Anyone know why Doom 4 was being outsourced and who "won" the commission?

Scaled down and repainted actually. The replacements will consist of repainted Doom/Doom64 monsters, mostly following the same shape and similar design. As much as I would like to make completely new sprites, this is the only way we could make custom monsters for this mod in a sensible time frame - there are some new ones and a new boss that I will still have to make from scratch anyway. The guns are totally new too!

The sound effects and the feel of the chaingun is so fucking powerful feeling; using the super shotgun up close on a zombie or imp and blasting them into gibs that are hitting the ceiling and dripping down blood or splatting into the walls and sliding down, all the while the levels and art is much darker and more gritty, it all comes together a lot better than it did before.
It just feels right.
Also, one of my favorite things from these older games is how dead bodies always stay. I really really like backtracking into a room I was in earlier, theres just bodies, guts, and tons of chaingun rounds scattered everywhere.

The concept is not new but the design seems nice.
