Definitely feel better soon by the way TerminX!
Triptych cobbled together the most completed elements of the game as of May 2009 and worked around it to deliver something playable. It was 3D Realms work that Gearbox and Triptych double teamed. I believe it was the Duke Nukem Forever launch panel where they were all talking about Duke Nukem Forever and how Broussard always insisted he was supposed to be more serious and everyones laughing while Broussard just looks miserable.
The definition of 'finished' when it comes to Duke Nukem Forever is extremely loose. The game was never finished, their development plan and what they were working on in May of 2009 will never see the light of day. What was delivered was elements that were most complete with a narrative hastily written around it which is why I'm always salty about the old quotes of Randy saying they saved Duke Nukem Forever and delivered 3D Realms vision. Yeah, I'm sure 3D Realms vision consisted of a half dozen guys in someones living room desperately trying to put together something that could be called a game after throwing away any direction the development had so Scott/George could escape a lawsuit.
I suppose it's in the past now but it goes without saying that Duke Nukem Forever had a large influence from Gearbox - the marketing was in part what themselves and 2K came up with, the cover art, everything that presented Duke as the character he is in that title was up to them and they released a trailer about shit and tits not to mention one of the crappiest cover arts ever. I'll play the optimist here and just hope that lessons were learned from the backlash.
