What are you working on for Duke right now? "Post about whatever Duke related stuff you're doing"

BTW, although it must not be your priority, do you intend to (re)make weapons for the HRP version or will you keep them exactly the same ?

In theory, the thing is almost done. I really, really wanted to release it this year but since it takes Mblackwell the eternity to respond, it looks like we're not going to make it this year. Well, at least you know what's coming in January. Happy new year!

Thanks, I finally did get to play some dukematch on this. Converted the whole thing to SDM, it needs polymost and the extra weapons fit nicely. Great DM mod.

Did Mblackwell agree to be a co-creator on this project? If not, then it is extremely weak to allow your whole project to come to a screeching halt because someone isn't replying to a question.

Well, initially I stopped working on it, then he wrote to me and we worked on it again. But yeah, of 7+ month of continued development, about 3 was spent simply waiting for the code. He's busy with Ion Maiden so I understand why it takes him so long. On the other hand, it was painful but I guess it's too late to work with another person, so I guess we'll go all the way.

I made the sub and it's interior, but the rest of the level geometry is by Syndroid.

Probably not, no. I mean, I never asked them, but I'm assuming not. I've never had anything to do with that project, but It isn't something I'd do anyway, but thanks for asking.

A tricky garage door.
A garage door that works almost like a real one!

Can't explain how it works, though - download the example map and see for yourself. There's a lot of limits, for example you can't keep it in the middle of the room, it has to be in the corner so you could build a door mechanism inside the wall nearby.
#8657 Posted 18 January 2019 - 12:42 PM
Mine all the 2 ceiling segment becomes garage door texture and when closed (metal frame like in pic)
So mine uses code and duke effects hybrid (my door can actually crush you if you stand underneath it when closing)
Custom effectors too
Bright green, segment 1 (pal 6)
Dark green segment 2 (pal 8) like 6, they use "setsector[THISACTOR].ceilingypanning xxx" combined with vars for diff movements.
Black one controls texture change in small sector (pal 4)
brown one controls the timer and sounds (pal 7)
SE on ceiling lowers ceiling a bit while the effector with Pal 4 changes texture with "setsector[THISACTOR].ceilingpicnum xxxxx"
uses the slide door effect to stretch while the ceilingpanning calibrates with it
while the white garage door one in your pic you shown,
2nd ceiling segment becomes bricky ceiling while 1st one stays garage door texture.
here when is (in mapster mode) , is opened in mapster mode cus it uses the SE32 angle down

PS
I can add more segments to make it "rounder" but would requires more coding, more sectors etc

I don't know what to do right now. Everything what I can possibly do on my TC is over, from art to levels to everything else. But it looks like Mblackwell just stopped checking his email, forum pm box and even steam messenger since the end of 2018, yet he's making new posts here constantly. I'm just exhausted of this waiting, because we could release it about 2 months before. Besides, there's other person who invested a considerable time and enegry into the project (please don't reveal yourself man

Yes, I'm whining.

I'm sure he wants to get back to things when he has time but right now he doesn't. If you have more questions about this then take it to PM. But for now, please stop with the guilt tripping.

I'm sure you know it already and maybe you're like that too but some people just work busy jobs and have a packed lifestyle already in addition to that for an infinity of reasons, when I was younger I probably wouldn't have understood people not making time even just to reply to messages either, now as an adult (especially as a freelancer in my field) I understand it a lot more. The older you get the more responsibilities and some are just too crucial not to prioritize over a hobby that's not monetized and practically useful, really. I know you don't mean any harm, just saying that not replying to messages (or postponing that forever till you finally find a serious moment to spare and devote to it) is not as uncommon, weird or personally offensive as you might think. I wish you good luck for the rest of your project, don't succumb to the pressure like you've done with maps before. I know it's tempting to get stuff out of the way but you can control that and maybe work on something else in the meantime instead.

You've been down this road before.
Stop posting your dealings with other people in public. It makes you look bad, no matter what the circumstances are.
It leaves a bad impression and nobody will want to work with you.
If someone trustworthy said they would help you when they could, why are you making assumptions about their life and workload?
- learn to compartmentalize your impatience and shelve it for an indefinite period of time.
Some advice: Apologize, whether you think you did anything wrong, or not, and humble yourself a bit. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll still be willing to help you with your project. When they have the time and motivation to do so.

You and oasiz try very hard to picture me in a bad light, but it's just not like it. I waited very patiently for like 9+ months for updates. I never said anything bad about him (or to him), I always thanked him for everything he's done. What happened is that he stopped responding to me for over a month, after I send multiple messages saying that I've done all I can on my part. I have never been so patient as with this project, but everything has a limit. What I don't like is that he don't even bothered to write a letter saying that he's busier than usual, and he can't help me for quite a while.

So you publicly call him out, which is a passive-aggressive ploy to make him look bad. Then you continue to justify yourself for calling him out.
Hope you don't expect him to help you again.
Nobody else will want to work with you now either, because if they don't jump when you crack your whip, you'll publicly humiliate them too.
This is how you're presenting yourself.

After trying to reach to him in every way possible, this is the last thing that I could do so he'll finally notice. At least, that's what I was thinking at the moment...
I was extemely patient with all of it. I waited and waited and waited. Almost a year of waiting is just way too long for something like that. When the project is all but completed, and you need to wait like another 6 months, for something that's just weeks before release...you can't help but loose patience.
I know that it's all just unfortunate circumstances. I apologise If I appear as rude and impatient, I don't really want to offend anybody. I just want to finally release this thing.

He's not your employee to demand time and effort from. People come and go as their lives take them. If you want to talk to them, PM them. Don't throw a fit in a public thread.
Much worse shit happens all the time where people evaporate into the ether and you never hear from them again. Pretty much every mod I've worked on has been ghosted by a member of the team, sometimes the organiser. There is nothing you can do as you have no hold against them.

You probably could have figured out con coding and done it yourself in that amount of time.
Just so you see the other person's point of view.
edit: I edited out the rest of my post because it was unhelpful to the situation
