Don't worry, folks. The 7 year development cycle, design attrition and staff departures are really paying off.
Well, I figure the "full reveal" part in the teaser meant the game will get a full on reveal of what the game will be, the setting, MAYBE a release date and MAYBE talk about multiplayer.
Then again, I also figured "Full reveal Quakecon 2014" meant that was when everyone was going to see it, but obviously the Quakecon 2014 part meant it was going to ONLY be shown at Quakecon and nowhere else, so maybe the "Full reveal" part is actually just talking about the Cyberdemon's full model being revealed and not Doom itself, and Bethesda just trolls with the eBay-like wording trickery when sellers try to scam buyers

Expect details to spill out soon
*edit* Quake Live is coming to Steam. Good on em for that
Everything below is based on a number of Twitter responses AND WILL CONTAIN GAMEPLAY SPOILERS
The game is called Doom, not Doom 4. I hate when games reuse the same old name, reboot or not.
Sounds like it takes place on Mars again?
Yep, people are saying its an origin game (as in, a reboot, not EA's Origin platform) and its about fast paced combat and gibs
More emphasis on the speed of the game being FAST
"Its not about taking cover and letting your health regenerate"
Melee combat is in, and is "brutal" Said to be a big part of the game
Multiplayer was confirmed, but no details yet
They announced it is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, the crowd boos for both
id Tech 6, 1080P 60 FPS
The art style according to one guy is a lot like Doom 3
The player ran up to some demons, killed them with a shotgun, and "karate'd" one. So I hope that means melee combat like in Fear
Apparently you can rip out body parts of demons, described as "MK style"
Player ripped off the arm of a dead guard and used it to hand scan through a security door
Blood, gore, gibs flying everywhere
Apparently lots of demons on screen
Health doesn't regenerate, and "squishing" enemies gives you health (so is it an Ego-like system?)
Some enemies are walking zombie-like and have limbs missing, others have stuff like biomechanical appendages that shoot lasers
Demo ends with doomguy getting knocked down, having his arm ripped off, and getting beat to death with it. (I was really hoping Doom 3 would have death animations because the Alpha preview had it at the end)
Someone is describing the ambient sounds as creepy in just the right way
Second level is being shown off, people saying it also looks like Doom 3 style art
The chainsaw is being shown off, sounds like it can literally rip demons in half.
The game has "a lot of strafing, a lot of running for your life"
The hand to hand moves are said to be really varied and graphic
Also a big variety of enemies at once, like a bunch of small enemies and a bunch of bigger bullet sponge enemies
This second demo ends with the player opening a door and an "80 foot" tall demon awaiting (the one from the teaser)

That was my first thought. I know some guys here didn't like Brutal Doom (or rather didn't think it was what Doom was about) but a AAA version of Brutal Doom has me very interested
*edit* More details about the showing to flesh it out more. And again, gameplay spoilers.
Colored keycards are back
Armor and health pickups
Single pump futuristic shotgun
Double barrelled is all wooden and 'classic'
Procedural dynamic damage on enemies
Double jumping
Small amount of parkour
A baron of hell smacked a rocket the player shot, causing it to miss
Melee was more one button press, not a QTE (like in Ryse)
Levels were again described as Doom 3, except brighter; closer to Quake 4
At one point there was undead marines, a mancubus, two baron of hells, skeleton knights (revenant?), and imps. Also, INFIGHTING
There was around 12 enemies at once at one point
Game uses a weapon wheel, so there's no 2 weapon limit crap
THERE IS NO RELOADING

Holy Shit, I am genuinely excited for this now.

He also told me it's more gruesome than mk9 + mkx put together.
He said the graphics are really good and the whole items and weapons and the way you progress through a level instantly reminds any doom1/2 fan of that type of classic gameplay.
He also told me it looks like both doom3 and doom1 in it's art style but it reminds you more of doom1 and 2 much more than those classic doom mods for doom3 do, which is amazing.
He also said it shows that a lot of doom1/ brutal doom fans were told to get crazy with the design of doom4 and retain as much of the old doom feel as possible.
I think we are on the verge of having a winner here people. Might even be the fps game of the decade if what my obsessed doom1/2 mate is telling me, ends up to be 100% accurate.
If my theory is correct, id noticed that doom1, after a long period of being dead, has been resurrected in a way that managed to appeal to the new generation, which is a rare thing to happen these days where every kid calls 90's games pixelated boring shit.
I am talking about brutal doom here in case you didn't realize.
What they seem to have done here is go full force in the brutal doom direction and try and capture as much of it as possible while also doing their own visual style that can provide modern animations sounds and graphics.
That is a very very smart idea in my opinion.
I am not a brutal doom fan but I am not a hater of it either.
I have played it and as an oldschool doom1/2 fan I was able to enjoy it.
I know for fact that Romero enjoys it too, so it's really a great way to evolve doom in my opinion, the only way if I think about it better.
I urge everybody interested in spreading this, to prepare themselves with youtube video downloaders and be on a look out for the most recent uploaded videos titled doom and download the youtuebe videos before watching them as there is a serious banning militia working youtube that bans everything related to it.
Whoever captures the video can upload it to mega.co.nz or to rutube or something like that that doesn't comply with international take down notices.

I wouldn't mind it being a moody ambient experience and having ridiculous over-the-top action be the contrast to that
#166 Posted 17 July 2014 - 09:08 PM
All that comes up searching for "doom" on the most recent uploaded videos on youtube is shit about that redarded league of lengends game that redarded kids play.

I'm not holding out for anything, but maybe if Gearbox sees that an old-school shooter, a TRUE (AAA no less) old school shooter, not arena-shooters like Serious Sam and Shadow Warrior, can be hugely successful, then I imagine it could ever so slightly increase the odds of us having another Duke game (as opposed to never getting one).

No, you are doing it wrong, you are on Duke4.net.
Even if the gameplay would be perfectly oldschool you have to hate it ... because that one teaser is the worst thing in the world and was only made to piss of people here and it of course ruins the whole game and all aspects about it.

Fast-paced combat against multiple enemies at once.
Set outside a massive UAC research facility on Mars as it's being invaded by the forces of Hell.
Hellknights, cyberdemons, revenants, mancubii, and other classic monsters were spotted throughout the demo.
Classic Doom weapons, including the fan-favorite double-barrell shotgun return. Plasma rifle, rocket launcher, and the good old chainsaw were also shown off.
Gameplay will be fast and unrelenting during combat. "Doom is not about about taking cover" said executive producer Marty Stratton.
Doom is powered by IdTech 6, and will be for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. They are "committed" to 1080P at 60 frames-per-second.
Gory close range executions, including special ones for dropping down on enemies from above.
Revenants now have jetpacks and can hover about while firing rockets at you.
At least one weapon, the combat shotgun, has an alternate fire mode, which allows you to charge up and release multiple shells in rapid succession.
Sprinting, double-jumping and mantling are all possible, making for fluid motion during combat.
Enemies can teleport in for old-school style ambushes
Dying results in a crazy fatality scene depending on what killed you a la Dead Space. For example, Revenants rip your arms off and punch straight through your helmet.
Old school mechanics. No reloading your clip, hold as many weapons as you want, health and ammo pick-ups etc. NO REGENERATING HEALTH.

Committed to 60fps? They better fucking give us graphics quality options in the PC version, as well as not downgrade the texture quality for release.
They need to remember that Doom is first and foremost a PC game.
I wonder what the improvements in the engine are.

Bravo to Bethesda's marketing. Announcing an exclusive beta as a pre-order incentive before announcing the game itself is dumb. Releasing a trailer that promises a "Quakecon Reveal" and making it only for attendees is bs. There's not a date/year, no publicly released gameplay, screens, or even a press release. I doubt the game is anything more than a vertical slice. I guess making it a Quakecon exclusive ensures it has a positive reception. According to RPS, the crowd was so pumped, they even cheered Tim Willits plugging AT&T as a sponsor.
Quote
I doubt any footage will leak. Everyone who entered the keynote hall had to check in their phones and cameras. Plus metric shitton of Quakecon volunteers and Zenimax employees actively monitored the audience.

Holy crap, the game is actually sounding like it might be good (as long as they don't pull an A:CM on us).
What I can't believe is that they are waiting till NEXT YEAR to let us know more. What about this beta we've all been promised?

Well I'll be doomed ..that actually sounds awesome.
I don't like the "No Reloading" though :/...
Reloading adds to immersion imo.

What I'm saying is, this sounds good, but I'm not getting excited until I try it and see for myself. Saying that this could shape other new FPS games into something more 'oldschool' while hardly anybody has seen the game yet, is very farfetched.
But it only shows how their marketing method worked. Nobody's seen what the game really is like but we get a list of "features" that SHOULD appeal to oldschool FPS lovers.... It's like those 'features' are the most important. But don't forget, it can still suck even with all that.
I also don't like Brutal Doom so whatever; and if you ask me Brutal Doom is everything good about retro FPS taken AWAY from the game, so something that pretends to be like an oldschool FPS AND like Brutal Doom at the same time, doesn't make sense to me. However I'm thinking they're emphasezing the influence they've taken from Brutal Doom a LOT as a marketing technique, too, so I don't think it can be as bad.

I can understand how Brutal Doom can be disliked for how it modifies the game, but this statement makes absolutely no sense to me. It's not as if the gameplay has been dramatically altered to be exactly like Call Of Duty/Halo, particularly since Brutal Doom can be customized specifically to disable contentious features such as reloading.
