If the frames are so bad where you are struggling to play. Here are somethings you can do and sorry if it doesn't help. I have 8gb ram and way above the minimum requirements so I don't know. I get a 50-60 fps on ultra. So I use a custom between high medium and ultra which results in always 60 even while recording.

But for a lower ram machine you may try

1. Go to nvidia control panel make sure the preferred graphics processor is set to your nvidia card/high performance. For further insurance click on program settings and find doom make sure its using the one you want it to use.

2. Lower resolution percentage (this one makes a pretty big difference in the way it looks and runs)

3. Change your aspect ratio lower...might suck but worth a shot if your running really low.

So I finally finished the game last night and I have to say that I am really impressed. It took me 34 hours on Ultra-Violence (yes, I am that slow), to max out all the weapons, suit upgrades, runes, and find all the secrets and logs. I really dig the flow of the combat, and it makes for a lot of varied fights when you move around the levels and change weapons to better suit your needs, and even more so when you start facing a greater assortment of enemies. I actually quite enjoyed the soundtrack too, though while not iconic, it is quite appropriate and matched the feel of the game, depending on whether you were exploring or in the thick of it. The atmosphere was fairly decent too (especially playing late at night), and the environments were very detailed. All in all, you could really see the effort the team put into the game in all aspects, and while I only had a few quibbles, there wasn't anything that I hated or thought was really poorly done and needed to be done differently. 9/10 for me, and I'm thankful to whoever was involved in deciding that the game needed a reboot from the Call Of Doom version. Looking forward to seeing what id software serves up next. :)

Just finished my 2nd playthrough on Nightmare and I really wish I knew Nightmare was unlocked from the start cause I thought it was locked due to being highlighted in red. Nightmare was brutal fun.

I'm not gonna try Ultra Nightmare until the game is fixed cause I've had a lot of crashes and I don't want my Ultra Nightmare run ruined due to a crash.

Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare are locked from the start, you have to either beat it once or type in a launch command to unlock it.

If you pop the balloon you get kids either yaying or booing you.

If you have framerate issues try doing a malware scan, i had issues with a GTX980, would play at 60fps at 1440p with ultra settings but the fps would drop down to below 25 and not go back up.

Turns out i had a couple of infected Realtek audio driver files, once they were deleted i had no FPS issues.

I missed that one. Whereabouts was it? Also, there's a thread over at the Doomworld forums about Easter eggs and references. There's some pretty neat ones, some quite obvious, some probably less so. Worth a look if you're interested in seeing what the developers have hidden in there.

Do you have to log into any other services other than Steam to play the new DOOM? I seem to recall mention of bethesda.net.

No, you need a Doom ID if you want to upload SnapMap levels, but there's no signup involved in that beyond setting a username (it's attached to your Steam account)

So I've been hearing that some new games (of which DOOM is included) includes a form of DRM known as Denuvo which protects against "tampering with" the game files. Basically DRM on top of DRM so that people can't pirate Steamworks games I guess. That has significantly hampered my enthusiasm for purchasing this game. Not sure I want to support that kind of nonsense. Thoughts?

there are more important things in life to worry about than DRM for a video game (or rather don't let it stop you playing the FPS GOTY)

Or there are more important things in life than playing video game for that matter.

Denuvo just protects the game executable, not the game assets. You can still go in to the game.resources file and change various things. That being said, anything you can't change there, or do in snapmap your kinda out of luck until someone unpacks the executable. If your not looking to mod the game, then worrying about Denuvo is irrelevant.

Personally, I don't want to support DRM in the industry, but most AAA games come with one form of DRM or another, so it comes to balancing how much you want to boycot this industry practice with how worth a game is to you to concede a exception.
E.g.: I know if Doom came with always-online DRM (the worst kind IMO), I'd pirate the shit out of it or not bother playing it at all if there was no crack available.

Of course there are more important things, but I'm not going to support business practices I don't agree with. I haven't decided if I agree with Denuvo or not. The fact of the matter is that DOOM has two forms of DRM. If you're going to have DRM you only need one. I just don't agree with anti-piracy measures and their vain attempts to squash it as it just frustrates legitimate buyers. I'm ok with Steam for a variety of reasons but the biggest being it's unobtrusive. If Denuvo really is unobtrusive, well, I'll have to wait and see. But first impressions makes it feel like another incarnation of SecuRom. Regardless, two forms of DRM is unnecessary, I feel, and I don't want to support that kind of overprotection.

Either way I can't play the game anyway so I'm not buying it any time soon as it is already. But I don't care if it's "just a video game." It costs money (a whole lot of it) and I'm very careful to consider whether it's really worth throwing away my money. It's the only power I have over game developers and publishers.

I don't know enough about Denuvo to have a opinion, but steam isn't that great at protecting against piracy. It makes sense to have something else on top of steam. My only annoyance with a Denuvo protected Doom EXE, is modders are basically SOL, which means most of the hardcore guys will probably go back to the original Doom.

I'm just not ok with supporting actions that implement multiple DRM schemes. Steamworks+Denuvo beomg a lesser evil than some other form of sole-DRM that could have been implemented is probably a fair case to make, but I don't know......SecuRom was equally "harmless" and people had huge issues with that. Locking modders out of making changes is another bad notion. I just wish people would just make games and let people play with them like they used to. Nothing anyone has ever done against piracy has stopped anybody from pirating anything. It barely diminishes it. And whatever percentage it does diminish isn't converted to sales. Just stop fighting it. And locking modding out (except on your own terms) just drives people away. The disdain for Snapmap is already mounting everywhere I look.

Neccronixis released some kick-ass Doom 4 weapon sprites, so I animated the shotguns.

I'm super proud of these.

There is such an easy workaround with the DooM DRM that it begs the question of why even adding it in the first place (unless you're deadset on having multiplayer, which I've heard with this game is a waste of time anyway).

And it shouldn't be. Because it's a lost cause. Even Ubisoft admitted their stupid always-DRM failed. Yet companies still try to implement those. And it's not like suddenly everyone who's pirating will start to buy. DRM is stupid and can be a pain for actual buyers.

The only successful DRM is making your game an MMO.
