Vulkan support has now been added to the game.

Doesn't work on Nvidia 2GB video cards on windows 7... oh well. Apparently it does wonders for some people, but is worse for others.

Yeah, it seems to be pretty mixed from what I've read. Hopefully I'll be one of the people who gets some benefit from it when I try it out.

Simply crashes on launch on my 460 but I guess I shouldn't have expected otherwise. (hurry up, 970...bloody Canadian shipping. Delayed due to storm and now the strike is probably going to start soon)

From what I've heard the performance boost is pretty biased towards AMD with nVidia performance actually being worse. But they'l work it out I'm sure.

The only thing I didn't like about the Chex Quest games is that they're too short. Chex Quest 3 includes updated versions of 1 and 2 to take advantage of ZDOOM but I always play through it too fast.

shame it's not doom4 based. I would have loved to see the super bootspork animations, and glory zorches

The game came in a cereal box. What do you expect :P.

Viktor Antonov (HL2, Redneck Rampage), visual design director for Zenimax, who contributed to Doom (2016), has left the studio to join Darkwise, a Montreal team founded and staffed by Ubisoft veterans.

I love Antonov's work. HL2 and Dishonored has some of my favorite stuff

Has he done any more of these Antonov skies?

I had no idea he worked for Xatrix, no wonder their work had such amazing art design.

I clicked in the middle of that video and for a for a few seconds I thought I was looking at art design for the first level of new Doom.

Does the game have full body awareness?

Doom? No it does not.

It's interesting that FBA has fallen by the wayside, as there was a period where it started to feature in quite a few games and was another thing to help increase immersion for players. I'm guessing it has been forgotten as developers aren't spending the resources implementing it into their games as it might not be something that is worth doing or is even noticed by players. There could be other reasons I could be missing, but they seem like the most obvious ones. I'd be curious to know why it isn't something that you see these days, unless I'm just not playing all the right games. :P

Do you mean being able to see your body in 1st person view (e.g. seeing your legs when you look down)? I don't think anyone really cares, although you do see your limbs when performing glory kills. I didn't notice hearing my own footsteps at all, either, although you make a sound when landing from a big fall. Again, no one really cares. This game isn't about immersion, it's about oldschool gameplay with nice graphics.

Sometimes. When you fall from a high height you see your arms and legs a bit. However if you turn the FOV way up to 130 the lense stretches back so far yoy can see the holes in your arm model and the elbows. I noticed in a recent level I played that you are apparently a vampire because you don't show up in bathroom mirrors at all.

That surprises me, that in the focus for great visuals, they would leave out something that's increasingly commonplace for shooters. I understand old games not having it because no one did it then and it would have eaten up what little resources could be put into other things. Does it even have a player shadow? In DOOM 3 the player shadow is disabled by default for performance reasons but it's easily enabled via the config. For RAGE and BFG Edition though, there's no way to force it to show up even though by that point the performance difference would have been insignificant. So id releases this graphics powerhouse of a game and leaves out the rest of your body and doesn't have a player shadow either? They've been good about having lots of things you can turn on and off to customize it to preference but this isn't even an option. After playing so many shooters with a player shadow and full body awareness where you feel like you're actually part of the game world, I'm surprised by this. Yeah I know it's all about providing a classic FPS experience but they don't force you to use centered weapons even though that's classic id.

The only FPS I've played with FBA was L4D, and honeslty I thought it looked very awkward. I doubt there is a way to make it look good honestly, because a video game first person view is so different from real life.

The Starbreeze trifecta has done it and done it well (The Darkness, The Riddick games, Syndicate)
To a lesser extent, the Call of Juarez series has done it (I don't know if they've all done it, but I do know your hands/guns interact with objects when you step too close in all four CoJ's)
Fear and Condemned also had it and was done fairly well; when you see your shadow in Condemned some of the melee attacks looked a bit awkward (like Duke jumping in a mirror in DNF awkward)
It can look good in first person, the problem is when you do multiplayer, some of it looks freakish (like in Dead Island, lots of those animations look fine in first person but when you see another player doing it it is quite hilarious)

That could be the reason they left it out, since they didn't want to have to worry about the various player models. My impression of Doom is that it has an extremely focused design. Anything that wasn't essential to their vision wasn't included. It worked out well for them.

"Full body awareness" is not a vital neccessity for immersion.

I've hacked in such thing in my game knockoff once and all I could see when looking down was a chest. not my feet. which isn't even realistic either. Doesn't help the "eye" has to be in the center of a head instead of where the eyes actually are on the model

also seeing your own shadow in full body awareness games typically show the upper torso in an uncanny stiff position anyhow (so the head wouldn't shake all over), so immersion is thrown out either way. See: Tribes 2, Operation Flashpoint, etc

It's not, but I do like it. FEAR was the first game I played that had it and I thought "that's neat, I wonder why more games don't do this?" I just figured for how visually dazzling DOOM is that they would include it as an option.

I noticed that too, Duke is still the master of bathroom mirrors. :P Also in DOOM I don't think the player casts a shadow, does he? But in the modes where you can become a Baron of Hell demon, I notice there you have a shadow. So I wonder if the Doom Marine even has a visible player model in the single-player game. I guess since we never see it there doesn't need to be one.

The armor is displayed in the upgrades menu and you can unlock it as a view able model. So the mode does exist, but there's no reason to render it in single player at all.

Except for a mirror....

Not that I care. I'm fine with sacrificing that for some performance if it makes a difference.
