Vanilla Quake 3 does not have proper widescreen support. You can enter in custom resolutions when r_mode is -1 but the engine was never really built to handle it properly. I suggest using the ioquake3 port as it improves this along with many other things.

The only thing ioquake 3 solves is the FMVs. The widescreen problem still persists.

Unfortunately it has the same problem as DOOM 3 in regards to how the UI is handled, which just stretches rather than being repositioned. Searching Google, there are tons of people with the same problem. As was mentioned earlier the HUD weapon is moved downwards as the FOV is increased which is behavior they gave the game that doesn't make sense to me.

A FOV of around 115-120 seems to be the consensus for where it should be set for 16:9. At one point there was someone working on a patch with the intent of trying to fix the HUD properly. I looked around trying to find it but my searching turned up nothing. Changing the HUD weapon positioning will need to be done separately (which is what the widescreen forum pictures are doing I suspect).

I found these:

seta cg_gunX "1"
seta cg_gunY "4.5"
seta cg_gunZ "0"
seta plasgun "cg_gunx 10; cg_guny 2; cg_gunz -8; cg_gunoffset 10,2,-8"
seta gaungun "cg_gunx 10; cg_guny 0; cg_gunz -2; cg_gunoffset 10,0,-2"
seta mggun "cg_gunx 0; cg_guny 2.7; cg_gunz -2; cg_gunoffset 0,2.7,-2"
seta bfggun "cg_gunx 0; cg_guny 0; cg_gunz 0; cg_gunoffset 0,0,0"
seta grengun "cg_gunx 0; cg_guny 4.8; cg_gunz 0; cg_gunoffset 0,4.8,0"
seta ssggun "cg_gunx 10; cg_guny 2.4; cg_gunz -4; cg_gunoffset 10,2.4,-4"
seta rlgun "cg_gunx 4; cg_guny 4.1; cg_gunz -2; cg_gunoffset 4,4.1,-2"
seta shaftgun "cg_gunx 0; cg_guny 2; cg_gunz 0; cg_gunoffset 0,2,0"
seta railgun "cg_gunx 10; cg_guny 4; cg_gunz -7; cg_gunoffset 10,4,-7"

Not sure if they will work. They could all be used as-is or potentially modified and put into the config.

I would put all of this stuff in an autoexec.cfg by the way so the game cannot change or delete it and it gets applied every time the game starts.

EDIT: I did spot this: http://www.moddb.com...uake3-openarena which might be worth a try in addition to the above.

Hud stretch is also intentional in the cgame code.

cg_gun* is cheat protected.

Also, files for a mod won't help.

if you just want widescreen in plain quake3, this might do. videos are still broken in wide though

I don't know how to help then. Someone working on a port needs to address these specific issues.

Apparently, the floating platform during Shub Niggurath's fight was a 'Dire Orb' :/

Quake champions will potentially introduce anything that kills any possibility of fast and competitive multiplayer: classes, intentional weak balancing of the weapons, basic and unfunny movement set...
All kind of things that make little brats believe to be skilled.

In NOT best of the cases, it will be a carbon copy of the DOOM 4 multiplayer.

I hate all the yammering about crap nobody cares about, lots of buzzwords and garbage that you hear about every single game about how it's groundbreaking and pushing the envelope how it's never been done before and then they show some rendered crap that isn't the game. Just show game footage.

That's why I loved the Sony E3 show so much. All gameplay videos with very minimal speaking at all. That's how it should be.

Just like that whole "This is how you share our games *passes game to friend*" schtick that went on back when this gen first launched. That was funny.

Fuck I didn't think Willits was still at id. I thought he had gone on to other things.

I was listening to the whole Champions bit in that video and something hit me. "We're making characters to fit YOUR play style." Fucking why? Why? Explain this to me. I didn't need the games of past to "cater to my style" by giving me a character that "fit my style of play." I had a generic avatar and I could run around the maps and play the game as I fucking felt, because the game gave me options. This sounds like classes. This sounds like caging in the gameplay. This sounds like YOU ARE FUCKING IT UP, id!

Also yeah. I'm tired of seeing these ultra "badass" pre-rendered cut scenes that try to hype games. I saw the one for Champions and immediately turned it off. They have absolutely no pull anymore, and I don't think they honestly impress anyone, really.

Wow, different characters with different abilities/strengths & weaknesses, never seen that before!

The most idiotic thing I've read in the comment section is how people think it's not an Overwatch ripoff because of some logic that involves Team Fortress 2 being a sequel to Quake Team Fortress which was a mod for Quake 1, all while ignoring the fact that mods ain't official and that no Quake game has done "Hero"-based gameplay yet (unless the Rune thing in Team Arena counts).

What are the odds that the hero shooter is a fad that'll be over by the time Quake Champions is released?

I haven't touched Quake Live since they turned it into a product sold on Steam. Does it have any kind of single player or way to play against bots without resorting to Add Bot in the menu or using the console to add in everything?

It does, it defaults to like 12 maximum bots, you can't pick which bots to play with (unlike in quake 3) but you can boost the amount with console commands.
I have fun playing with 32 bots on the freezetag instagib mode on some of the really smaller levels.
One thing I've noticed is the bots seem to be dumber than the original Quake 3; if you play a CTF match, for instance, none of the bots leave the flag room on either team.

So the AI is broken?

In my experience for CTF, yes
They only attack eachother on the space CTF maps, and even then they don't go for the flags.

Rest in Peace, competitive Doom 4.

Can't they make new good maps instead of rehashing the same old ones?

That new trailer makes it look almost exactly like Unreal Tournament; the only thing differentiating it is seeing Anarki and Ranger and what looks like a Campgrounds remake.

UT will be free. Will this also be free? If not, how will they convice people to pay?

In this thing's defence, most team shooters like TF2 are rarely ever played as team shooters. Most matches I've played have just been massive free-for-alls without any kind of teamwork being shown. So maybe they are just tapping into that. "You want champions/characters to blow other people up, but you can't be bothered cooperating with other players to achieve goals? Here you go then!"

I still wanted a Wolf TNO/Doom 2016 take on Shambler's Castle. Sigh. The worst thing is that we'll probably get some bastardised snap-map crap so that you won't be able to make anything decent yourself. Sigh.

The same thing could be said about Arena shooters themselves at this point.

Overwatch is the fastest selling PC game ever, with over 15 million players (or so I read earlier). I love it by the way. I think that goes to show people are still willing to pay for a quality game, seems the free-to-play fad is no longer in danger of replacing that.

I loved UT and UT2004, but for me the UT Alpha just doesn't have a great feel to it. It's cool that they're having a community made game pretty much, but at the rate it's being made I don't think it'll even be out of "beta" (it's still alpha right?) for years. It'll probably never compete with Quake Champions in player numbers.

This game looks very promising, I like what I saw in the gameplay snippets. I'll be getting it for sure. That said, I hope it has multiple modes, plenty of options and customization to suite different tastes etc.
