Gameplay still doesn't interest me at all though.

The mapmaking feature looked awesome. Movement speed is faster than Doom 3, but the game still feels slow. The weak shotgun with a huge crosshair that slowly. Unfortunately, all the cool shooting is frequently interrupted by canned two-second QTE cutscenes of brutal melee attacks. There's never more than six enemies on screen.

I agree with the Australians. Nothing here really draws me in, and the combat looks pretty generic. Weak shotgun and everything; the weak enemies really need to go down in one blow. The playfield also seems to be pretty flat. Could really use a lot more vertical play; even the original Doom had some vertical height differences despite the primarily 2D nature of the engine.

The overall yellow look of the game doesn't really please the eyes. Otherwise it looks pretty impressive visually.

So far I like what I'm seeing. It has that DOOM 3 horror atmosphere with better action FPS gameplay, and the level design feels like they've been watching Machinegames and how they craft more open FPS levels. All in all, I really like it, and hopefully the final game is at least half as good visually as that pre-rendered video.

I agree 100% on the game "looking" bland and generic, the weapons look bland, everything is brown and grey, even Hell is brown and grey what the hell is up with that? But the gameplay got me excited straight away with the double jumping, parkour and executions. Also the chainsaw killing animations are just SOO good, I'm gonna be using the chainsaw a lot.

That Doom Snapmap put a smile on my face the moment I saw it, this game will have endless amounts of maps, there be no excuse for the lack of mod tools in the next Duke game if it is made.

Sound design really bugs me. Doom 3 had brilliant sound design, so why can't this one? Dude, that farting plasma rifle and bland monster sounds. The most dissapointing aspect of the game so far as well as flat levels. I really hope they will put to some good use that double jump feature.

A lot of those sounds used could be placeholders, the game isn't gold yet, after all.

So we're getting a Doom 3 modded with Brutal Doom, with the addition of time-pausing QTE takedowns and time pausing weapon selection. I had hoped at least the guns felt right and had some punch to them, but instead we're given incomprehensible blobs that look like blocks of raw ore with no animation or kick to them.

Honestly this looks alright. I like the enemies, what I see of how they behave, and I like the environment. However gameplay seems a little slow and yeah, fuck the QTEs and the menu pausing.

I'll play it.... but not at full price.

Yeah I'll wait for it to be 2.49€ on Steam, but I guess I'll end up trying it anyway.

I don't quite get why people are so upset about the current look of Hell in the game. Maybe I'm not as good at being critical as some other people are, but I like that they haven't just squirted gore everywhere, mounted skulls on spikes and covered the landscape in screaming and tortured souls. I like that this version of Hell has a semblance of order about it and that it feels more like a place of mental torture as much as physical. It reminds me of how Clive Barker constructs the Cenobite's version of Hell, a place of fear and pain but not a repetitive grotesquerie where instant revulsion is this all-consuming thing.

Looking at the footage again has made me realise that this game has some flaws and questionable choices, but not so many that I feel the need to make myself wait to play the game. It looks like it took a lot of DOOM 3's survival horror looks and other qualities (some good, some bad) and married them with the more action-packed gameplay of the two original games. Maybe not a world-conquering combination, but it doesn't make me not want to play the game.

So in totality we have:

1. People who say this game looks good.
2. People who say the gameplay doesn't look good.
3. People who say people who believe opinion 2 need to get over it and be thankful there's a new DooM game at all.

Looks like another AAA bunker-buster. I'll probably wait for it to go on sale and play it just for lip service's sake.

I will agree the gameplay seems...standard at best. But we haven't seen much yet or played it.

I really can't find anything to complain about, personally. Especially after looking at the cancelled concepts that were leaked.

The gameplay looks alright, good freedon of movement, no realth-regen, etc.
I'm "psyched". The levels look too brown but I still like what I see.

I also really hope that we get the traditional "real" modding tools, in addition to the new SNAPMAP feature.

This has probably been posted before, but I'm too lazy to go check, but let's just take a minute and "appreciate" (Note the sarcasm) what "Doom" could have looked like...

Thank God "Doom" was revamped, probably going to get an Xbox One just for this.

That's quite the Photoshop edit, but why would someone take a perfectly good screenshot from Doom 4 and make it all boring yellow and brown?

"Everything looks too brown" Quakified Doom, lol. Last month people loved an action movie that was just that, in fact.

Well, at least the Cacodemons "look" like Cacodemons (unlike Doom 3). And the final demon at the end of the trailer looks fucking badass. I wonder if it's a new one, because the Cyberdemon surely doesn't look like that.

People wanting the game to be fast need to pay attention to one thing: animating a human to run at rocket speeds would look ridiculous in this day and age. Doom the original was funky because it "could" be. The marine sprite could run as fast as it could because hey, it was a fucking sprite, and therefore animating it didn't require as much effort as a 3D model.

"Shotgun is weak" I wonder if you have played Doom, because the single-barrel Shotgun in that was a fucking peashooter. Downing an Imp in a single hit required a well-aimed shot. Pinkies often required three. Which is exactly why they added the Super Shotgun to Doom 2: the original Shotgun just wouldn't cut it against the new demons. I'd be far more concerned if the Super Shotgun was the weak one, like in Serious Sam 3 where it's barely good enough to kill Juvenile Arachnoids and Minor Biomechs (in Doom 2 the equivalent Arachnotron could be downed with the Super Shotgun rather quickly).

That being said, it wasn't as fast as the classic Doom but it still seemed faster than the average modern FPS.

Do people just not want to accept the new Cyberdemon? That is the same Cyberdemon from the original announcement trailer. Only not as dark. Personally I'm a huge fan of the new looks to the demons/weapons/doom marine. On the topic of the look of the weapon, so what if they look alike? It's UAC that probably developed them, so wouldn't they have a similar basis? Look at Glocks, they all look the same. Now I do agree that they don't look as iconic as classic Doom's, or Doom 3's, but hey the BFG looks pretty epic.

Mad Max success doesn't make any media that make excessive use of color filters exempt of criticism. It's a serious problem of the filmmaking and videogame industries. We live in a world where technology allows the use of the whole color specter, yet media is limited to desaturated duochrome.

Because then it becomes a bit harder to differentiate them on a moments notice. I've had problems in other games where the shotguns and machineguns look so similar I forget which one I even have equipped. The shotgun, plasmagun, and to a small extent the new heavy magine gun have very similar shape and design. The super shotgun, chaingun, and BFG all look completely different than anything else.
Add to that the imps, regular fodder zombie, and hellknights all look the exact same from a distance, then it becomes a problem in a game that is fast paced and you need to have twitch reflexes. If you can recognize something instantly just from the silhouette, you have good design.
Its disappointing because the parts that look unique look really fucking cool. The cyberdemon, mancubus, Cacodemon, and revenant (which seems to be the new star of the game) and the tiny glimpse of the Pinky demon all look fantastic.

First, Fury Road was orange, not brown :)
Second, I think the shotgun is the new default starting weapon, so it's not going to be that strong. Thats okay, but there was a few parts where the supershotgun, from mid to near point blank, took several shots to kill a fodder enemy. I hope it was just to allow them to showcase the fatalities more and that the balancing isn't done yet, so all that is fine.

I like it. It looks like Immortan Joe had a child with a Hell Knight.

I somehow think 3D Realms back in the day understood weapon balance better. In Duke3D even the pistol is useful in some occasions. The Freezer was difficult to use, so they added the Protector Drone in Atomic, which was very vulnerable to the Freezer.

Even though Mad Max: Fury Road was set in a wasteland, it managed to have a reasonably varied color palate (plus being the best, most relentless action film ever made helps). It's art direction is certainly on another level compared to the Doom reboot. I haven't seen anything as outrageous/audacious as a Fury Road's badass bungee-cord flaming guitar guy.

I like the new Doom. Cyberdemon looks a bit cartoony. Don't like it when trailer guys make the big enemy SCREAM AT YOU FOR A FEW SECONDS. It's become a cliché now.
