WG Realms 2 Episode 1 Released!

I've made some progress on identifying the midis:

anxity - Castlevania 3, "Anxiety" (Remixed by Jay Reichard)
This track is not used in Episode 1.

bosfight - Guilty Gear XX, "In the Arms of Death" (midi by solis)

boss3 - SonicA3_-_Boss.mid
I only have the file name and I can't find it on VGMusic.com, but it's there somewhere. A boss theme from some Sonic game obviously.

c3 - Castlevania 3, "Encounter" (no artist listed)

cave - James Bond Golden Eye, "Caverns" (midi by King Meteor)

endlevel - Perfect Dark, "Pelagic II X" (midi by Yves Spierts)

gameover - Xcom (?)

lost - Age of empires 1

silent - None

soeboss2 - ?

title - Xcom (?)

warlord - Unreal

wgx1 - Age of empires 1

wgx2 - doom (?)

wgx3 - Unreal tournament

wgx4 - ?
wgx5 - ?
wgx6 - doom
wgx7 - ?
WG found all of these and I don't know where they came from. They are not used in episode 1.

victory - ?

People who complain about that kind of stuff don't seem to comprehend how incredibly hard it is to find people who can do those jobs, do them well, do them on time, AND do it for free.

EDIT: Also the title doesn't come from X-com; not from the first two in anycase and I don't think the later ones used midi.

I've a request : please make tha weather effects optional (or insert a "toggle" button for them). The snow on "Hell Freezes Over" is just killing my FPS :)

It's fine for most people and I'm not going to add a menu any time soon.

Open the console and type: setvar raining 0

That will stop the weather completely.

As an alternative, you could try this:

setvar raining -2
setvar rainradius 12288

There will still be some snow, but not nearly as much.

im sure that the file wgx7 is from doom2.

So i played this till the end of the second map ( i basically dont have free time anymore... thats all i could play haha) and im really enjoying this mod. Btw as someone already posted, theres some texture bugs that could be easily fixed, by saying bugs i mean textures placed in wrong places, and some areas are more detailed that others that it feels strange, like the map overall are really beautiful and clean, but some areas are just simple sectors with no detail at all, like the elevator in the end of the map ( the one with a chest that cost you a lot of coins to open). Also, while exploring the map, i usually try to do "stupid things", like discovering warps and etc, and i found access to some strange places, that i think you guys should block so no one can go in these. Also i did something funny in the very start of the game, you know in the start where you need to use the POW to remove the rocks from your way, i just found another way: jumping in that friendly mage and then jumping over the rocks haha.

I already played it enough! Actually I do want to play it again though with the fixes.

EDIT: Game over also isn't from X-com - unless the two you've used are 3rd party remixes or something :)

EDIT2: Also OGG music would seriously improve the atmosphere. I know it adds alot to filesize (unless you shrink it's quality by a bit) but midi tracks grow old much quicker than a decent ogg track.

There's going to be an OGG pack. But original OGG versions of (most of?) the midis don't exist (using a program to convert doesn't count) and it will take some work to find suitable OGGs. It will definitely be a separate download, at least until the absolute FINAL version of WGR2 with all three episodes is released.

wgx4 = Decent
wgx5 = Push it by Garbage. Not used in episode1
wgx6 = doom Not used in episode1
wgx7 = doom or doom2 Not used in episode1

I got GAMEOVER from a horror middi website.

@ Mikko, if the only way you can play is with the old eduke32, try to only save from the menu, Dan added a fix for that, Im not sure if he removed the fix though, he couldn't add one for the quicksave, and that crash will only occur if you quicksave while a portal is active, and they only activate when they are in view.
Other than that, as DT said you wont be able to proceed back to the HUB when the game is completed. hopefully that's the only other bug.

I woke up at night and decided to check out these forums as I didn't do that for a few days and wow, there's a WGR2 relase! Just played the first level, it's pretty awesome, there's a good mix of fighting and exploring. The bossfight was pretty challenging on Come Get Some difficulty, I died a plenty of times, but finally I beat it. Now I'm going sleep again and will check out the next level then. Good work!

Wish I can play but since i'm an old school joystick user, there's a problem.
The error started way back in a Eduke32 update. I was able to work around that so I didn't report it.
And that was just the axis X (turning) and Y (moving Foward/Back) should always be in that order. The Z axis is an optonal 3rd. For some reason the Z is now before the Y and the X is now the 3rd axis. That confuses the controller configuration and always needs re-configuring.

Hmm.., it's a little annoying when every time the new version released and I downloaded it and extracted it then I accidentally to overwrited my old wgr2.cfg... damn, I must setup my configuration again... ;)

EDIT on Nov 13 2009, 06:51 PM(GMT+8) : BTW, I found some stat screen bugs... it doesn't matter about game play but it still weird.
(I play with 1.0RC3 and restart the game, not load any savegame.


1.I get 100% kills in level 1 (skill 3) on EDuke32's stat but WGR2 displays 172/160. And it still display white color, shouldn't it displays gold(?) color because I get 107.5% kills. :)

2. I opened all soul door but the WGR2 stat said I still missed 1, but those soul in that level has been become to money when I found them, so I should opened all soul door. I don't know why it still said 3/4. (I uploaded my savegame on attachment.)

Froze in the 2nd level for me, after entering hell and exploring the caves you come across a pillar with a cyber demon on top and a chest, opening the chest unleashes more monsters... I jumped on top of the chest.

Did you noticed? The WGR2 chaingun haves a concept very similar to the Battlelord chaingun of vanilla duke, The secondary fire trow missiles instead of granades however.

1) I don't like the sound of water when treading it.

2) some of the jump sounds sound out of place/annoying.

3) 1st level, area after the mini-boss that axon heals you at if you get too injured. The torches are placed rather haphazardly >.> kinda annoying.

Speaking of that stats display at the end of a level - it really needs to show how much time you've taken! Most of the levels feel really huge, but I didn't pay attention to the time while playing so I'll never know if they are actually huge and not just conceptually..

The EDuke32 stat timer still works, but it still running when stat display appears.

I made it to the ice level and so far I've liked most of the changes you've made since the last beta. For example, the levels have been streamlined a bit, so there's less wandering around. All it took was a few minor changes (making one of the chests near the vortex free in the first map, blocking the player's exit from the underground boss area in level 2 until he's picked up the cells etc.).

Finally my playthrough is complete. But it will take at least the whole night to upload. Overall there are 13 parts. It may be worth seeing the final boss die in about 20 seconds.

Yep, my playthrough shows the very first released version. When I started it there were no updates but I think it doesn't matter really. Probably some scenes like for example when I have bleeding at 95 and I survive are not possible now :)
