I think its a bit odd that the 3DR homepage is down...
Whats you guys take on this?

Either 3DR is really dead or some sinister plot at work.

I'm still waiting for an official statement from the company.

We want some official 'news' from 3DRealms, but as the website is offline I wonder how we'll see it...
(forums are semi-online though)

Either they've evacuated the building, or it's going to come back later (probably not)...
But if the site is down, wouldn't they have had the forums shut down as well, even if they WERE somewhere else...

Forums are on an external host and I'm guessing 3DR has not ordered them to pull the plug yet.

But WHY wouldn't they, if they had really gone for good?

Edit:
From the forums:
"The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later."

Yeah, if the company had gone under, I would think the plug on the forums would have been pulled as well.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what George says about all this.

What makes us think we'll even hear anything from George?

I don't know if someone has already said this but I think this just means that 3DRealms will change back to Apogee. "3DRealms is dead" and they conveniently revived Apogee... All this is speculation of course, but I wouldn't give up hope before Broussard comments on this.

Maybe George is already in Mexico.

Hey Tek, welcome!

Perhaps 3drealms has indeed closed down but they have now gone under the "Apogee" company?

The problem is all of the staff are being let go... so even if that were to happen in a legal sense regarding the companies... there are still no staff to do any work. They are all sending out feelers right now looking for new gigs.

So unless they got all the staff to "pretend" to look for work as part of the plan, it doesn't make much sense for there to be a revival or collapsing of 3DR within Apogee except for purely accounting purposes, and even that isn't very practical.

Yeah and don't forget these remarks made by the GB:-

Cutting is shipping...

Closing out another milestone...

These add weight to the conspiracy and point to the theory that its very near gold status. Any final changes could be made by George and released under Apogee or *under the* Radar Group companies.

Why continue to pay for staff when they've done their job already?

I guess our hope now is that all the guys and ladies who worked at 3drealms land on their feet. My thoughts are with them all.

As I've said a million times already, this game deserves to be finished and released. I used to say 3drealms didn't owe us that. That's true.

It's George that owes us that. Every fan who ever believed and followed, every person that busted their ass working there, all those years of waiting.....

It has to be made right.

Seriously, why did they lock the DNF Forums and why are they keeping the others opened???

I don't understand.

Likewise. It doesn't make sense.

The Duke IP is a strong one. If DNF or the Duke IP is put up for sale, I think it will be grabbed quickly.

The Duke IP hasn't had an AAA title released in well over a decade.
It's one thing to put a modest handheld product on gaming shelves, but another proposition entirely to fund a large scale multi-platform FPS.
Sure, the DNF saga has resulted in some name recognition, but most of that has had a negative connotation and is no basis to assume sincere and widespread interest.

If Duke at any time had the gravitas of a Half-Life, Halo or a GTA, it certainly isn't any time recent.

I just joined these forums under the impression that the 3DR forums won't be around forever. Truly sad news. Another link to the golden era of PC gaming broken.

The forums at 3DR are back up.

The BBC is saying they've gone bust (ie not simply closed down by the owners) so as we sit here receivers will be trawling through the offices removing anything of value. I would also expect they will be talking seriously to GB about what if anything can be used to bring in cash (eg selling the Duke name). Either way what we can now guess fairly accurately is that Duke (the character) along with the DNF source now belongs to a bank and is no longer the property of George or anyone else.
