Here is a screen of the 1911 I was working on. Bear in mind that this is the high-poly and that it isn't finished.

Looking nice, are you going to keep working on it?

Yeah, I'm going to get it ready. I just rescued the blend off my old hard drive. I'm working on some other stuff at the moment though. I can't even run the HRP on this computer. Its software only.

I used to sneer at Intel Graphics cards. Now I actually hate them.

i've made some new cut and paste designs that are going to be useful at making some cool FXs.
--
i made a more dynamic water FX yesterday. it makes the water bend and fold in diferant derections much like in some of the old n64 games. taking out that flat look for more of a wave look.
i also finesh a more organic ground look. as well as some slope designs.

just thought id share that with you guys... just cuz.

Sounds nice, can you post any pictures or videos of it in work? Or perhaps the effect itself? :o

no problem, with all the parts that are made i'll just make a small map showcasing them. i could package it was the first TMNT map.

Considering trying my hand at modding again, but don't know what. Kind of demoralized with the hardware issues, and I probably couldn't get anyone to help out anyway, but my mind wanders...

What's wrong with simply making a map?

I always become dissatisfied with the textures and abilities of the default game. I get too overzealous and ambitious.

I have a lot on paper now as far as what to do for Duke3D with the HRP and Polymer releases, but since we're so close to the release of Win 7, I may probably wait until Win 7's released so I get that installed before breaking ground on anything.

EDIT: Just for pointing out, one of the mods that may be of interest will be a Wolf 3D HRP/Polymer mod of sorts, bringing back an old classic, especially to tie in with the Wolfenstein game that just released.

haven't been in "duke's business" for ages. At least something more or less finished with normal/height maps except for gloss.

This looks more like a model than a texture. Good work:)

Since I've just picked the 3rd job and I'll be quite busy this year I've decided to upload the fonts that I've made some time ago. I hope that someone will make a good use of them.

Quite correct, Captain... Here's a good "revival project" of my own that I have planned when the time is right.

One such map that I hope to accomplish would be a revival of an old classic "boss fight of the century" so to speak. If you remember the Doom II map, Gotcha. I'm hoping that this will be a good start:

Cool, how are his "tusks" modelled? They should be giving you a real pain with parallax mapping if they are above the surface rather than part of the surface.

ok heres a copy of the water design i made up. if i mess around with this more it make make a cool trobbing ground FX for like, an alian base.
anyways i hope you guys like it? its vary easy to copy and rebuild.

I kind of made this to be used in a doom remake map (pit where the armor is). but i have'nt got'en any news from the guy i was going to work with latey. but for now, i'll share it with you guys.

also sense im giving out some maps. give me a moment and i'll also post the work i did on the TMNT map for everyone.

Unfortunately everything is modelled and the heightmap is generated using absolute ZDepth. The only promissing thing is that the original image is saved in 48bit which gives me much more space for tweaking contrast. The current heightmap is like this:

Just looking at it right now there are a lot of things that is going to limit how deep the effect can be made. You basically want to have smooth gradients everywhere to really push the parallaxing. It will also give you a better looking normal map in most cases.

In short any shape that looks like this _| Should be modeled like this _/ so you get a pixel or two of gradient between the two depth levels. The pipes is easy to fix by lowering them until they are haflway into the surface, can easily be fixed on the heightmap to.

I've been having an on-and-off slump with work on my Voyager mod (I'm at a stage where a lot of the work is repititious copy-and-paste crap), so today I went back to that old BSG map I played with a while back (recreating the battle at Ragnar anchorage), and started overhauling that for shits and giggles. I updated the Ragnar nebula with something almost entirely custom made (base nebula pic, heavily modified to meet my needs, and with a neat surprise thrown in ;) ), gave Galatica some roll via a maphack, added Polymer lighting, and the part I'm most happy with, added some Viper models that fly around. They don't shoot yet, but maybe one day... I leveraged the Firefly code from DukePlus to get the viper's to do their thing, so thanks for that DT ;) ;

I did want to just make a video, but there's just a slight 'issue' with DT's shooters under Polymer that makes the framerate absolutely crawl, but he's looking into that so maybe I'll make a vid one day. Aside from just being pretty pictures, it's actually quite fun to play. Not that you can do much other than fly around and try to avoid getting shot to shit but... fun nonetheless :o

What am I working on?? Something I have been 'itching' to do for a looong time.
-
Duke3 - Hero Worship
-
Basic premise, Duke teams up with characters from the top Action movies from the 80;s and 90's.
Maps loosely built to match the movie locations
Voice clips/sounds from movies.
-
Duke teams up with one at a time to take on a large alien threat.
-
multiple cities, caves, space, aircraft carriers, submarines
-
No holding back, pure duke, loud freaking music, hot babes, lots o' explosions.
and tons of 'borrowed' one liners.
-
More to come, I am building a set of textures, sounds, then a few basic maps before diving head first into what will probably consume my life for several months.
-
Wish me luck!!!

Just so long as it's got John Spartan, that sounds awesome.

But how exactly will he 'team up'? Bot allies that follow you around and spew lines / shoot at stuff? Or will they be ingrained into the level as 'set pieces' that you get to interact with?

Definitely bot allies that follow/shoot/spit out one-liners.
so far I am rough working the following into the game;
John Maclean - Die Hard, John Spartan - Demolition Man, Dirty Harry, Ash/Bruce Campbell
I would like to incorporate a few non-us action stars as well, shooting for 10 levels dedicated to Action Heroes.
and in the ending levels they come back to help Duke finish the game.
-
Still early stages, but progressing better than I expected.

That looks pretty nice, however i still think that Miamax´s waves in his castle map look more impresive.

The map comes with Duke Plus, I'm not sure where else you would find it. Download the mod and you will find "castle.map" inside the dpmaps folder. The waves are in the boss area near the end of the map. The effect works in vanilla Duke, so you don't need DP to see it.

U$ 6 for a 13 years old game is a steal. Whoever is selling it overestimates the commercial part due to all the FREE additions that keep making the game something worth.
