Anybody ever read the very old Dank and Scud web comics?
It can still be found here
I remember reading it way back in 96-97. I was only about 7 or 8 but I still remember this short series vividly and its cliffhanger.

Another great comic web series was Planet of the Imps which had a much longer time span but still died off after a cliffhanger.

That's a mirror of the old Dank and Scud site which is missing the last episode, issue 6, their venture into the Half-Life universe. The later Dank and Scud site can be found here, and more helpfully, a working mirror of issue 6 can be found here.

All great stuff, but sadly, while we still have the actual comics archived, it seems quite a bit of the extra content has vanished to time: the PDF versions, the original Flash comics, and the storyboards. At least we can see what the Flash comics were like through the Saturn port Easter egg, but it's a shame the high quality PDF files were lost.

Isn't that the comic that featured HL1 assets before the game came out?

Yes, Michael Houston created issue 6 using an early to mid-1998 build of Half-Life. Since we can see an obvious evolution in the Gordon model and the Sector B canals map (an area that was completely cut, incidentally) on this page, we can surmise he was given access to at least two different builds over the course of the comic's creation.

Also, I just realized that the issue 6 mirror I linked above is actually missing a panel or two. Although not presented in the same format, we archived the full comic at this article.

If it is true I wonder what direction they will head in i.e. which Quake game will it follow? Or maybe they'll take multiple elements from the series and sprinkle in some new ones and create something different again. Whatever way it goes I would think that a strong MP component would be essential, otherwise there will be outrage for sure.

I highly doubt Quake will be at this year's E3.
Bethesda has enough games to try to show off, announcing a game likely 3+ years off won't be needed.
Happy to be proved otherwise

It depends on if it is done internally at id or not. If it is internally at id it dependens on if they are back at having two internal teams or not.

If it is external or at a different id team than Doom then it may have been in development for years already.

I guess this is supposed to replace Doom multiplayer? I'd like to see gameplay footage, I'll reserve judgement until then.

First, they made Halo out of DOOM multiplayer, now they will do the same with Quake :)

What disappointed me the most is that they ran out of ideas to put new nails in the logo.

Awww man - such disappointment. I wanted Doom, but with lovecraftian monsters and huge gothic rockpiles. I'd have been happy with another Strogg adventure.

But this? What a shame.

It's all part of the greater plan! The people want Quake so lets half-ass it and when people throw it back at us we can put the IP back on ice because clearly people aren't interested in a new Quake title these days. :)

You don't force your game into e-sports. Instead, e-sport chooses you.

And I don't know if e-sport is still interested in arena FPS... This isn't 1999 anymore.

Ugh, fuck. And here I was expecting a real Quake 2, instead I get a sad attempt at merging Quake 3 with Overwatch.
I'm sick and tired of the "Quake is a multiplayer series" attitude.

Wait, so the next big quake game is going to be essentially multiplayer-only? Sounds like all the odd-numbered games are going to be arena FPS (neglecting Q1 of course) Posted Image

Still, you think they'd have learned their lesson from all the focus put into Doom's multiplayer only for that to be a massive fail.

By the time they learned that, it was way too late to change anything.n
I was imagining how a next-gen Shambler would be to play against. :'(

Don't worry, we'll fight the Strogg again in Quake VI: Return of the Strogg.

Still, does no one in the AAA industry realize that there are MANY multiplayer FPS games out there, which continue to be pumped out, but a massive lack of long, consistently high quality singleplayer FPS campaigns? Do we need to spell it out for them?

I am not really interested in a multiplayer only Quake. I would absolutely LOVE a sequel/remake/reboot set in the Quake 1 universe. I would also be perfectly fine with another Strogg based game but a new arena multiplayer game? That is not something I have been looking forward to to be frank.

Edit:

Now I watched the reveal trailer...it doesn't exactly scream Quake.

I just read up on Saber Interactive's list of games made and... https://en.wikipedia...ber_Interactive

"Halo: The Master Chief Collection"

Just like Certain Affinity with DOOM, I have no hope for this Quake Multiplayer

Ah well hopefully if when it flops then they'll put to bed the idea of multiplayer FPS forever and focus on excellent singleplayer campaigns going forward. So maybe it's a good thing in that respect.
