don't always match their parent sectors, thus if you re-save the maps in Mapster32 their sectors are changed.
The game.con file was decompiled from the SLUS_003.55 file. The useractor definitions were manually added to make it work with the vanilla game, as the actortype[] data don't seem to exist in this version.

I'm never played the Prug'n'Pray maps nor TM at all and I was holding up for this TC.
... although, I'm currently stuck in the first map looking for hidden switches

Stuck in Nightmare Zone.
Such memories.

-is there supposed to be 'pink' visible around that sign?
btw, never played this game before or other tc's based on it, so it should be interesting.
Looks pretty good so far. (from an outside looking in point of view)

Yep, that's in the original.

It happens. BTW, are the keycards showing up correctly? You need duke3d.grp or else palettes will not work.

I've collected the blue and yellow key so far and they look like 'normal' colored keys from the original duke3d game.
I didn't drop my duke3d.grp file into the game directory, so eduke32 probably sought it out.

Sorry. Never played the original, so I have no basis of comparison. I'll try to keep my ignorant questions to a minimum.

Yes, WAV files are badly compressed, but XA files are better and they sound cleaner in mpv. Resampling issue in EDuke32?

via keyboard?
mine worked fine.
might have to rebind your keys. sometimes that fixes it.

i tried that, and it still doesn't let me switch inventory items. i can see the items i got, but i can't switch to them it seems

I can definitely scroll through and select items in my inventory via keyboard.
Not a guru by any means, so my only suggestion would be to delete your eduke32.cfg & settings.cfg files and start a new game. See if the default bound keys work.
If they do, load your last save & see if they still work.
If they still don't, I don't know what to do.

Patch
thanks Fox. it seems to work nicely now i'm looking forward to being able to play this now
EDIT: when Duke picks up something in episode 4. he seems to say "heh heh heh. what a mess" a lot. is that normal in the original game, or is that some kinda bug?

Then the game use a "fallback" system to replace missing sounds.
