How can I activate duke plus menu in eternity? it says: duke plus menu disabled

Well then obviously you can't access the dukeplus menu.

DNE is probably designed with certain features of dukeplus in mind. If you change any of the features, you're changing the way the game was meant to be played, whether it's gameplay or visually related.
In extreme cases, it might not even be possible to finish a level if you toggle some features.

Open the console and type

setvar nomenu 0

That should enable the menu, although there will still be certain menu options that are locked.

I think you can override that in the console with

setvar holodukebot 1

Why did DanM lock the entire menu anyway? I thought DukePlus had the option to lock only specific features, allowing players to customize other options to their preference?

IIRC we both decided that a complete menu lock was best, since the levels are intended for specific gameplay and graphics options, and there is a lot of stuff in the menu that could radically change the experience. There are more features in the menu than can be easily locked individually.

So I finally got around to play this.

I have to say, it kicked ass! It's like the DNF we all wanted to get.

The first 2 maps were a bit confusing in terms of layout, at the end of the first map I even had to cheat (DNSHOWMAP) to know where to go as I had the yellow keycard and had no idea where to use it (I went through the entire level twice without finding the lock). I ended up jumping around the firetruck blocking the path in the tunnel to get past it and I don't even believe that's how I was supposed to get there!
Another place where I couldn't figure out what to do was the end boss: he seemed invicible and I tried pushing every corner of the machine to see if it could do anything but with no chance....

Anyway things got much better starting stage 3. Level layout was getting more professional. The bike ride was great, and the construction site was TOTALLY pro in terms of level design, layout and progression. With my new computer I was playing some Metro2033 and Hard Reset and damn, something like the construction site in terms of level design is much better than those. Nowadays FPS games are just straightforward corridor shooters, even those which pretend to have "retro gameplay" like Hard Reset...

The only issue I had with the later stages was during the bridge puzzle, you're asked to backtrack to get a wrench (yeah because Duke is a pussy with no strength in his bare hands... anyway) and while there is one lying around in the same corridor you need to use it, you have to backtrack to get another one earlier than that. Now leaving that wrench on the ground there was an amateurish mistake if you ask me and is the kind of "typical video game logic shit" that ruins immersion.

The trophy and rescue system were enjoyable, but again, much better in the later stages. The rescueing was a bit tedious in the first 2 maps especially considering the dumb girls AI.

My other grip is that, despite my new computer (quadcore 3,2ghz, nvidiagtx660 2gb, 8gb ddr5 ram) and despite playing with graphics set to lowest, it still lagged at times! Overall it was still playable, but lagged with big explosions or during really big fights. Also there were still quite a few glitches here and there, too many to list even.

Anyway lot's of complaining, the thing is not perfect, but it was damn great. I am however sure it could have been optimized more.

Edit : also I forgot to say, I think the first 2 maps had way too many dukebot guys and cutscenes. They ruined my fun as I had to compete against them to kill stuff. The cutscenes, even though short, felt too long and always ruined the pacing. Also, Duke being given orders by a mere grunt felt stupid. The worst part was when the cutscene and the dukebot worked together to ruin my fun when they both killed the BLord together! Goddamn.
Again, the 2nd half of the mod was much better in every aspect.

Glad you liked it, its a bit clunky and was a bit iffy myself using the non conventional types of puzzles and i know the cutscenes dragged on and the writing was bad, but i kinda got caught up in all the new tech DT was making and loved playing with it, it really has some clever scripting techniques behind it, especially hud animations, interesting to note those arm models in cutscenes are actual in-game models not hud models, i just used clever camera techniques to hide it.

each level seemed to focus on a new play style for advancement, starting with keys and moving to less obvious key items, i did try to make less conventional puzzles approaches marked with spinning nuke symbols to somewhat solve that problem.

heh that AI escort, well it was added as an afterthought the paths arnt to hard to lead them out of and i guess that the challenging aspect about it, working the silly AI but it was a side mission so i wasnt to fussed about them being easy to complete and added further variety.

now the end boss, is not a convential boss, more like a quake 1 boss you basically run around trying to activate the teleporter to zap the emperor off the planet.

yeah its not perfect, i learned alot basically i like to look at it like wow damn this is for free? but you would be pissed if you payed for it :D

my end goal was to make the "5th episode" so to say with a 90's view on things, it needed new guns and a monster (the super trooper) and a descent campaign, i think i did pretty well and lived up to those expectations in my eyes.

also if anyone wants to re-write that terrible script they are more than welcome to submit one, iam not a writer and its very half-assed, you can't add new lines just rewrite existing ones.

also added my shadow warrior maps including the original tribute to action and the 50 shells in hell maps to the Shadow Warrior Redux workshop

basically one of the longest lines

"I CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH SUPPLIES BUT YOU CAN NOT STAY HERE"

all located in eternity/dukeplus/dpcons/ DNE.con , all sequences are split up nicely so its not to hard to work out

It has come to my attention that DanM/Stabs decided to hold the files for this hostage in the hopes of soliciting donations. It didn't work, so he deleted them from ModDB.

That's a pretty pathetic thing to do; art is not about how many people toss a couple of bucks your way.

I mirrored them here: http://dukeworld.duk...nt/tc/eternity/

Sad to hear, that ot is gone. I think not many people actually knew there has been asked for donations.
On the other hand I think it is a childhish behavior to delete the downloads from moddb in that case.

I don't know why he has spat the dummy this time...
He does this every year or so, ugh.

There is nothing wrong for asking for a donation if people feel the need to, heck I did that with Duke Theft Auto.
But you should in no way demand donations or hold the game/mod hostage to them.

Looks like you didn't snag a copy of the Eternity 2.0 beta, luckily I did and I'm uploading it to my Dropbox right now, I'll post the link when it's done (I wish Australian upload speeds weren't so shitty)

EDIT: Ah, you had it anyway. Here's the link regardless: https://dl.dropboxus...NE_2.0_BETA.zip

This mod is pretty cool too bad it's still not really polished, and still works horribly on my ATI Radeon. I've been following it since 2010 and I don't see a major improvement considering 5 years have passed.

What do you mean not polished? I think it's been quite refined over all the updates. I haven't played the 2.0 version but I have the impression it's even more polished still. The framerate isn't so much to do with the mod itself as with the polymer renderer. DanM worked quite hard to optimize everything to make it as fast as possible without significantly compromising graphics.

No offense to DanM but it just doesn't feel polished to me. There are multiple errors when starting up, many outdated files, and just the game itself in general.
The worst thing is that it's still practically unplayable with my graphics card.

DanM is not a commercial developer and did a great job for free, we have to thank him and did not express claims.
P.S. On Nvidia carts mod works great. Maybe, better can express claims for manufacturers of ATI Radeon graphics cards?

The guy's only a mapper, not a coder or 3D modeler, so his capacity to polish the mod is restricted to his domain. The coders who worked on the mod aren't all that active these days.
