Duke3D HRP: new/updated art assets thread  "Post and discuss new or updated textures/models for the HRP here"

I think that the focus on making highres replacament for all tiles was a bad decision. Emphasis has been put in quantity instead of quality, as a result several textures or models don't serve the purpose of enhancing the game. Besides everything has been made by independent users, so the surfaces don't fit together (i.e. each alien texture with it's own tone of green). The inclusion of new engine features such as Polymer half-way doesn't help.

Not sure if there is any pratical difference in the Small Medkit (perhaps the color), but the Portable Medkit has some discrepancies, especially the big red cross.

The small is the same.

I already have a duke 64 version of the portable medkit, I will upload a version of it for you when I re-make it.. as I prefer it to the original.

Do not forget that the Portable Medkit is also used as a texture in some levels.

I checked and Warp Factor is the only level where it is (visibly) used as a wall. But there is the problem that some mod may display it on the screen, so it would be necessary to have a rendered sprite...

Since we're aiming for a full HRP release anyway, I have decided to run PNGOUT over it's current incarnation. Some 25MiB can be saved. I've verified that both old and new PNGs convert to binary identical TGAs. Be prepared for a rather big svn update download soon. But I'll wait for the updates announced by Steveeeie and Tea Monster, so that they can be added in before that.

Is it a clone of PngOptimizer?

If the powers that be decide this is good enough, go ahead and include it in the next HRP release. If it's not up to snuff, anyone else can use it for their projects. The defs are included in the zip file. The new mic is on the right.

That model is 100 times better mark, but the texturing still needs some work. The metal doesn't look metallic.

As a former theater geek, I figure I ought to offer a couple crits on the mic stand:

1. I haven't seen many mics where the grill is red, the original mic has a foam cover that that is often used to dampen harsh sounds and prevent spit from getting to the mic element.
Attached Image: images.jpg

2. Maybe it's the angle, but the mic clip looks a little unnatural, lacks a pivot point.
Attached Image: DV020_Jpg_Jumbo_276010.jpg

3. smart thinking on the antenna! (most wireless mics these days integrate the antenna in the body of the mic per the example above, but it's a good choice to have a visible antenna)

4. can't say much about the stand other than a chrome look or polished black would be preferable.

I don't think it is as good as the other models that have been created recently, and seems to not match real-life microphones. It should also have a wire, even if in the original sprite the wire disappear in mid-air.

These pictures somewhat matches the sprites and could be used as reference:

Could people please make sure the colours match the colours in the 8bit sprites, especially Reds and Greens.
Even if you just use the eyedropper tool in photoshop, it's not that hard people.

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be a wireless microphone

Agreed on closely matching colors, or highpal won't kick in properly.

I've finished the textures on Duke (he has a nuke buckle now).

The Cycloid is still getting a bit of work, but should be done in a week or so.

I'd prefer the antenna solution - and a foam cover.

Nice. No rushing. I'm more in favour of a milestone release rather than a deadline.

So using the read key card for example looks bad because of the pal 0 blue card and not due to non-optimized highpals?

I made a quick fix to the mic. I'm moving on to some other mapping stuff so hopefully more people approve of this one. If so, I'll upload it here again. I added the swivel and screws along with the foam screen which is a little closer to original color.

Spoiler

Took 3 hours to get this far. I'm gonna have a lot of fun with the details... when I get around to doing so.
Edit:
I did put one detail on that was left out on the HRP model. Take a guess:

Also, I may have a try at making the Lameduke handle as well. The biggest problem I have is that there is nothing that shows how the other side of the gun was designed. That's something only Chuck would know.

Im pretty sure the DNF RPG has the lame duke handle on the other side. I think the Duke 3D RPG would be the same.

I think it should be just like it is, the Lameduke gun with a modified grip on the left.

I was thinking of having it a symmetrical weapon with the final handle on the left and the Lameduke handle (with firing button, not a trigger) on the right. I think it would be very uncomfortable to hold, though.

I found a palm tree model and its author says:

"You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission."

Can someone put it in the game and upload the md3 model with textures to see how it would be? I tried but I have problems with transparency:

Spoiler

The model is named: palm_straight
Download

Nice, but I thought the HRP was supposed to be all original art?
