Ok, but the current palm tree isn't like the original

By the by, the hand paper dispenser is like this, with down part like the third image

I don't think so. A small part of the HRP is based upon external stuff already:

hrp_readme.txt said:

Some textures in this pack are based on source textures copyrighted by
CGTextures.com. Permission to use and distribute these specific textures has
been granted to the author(s) of this texture pack. Textures downloaded from
CGTextures.com are copyrighted and may NOT be redistributed or sold. For
more information and the full license, please visit http://www.cgtextures.com.

This disclaimer applies to the following textures:
- highres\sprites\props: 585
- highres\sprites\signs: 4420, 4949, 4955
- highres\textures: 1120
Therefore, external models and textures which match the original ART tiles very well can be used in the HRP IMHO, if their respective licenses permit that kind of use.

However, that palm tree model requires more work than just converting to MD3, because the Duke3D palm tree consists of two parts/models which I have separated in this screen shot:

It looks alright but it's the wrong type of palm, looks like it belongs on an island.

It should look more along the lines of these.

Yeah the trunk should have fairly straight sides. If you look at the original sprite, the sides are completely straight (vertical), and I'd bet good money that mappers have used the sprite for other purposes than as tree trunks, which would end up looking ugly with a tapered trunk.
So straight sides would be awesome.

As I said, there is no need to hurry. We are not doing this for money, folks. xD If you are still working on new content, just take your time to finish everything. The more we have, the better. But it's great that the deadline seems to motivate people in general. We should do that more often!

About models, a reminder for those making models for already existing ones:
Please try to give your new models the same orientations as the old models (even if the orientation of the old ones are wrong, but all those should be gone from HRP by now, anyway), or otherwise this might have consequences for existing maphacks.

I'll check around on my drives and see if I still have the list of HRP tiles with the problem. I know 757 and 742 have the problem.
At least I found your old post which adds 349 and 1189 to the list.

Btw., any news about the microphone model?

IIRC no one else but you commented on the latest version so I assumed it to mean no one else thought it was worthy. I still have it in my personal copies of the game. If you want it I'll post it here.

For everyone to compare:

Turn it around by 180 degrees and I'll add it to the repo if no one opposes within a week.

Or get another rep point from me by making the nice foam texture somewhat bigger because it's hard to spot ingame. :)

I don't like the rectangle nature of the red covering. It really should be an old-fashioned rounded covering. The top of a torpedo shape kinda. If you can get it to look soft and fluffy, and thus very much not a reflecting sheen on it would be perfect.

The first mic I offered had a rounded head and people said to re-make it like the original cylindrical, so I did.

What's currently pending? Trying to get an overview since the end of July is approaching. As I have pointed out earlier, July 31 doesn't have to be the final deadline if you need more time for some stuff.

Duke is done with a new bandolier skin and fixed his hairline. - Done
The cycloid has new bones to control the shoulders so they don't deform as much as he walks. - Just needs exporting and testing.
Hand dryer model - High poly is done. Don't know if I'll have time to bake it down with everything else on.

But the original is rounded.

This is what the original looks like:

I disagree. But we are talking about a very pixelated image. Still, it resembles cylindrical more than rounded to me.

Do you see the bright red section up above? Now notice the direction of the spotlight; and the gradual darkening as it moves below; this is an indication of a rounded head; if it were square it would go fully darker almost instantly. You can even see the same shadow pattern in the pictures above.

Yeah, but a cylindrical mic is usually associated with ribbon, condenser, and boom mics, which I highly doubt anyone would use in the public situations that mic is in. Ribbons are too fragile to be used outside of a climate controlled studio, condensers are only slightly fragile and would only be taken out if a big group needed to be recorded - in which case there would be more than one anyway, and a boom mic is usually raised a few yards high. It makes the most sense to model the microphone after the most popular vocal mic in public situations, which would be the Shure SM58 - obviously with a red pop filter covering it.

Yeah, I change my vote. I wouldn't ask to change it, though, if you're sick of working on it.

Tell you what. I'll forget the mic for now. I assumed what I did was good enough for such a minor item. I'm busy with other stuff so I'll re-make the mic from scratch at a later date. No hard feelings from me. :)

And feel free to use in your projects either of the 2 versions already posted here.

My interpretation of the pixelated ART is definitely a cylindrical/conical covering.

If you rotate it into the correct angle I'll gladly add the version of your choice to my Z-Pack at least.

Tea Monster's stuff seems almost done. When Steveeeie asked not to upload his latest med items I had already added the 30+ health bottle since I couldn't imagine what to improve. In the meantime I have somewhat changed my mind about his current first aid kit. Despite the backside issue I brought up myself I now tend to add it to the repo since it has become my personal favourite among Steveeeie's contributions so far (love the belts). What do you think?
My plan was to add the big bunch of PNGOUT optimizations after Steveeeie's / Tea Monster's stuff, and then let the repo downloaders beta-test them for a week or so before the official HRP get published. Since I didn't encounter any issues with my local copy over the last weeks I think I'll put it up today or tomorrow.

EDIT:By using hrp_extract.sh we could save some more MiB download size. (Mostly the currently unused widescreen stuff.)

Alas, the part of the model visible in first-person is finished. The screws may need some size-tweaking though...
