I wish it was possible to see how bombshell is selling. :/

I know it is a single player game but there are currently only 3 people playing the game on Steam right now...

There's also this graph that shows 76 players is their peak and is steadily declining ('n' is the release day)
Posted Image

I also know that SteamSpy is not accurate when a game is newly released as well when a game doesn't have enough sales to graph properly yet but I think that might be an indicator of not selling well in itself:

Yes, GOG exists but 56 people have "voted" on the game which isn't really an indicator since anyone can vote even if they don't have the game and the game itself only has one review on GOG compared to Steam which has 80 reviews.

Poor Bombshell.

I posted it below Tea Monster´s post to remind the world which was the first live tentacled EDF soldier out there.

So out of two people who copied a canned idea for a failed game, you were the first! Con-grats!

Jesus man, nobody cares. The world doesn't have to revolve around you in every thread.

according to the post votes 7 people cares. But it´s ok, i can understand how that could be annoying. Its just that I think that the whole reharsh the 1998 trailer material comes from the DNF mod and I have no false modesty to point it out everytime i can.

That's ridiculous, you made a mod based on DNF trailers, and they made a game based on canned DNF material (Bombshell... anyone ?!); so of course some references are going to match.
Saying you gave them the idea, when the idea itself doesn't even come from you to begin with, is really putting yourself in the center of the world.

And saying "I gave them the idea to base themselves on the same ideas as I did" sounds like you're trying WAY too hard to look for yourself into other people's projects. That's even lower than the "bench stealing" discussion.

The bench was mine.

And well.. I don´t claim the idea´s IP but I believe a DNF-retro trend started with the DNF mod. And I believe the canned/reharsh material just as the retro "prequel" are products of that trend. The 1998 material remained untouched and depreciated for 15 years. I take it´s all a coincidence and that i look too hard for myself in other people´s projects.

In case it´s necessary to say: I´m not expecting any kind of recogntion, i even wave the rights of "prequel lost in time" and "bringing back the 1998 trailer material" for all the community. After all, the DNF mod idea started after a discussion with you and other people from this community, which means I should give all of you a share of the fortune I was about to make sueing Gearbox and Interceptor.

If you guys want to discuss that you recycled and ripped other people's ideas and material for a Duke3D mod and how appropriate that was or not do it elsewhere (like PMs). If you want to advertise it do it in the appropriate parts of the forum. This thread is about Bombshell.

Personally I wouldn't say that. However, it's possible that it means console ports idea death, I can't say that top-down shooters are very popular on consoles and even for a top-down shooter Bombshell performed horribly, so it will be risky.

Anyway, guess for now sequel isn't just a good bonus to the main game and they going to treat it seriously. Top-down shooters is clearly not their thing and since they have competent people on that project who's doing their work because they love it, there is a hope that it will be successful.

Sorry about that. I don´t really care about Bombshell, watched part of a playthrough of it and found the intro and all the loading art quite cool but then the game has no appeal to me. I look forward though to play the 8bits thing.

That tentacle soldier is from the classic 2001 trailer, though I also dig the 98 trailer with the weird ant aliens and whatnot (and one of the best Grabbag versions). :dukeaffirmative:

On Bombshell, the build engine shooter will be awesome. On Interceptor, I hope they go back to a full-on action game for their next big game, a FPS or third person shooter.

Overhead shooters actually tend to do better on consoles
Much easier to use dual joysticks than mouse and WASD
RPGs like Diablo, where its point and click, definitely do better on PC though

Depends from control scheme, not to mention that without dual shock it's actually much much worse. It's difficult to play old Crimsonland with pad because of control scheme, for example. Even if you have dual shock. It's not that complex, but you simply won't be able to use some of the features. New version of Crimsonland was hated by old fans exactly because developers tried to appease pad/mobile players while could provide more options because keyboard and mouse doesn't share pad/mobile limitations (good thing that they listened people and fixed it).

I think Hotline Miami developers had issues with pad control as well at first.

At least personally I prefer to play top-down shooters with mouse and keyboard and find pads uncomfortable even though I started to play games on consoles and even played Diablo 1 on PSone first. Dual shock is nice and maybe closer to KB+M, but not better.

Interceptor won't die from this, its called learning from the mistakes and moving on. Bombshell however most likely wont have a new game or at least not in this genre for sure. I personally had a lot of fun with it but obviously it hit some bad nerves and points for some people. I think that has a lot to do with the misinterpretation of what type of game it is. I really like episode 2 very much it just hit the spot for me. The reason for not many people playing is because of those reviews it got from the high corporations. Believe it or not most humans are just followers even the writers of those reviews.

I don't think that franchise is dead with this game. Definitely not. Besides, I still want to see the prequel. I think it's more than likely that they won't touch the genre.

A shame though that those "professionals" are somehow still relevant.

TechRaptor interview with Frederik:

Quote

TechRaptor: Speaking of shooters, I’ve seen some gorgeous screens from the Build engine prequel to Bombshell. How is progress on that going?

Frederik: Its really shaping up to be something special. We can’t wait to show you more!

TechRaptor: Why use the two-decade old engine for a new game?

Frederik: The original idea was to create a game that could almost be considered “Found Footage”. There were almost rumors that 3D Realms worked on Bombshell back in the mid-nineties. What if that game was already made, but never released?

We wanted the prequel to take place before Bombshell lost her arm. And we wanted the game to feel like it was from that era. We choose the Build engine for authenticity. It wouldn’t be right trying to emulate something in another engine. We wanted the real deal :dukeaffirmative:

TechRaptor: And finally, besides the Bombshell prequel, are there any other projects in the pipeline?

Frederik: Definitely! Soon we’re announcing 2 exciting new projects. A throwback to one of the first IP’s we were part of in the form of the spiritual successor, this time in full 3D, and a first person shooter classic from 1998, we’re working on bringing back with a legendary team. :) We’re excited!

Edit:

When do you think we'll hear about rebooted Ritual and SiN?

The first one is a spiritual successor to Commander Keen (as leaked by Leon in a stream), no doubt the FPS is SiN though.

Hmm... Very, very skeptical about Interceptor's ability to pull off something in the Commander Keen-vein. None of their projects have displayed any Tom Hall-esque charm. :dukeaffirmative:

I'm not sure people want Tom Hall-esque charm though, poor Worlds of Wander

Not to be a downer but Interceptor is yet to prove they can pull off anything at all.
The ROTT Remake was a buggy mess with dumber AI than Wolf 3D, clunky gameplay, the same problems of the original ROTT (like weak or unsatisfying bullet weapons and only carry one bazooka type), f-ugly dismemberments and "classic" wall-that-suddenly-collapses-behind-you in favor of checkpoints instead of more open ended levels (i.e. worse then the original game).
Bombshell I haven't played but seems to have "bombed" even more then ROTT by the reception it got.

While I have absolutely no problem with a new SiN game, I'm not sure I can trust new 3DR with it. I wonder if they can find the original voice actors again, or people who sound like the original voice actors.

I wonder if they can make platformers. Hopefully it won't be the same as typical hipsters garbage which people call platformers. Would kill for a good and original platformer with interesting level design as well.
