Did you install OpenAL?

Open AL? I don't know. I installed everything from the HR pack. Does it include Open AL?

This may be yet another instance of midi volume getting set to 0 by windows media player. Check your midi volume (in windows, not in the game).

I have the same problem, it seems. Playing out of eduke32 will play music perfectly fine, but I have none otherwise. The .zip for the music pack is in the correct place, and I've also tried swapping in a different music pack to test that as well. No effect.

OpenAL has been installed. I think. The installation was a bit short and vague.

In-game, in the sound options, music is "on" and cannot be turned off. Volume cannot be adjusted either.

Deeperthought... How do I check midi volume? I'd assume it's not 0 since it works in vanilla duke3D but I'll check all the same. I don't really have a problem playing without music but I do miss it.

I'm not on a Windows machine so I might sound a bit off. Try double-clicking the volume control icon in the system tray. If you don't see MIDI output in there you might have to enable it in the menu.

No dice. :x

I'm on Vista 32 (go figure?) if that helps at all. I can't find anything about it on google, etc. and it's not in the volume control panel, either. I did find a few things that said that Vista doesn't recognize .ogg extensions, though. I'm don't know if that's the problem, though, because I'm sure someone else would have ran into it before me.

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed the latest HRP, but when I try to play a game it crashes during the loading screen (i get dropped back to windoze without any error message or anything). This happens despite which episode or difficulty I select (although once I did get 'spaceport' to load, but it also crashed after less than a minute). I have tried playing with all kinds of different settings (resolution, detail, etc), but nothing seems to make any difference.

Hollywood holocaust crashes at around 3-5% loaded
Spaceport crashes at either 5% or somewhere around 20%
Raw Meat crashes around the 5% loaded mark.

I'm using the 1.3d grp file.

I Here's my eduke32.log file:

Does anybody have any Ideas as to what I can do to solve this?

Thanks!

If you're trying to get the digital music pack working MIDI volume has nothing to do with it and won't solve any problems. I don't know what the problem would be, though. Works fine for me. Maybe you have to restart after installing OpenAL?

This here is going to give you problems even if this segmentation fault is not caused by the Intel gpu.

Renderer: Intel 965/963 Graphics Media Accelerator

Does it crash if you change the render mode to classic (8-bit) before starting?

Restarting didn't help, either. ;)

The message log told me it's using the music pack, in case that rules out other problems.

Try not using the music pack. Just use the midi that comes with duke3d.

Tried that as well. I removed the HRP, music pack, and maphacks and just ran my .grp with EDuke32, no midi music either. It's a problem with Eduke32. Xduke will play the music, but I prefer Eduke32 since it's not nearly as buggy.

Thanks for your suggestions so far guys. ;)

Im not sure, but it probably is a problem concerning Vista and Eduke32. Vista sucks.

I don't think so. I installed the newest version of HRP with music pack to XP computer and I still don't hear any music ;)

Moreover, for me and everyone else who uses Vista, the music plays.

Hello,

Today I installed the High Resolution Pack v4.0 (Windows Installer) to play some good old Duke3D again.
Installation was fine but when I am trying to start the game it crashes when I am trying to start the game from the Eduke32 setup screen.
I tried nearly every combination of settings without any success.

Settings:
on-disk texture cache - yes
1024x768x32
Input: Mouse
Duke 3D Atomic Edition 1.5
Fullscreen - off

You have 2 sound devices?

Either disable USB PnP Sound Device or SB X-Fi Audio [B000]

Only 1 sound device should be enabled.

[EDIT]
As I understand the CM108.sys is a driver for C-media headset audio device. There are reports that this driver causes errors/crashes. Thus disable USB PnP Sound Device and see if the crash is fixed. Search the google for more info. At least that's what I did.

The music option isn't, but it cannot be toggled to off. The music volume is grayed out.

Thx to you Mr.Flibbles & supergoofy for your quick help.
I have updated all of my main drivers to their latest versions. I also tried to disable the sound cards but the game was still crashing.
Anyway starting the game via the included dukeplus.bat has solved the problem.

Now I am able to enjoy Duke3D in all full glory. The new models are really amazing. Great work.

Greetings,
masiif

I seem to be having some issues with texture caching when using the dukeplus mod.
I tend to get random generic textures appear on the loading screens at times, and as ive seen some mentioned ive deleted the textures and textures.cache files which seems to fix the problem momentarily again... but then after a few run things seem to get screwy again.... any ideas?

This was an issue with older versions of EDuke32, but I have not had the problem lately and assumed it had been fixed. Make sure you are using the latest Eduke32:

http://wiki.eduke32....e32_current.zip

Then delete your cache files one more time, and see if it still happens. Other than that, I have no ideas.

Since ghost hasn't posted here for 2 days, I'll use the opportunity to post that I experience huge lag at times too. My game lags especially when in open spaces, like the final part of E2M3, where you have to battle several Assault Commanders. It becomes completely unplayable for about 30 seconds. I don't know if this is due to HRP, but I've tried turning off high quality textures and models, and it still lags like crazy, so I assume it's eDuke's way of handling big open spaces

My PC specs are:
- AMD X2 4200
- OEM Geforce 7300LE
- 2gb RAM

I understand my graphics card sucks, but I shouldn't be lagging when I'm playing on Software mode
