Beautiful! The architecture looks great! Are you using TROR for the building itself as well?

I'm not worried about performance on my machine. Polymer always runs fantastic for me on everything I've played so far.

The building is made of 3 layers of TROR, to allow for the windows above the round window, as well as the roof.
Performance here won't be great, but I bet it won't be bad either :)

I actually took me a while to notice because we don't have April's fools in my country... I didn't even realize it was April 1 :) Now, the new Fusion episode is becoming my TROR test ground

And for some weird stuff, my work computer (i5, 2GB RAM, Geforce 310, XP) runs this area better than my home computer (i7, 8GB RAM, ATI 5850, Vista64).Do we have access to console commands from CON code? I want to bind a key to a code that would switch between different r_maxlightpasses values (for full quality this map area needs up to 18 light passes) to allow for different lighting quality levels, so people on slower rigs can improve performance.

That looks beautiful. But, by the things I´m reading, it seems you´re almost satisfied by the 12fps your top notch computer is spitting? Anything running at 12fps in a Core i7 with 8gb and such videocard has a terribly serious optimization problem. I know it must be mostly because Polymer´s alpha stage. But I´d reconsider adding more work until that gets a solution. An average duke user´s computer will surely run it twice slower, or worse.

I wouldn't put the blame totally on polymer. Ati is shit always has been and always will be. Ati is good for one thing and that is keeping Nvidia honest with their prices so they don't price gouge. I never did like that company on a hardware or software level even back when they were Canadian owned and operated. I'm sure AMD regrets purchasing ATI as that was probably a move that almost bankrupted them and the only reason why they are as popular as they are is because its a cheap bang for your buck much like the AMD line up. And while it may seems like a reasonable purchase at the time, in the end you still get screwed with flaky hardware and terrible software drivers.

Gambini - I didn't mean to minus a reputation point from you. Since for some reason I can't undo that I will just find another spot on the forums to give you your point back sorry man my hand is quicker than the eye. Your point has been restored.

It's not that I'm satifstied by those 12fps (which, by the way, are a minimum, the average is much higher and I've played non-polymer maps where framerate is even lower on this high end machine), it's that a slower machine with a NVidia card runs at a better framerate. A machine with a crappy GeForce 310! So, while mine is a high end machine, it's not the best machine to run Polymer with. Plus, we are talking about 18 light passes for max quality. That can be scaled for slower machines while still looking neat...

Yeah, the inspiration came from there...

Hmmm, it seems like people don't like my media I've postet lately :):P
Feels like doing a lot of work for nothing.
I guess I shouldn't waste to much time for Duke 3D anymore.
Now, I know why I've left this communtiy 2 years ago.

Your doing fine, modding on games shouldn't be about getting attention it should be something you enjoy. So if you enjoy it why stop?

ReaperMan is right, do this for yourself. If other people like your stuff, then that is just a sweet bonus.
But i do like your stuff, and i am sure other people do. But that is not an UFO, that is a pie :)

Damn it!
It's an UFO, austrian model!!!

Of course I like modding for Duke 3D, but sometimes I wish to get that bonus :)

What makes you think people don't like your media? I'd even given you a rep point (for what it's worth).
Although people have more anticipation for the map itself than for screenshots and short videos. I remember posting a trailer for my WIP WGrealms2 map(s) and I don't think I received a single comment about it. But I'm still working on it.

Oh it's an austrian UFO. Here in denmark the UFO's look like potatoes.

Thanks for the point :)

BTW, now it should be clear that it's an UFO that kidnaps people.

Yeah sometimes the most cared work´s media will be completely overlooked. But it is still worth to keep working on it.

That's one of the downsides to the rep system. People will toss a point at you because they like what you produce, but that's where it ends in some cases. You get points, but not alot of feedback, so you're kinda left not knowing what it was that was liked or disliked. Then that becomes the habit, and when you receive no points in addition to the usual lack of feedback, you're left wondering what's wrong.

Your UFO is cool looking, but to me it looks more like the top of an alien hive (like an anthill), than a UFO. Other than the perimeter lights, the rest seems to be missing something in the texturing or structure that says "hi-tech" . That's the perception I get from the screen shots, it may look more "ufo" in the actual game.

I'm currently making a secret level.. I've always wanted to make really strange-ass map, full of stupid and crazy things.

Just made this into that map: http://petteri.muumi...o.fi/f/pmw8.jpg

Some close-up pic: http://kk4.fi/u/1333...uke0021.tga.jpg

ps.

While taking a screenshots, I noticed something. When I'm running game as, example 800x600 windowed, aspect ratios are fine, game looks good. But when I take 16:9 or 16:10 ratio, everything is streched.
I ran eduke with 1152x864 then with 1920x1080. Take a look, left shots are from small resolution and right side shots are from fullhd -> http://kk4.fi/u/d3d-ar.jpg

This same thing is in 8-, 16- and 32-bit modes. Is this normal thing to happen? I mean, that looks like shit with 1920x1080.

I've had same problem sometimes.
Don't forget to set correct aspect ratio.
1920x1080 is 16:9 while 1152x864 is 4:3.
But I think mapstar can't handle widescreen, so I always use 4:3.
But in eduke, you can set aspect ratio to 16:9.

In renderer settings, set aspect ratio to 1,78. This is 16:9.

Mapster works just fine in widescreen for me. In full 1080p fullscreen or less-than-that windowed. What kind of issues do you have? My only problem is I can't multitask for more than 5 seconds or Mapster crashes.

When I use widescreen resolutions in mapster, it is streched.
Is there a way to manually set aspect ratio in mapster?

My mapster also crashes if I use mapster and eduke at the same time.

Are you running in original 8-bit mode? If so, that doesn't support widescreen as far as I know. Polymost and Polymer should work fine, though.

I always use 32 bit mode.
But I use Dukeplus mapster.bat but this shouldn't be the problem because it still uses original mapster32.
BTW, I don't like to use mapster in fullscreen anyway, because there's also a problem with correct mouse look.
Also, the graphics card always changes screen mode while switching between 3D and 2D mode and that's quite annoying.

I'm a happy camper. For a long time and with many versions, Mapster had been unstable in full screen mode. Me and others just learned to live with mapping in a smaller windowed mode. I tried fullscreen mode again just now and its switches back and forth between 2D and 3D smoothly and no crashes after loading a few maps and at least 20 switches back and forth. ( 1680 x 1050 ) I'm wishing I tried this sooner. It could have been stable for months and I missed it.

Just tried widescreen and now it works fine.
Well, I'm also a camper.

That's starting to look a lot better. How much more do you have to add to your map in terms of area?

I have to reply to this again. This weekend I did some polymer light optimizations and was starting to get frustrated because nothing I did seemed to boost the framerate by much. But when I installed the latest revision of the map on my work computer, oh my god... it's running at 30fps now instead of 17. So ATI is definately to blame here...

I wanted to switch videocards but... no money right now, too bad <_< I might have to install one of my old GeForce 8800GT's at home, as right now I'm using that computer for Duke stuff only ...

The alien ship looks pretty cool, the glow is nice although probably some of its glory is lost if you approach the ship from the side.

Yeah, this is old news but you haven't been around for a while so...

For example, when I still had a dual-core processor, 1 gigs (or was it 2?) of ram and a GeForce 8600GT, the fps I got in Duke Eternity was somewhat playable. However, with my current hexa-core processor, 4 gigs of ram and an ATI HD 6870 there's no way to get a playable framerate.
