UNITINU? You take the DOOM logo, and mirror it halfways. You now have DOOD. Or MOOM, depending. Now do that to the entire coverart.

What PikaCommando is saying is that Doomguy looks mirrored.

My favorite part is the shutterstock-like watermarks and that the Doom3 logo was crappily cropped

Doom II, standing up like it's a full new game (not a DLC of Doom I) and deriding Doom 3 - shame on you - shame!

I believe the term you're looking for is "expansion pack".

"Expandalone" is the term I'd use. Actually they'd best be represented by siamese twins.

Not sure if I've posted this before, but here's my Doom (movie) music video using NemRaps' Boom.

The cowards at Zenimax have served the creators of Doom, the Roguelike with a cease and desist.

Unrelated, but Brutal Doom is up for the best 'fan creation' award tonight at Geoff Keighley's shindig.

He just isn't allowed to use the name Doom in his marketing, they aren't pulling the plug on the entire game

Doom also just an English word, you know. This situation reminds me of how they sued someone for the use of the word Scroll.

They should sue dictionaries which mention words doom, fallout, scrolls, etc, honestly. People who make these clearly want to attract other people to their dictionaries.

The musician Sting couldn't trademark his name because "sting" too is "just a word". It's madness I tell ya!

Yeah, all these copyright laws are insane, especially in USA. Good thing TPP didn't happen, we can only imagine how bad it would be. In Japan it's better though (in some cases, the only problem is that you can get in jail for piracy). For example, you can use any kind of IP to make manga and sell it for actual money.

What did he do to get singled out? Is it just a mod of the original Doom, or is he making it in another engine? We all know how they think about that last one don't we?

As far as I remember DoomRL was a standalone game all it's own.

https://doom.chaosforge.org/

It just a totally different game using all shit in DooM universe with RPG elements/Roguelike style. Of course nothing to do with original DooM, not even a "mod". And that mail from Zenimax is not copyright warning, but trademark.

Maybe, but if you look that mail, I think the reasons are all in there...their website didn't had any of trademark info of DooM, id and Zenimax...

Ignore my earlier post; it's because he/they are using DoomRL, a standalone project based on Doom that used the name and (seemingly) resources from Doom, edited, and not requiring any Doom iwad to run.
I think that in and of itself wouldn't be much to get attention; however using that project to piggyback their new project based off it that they are asking money for? That will get noticed, and Bethesda/Zenimax are pretty protective of their properties.

The project predates Zenimax's id purchase by 7 years. Oh well, I'm not sad that an industry built on the backs of modders and fan games is now legally killing mods and fan games. If it's legal, it's right.

While Bethesda are taking legal action against DoomRL, John Carmack has backed the spiritual successor on Kickstarter.

Why so many keeps mixing Bethesda and Zenimax together? Yes, Zenimax owns Bethesda and Bethesda owns id and its game IPs but this legal complaint is from Zenimax, not the others.

Reading this whole thread maybe a better idea I think. Maybe the Doomworld related one too.
