Weird, I'm suddenly reminded of a certain loser in a hood.

but you dont. ROTT2013 was a buggy game that pathetically tries to claim that it is "old-school" when it isn´t.

I disagree.
a. Overall, with all the fixes and patches they did, it is an average game in it's own right.
b. He did issue the level editor with the game, very rare that nowadays
c. It does play like an old school game.

So, go relax, get a beer or something .... Posted Image

Even if some of that is true, all the other points stand. Fred is nothing but a "me too" buying his way into the 3DR photo op. BTW, im not agreeing with you, ROTT13 sucked balls.

Any criticism anyone has of Fred is now invalid because he's doing what we long thought would never happen. The release of developmental Duke3D and Shadow Warrior content is unprecedented.

Exactly. I think Fred's just an opportunistic douche that got lucky that he has a rich dad or something, trying to associate himself with 3DR/Apogee to "be cool". Taking the easy route, instead of starting from scratch, making a name for yourself. Fred, you're not one of the "old ones", you own a shell of dead company that has been rotting away for years. Maybe those stacks of Balls of Steel boxes make you think you have some cred, but you dont. ROTT2013 was a buggy game that pathetically tries to claim that it is "old-school" when it isn´t. The whole way it was marketed, like some kind of holy alternative to the "CoD Borefests" was just completely misleading. George Broussard is a has-been, and will always be one. All the photo-op was missing was John Romero to complete the shot.

The worst thing Frederik has done was establishing the Third Reich and execution of the Holocaust.

Implying that was a bad thing.

Technically, the new logos are well done, I think the "L shape" is a bad idea composition wise - it's a less optimal use of space and I'm not sure where it's supposed to point recipient's focus here. Also I think that "D" obscuring the "3" impairs the readability. Here, we all know what it's supposed to be, but in such cases, to the surprise of the designer, general public often doesn't get it. Readability should be the first priority IMO.

Other than that, I don't mind the logo change at all - it's a good idea actually, to give the old 3dRealms some closure and give a sign to the "audience" that there's something new (and hopefully, great!) coming.

I just came across the new logo icon for the twitter feed.

I dunno, seems almost unreadable so small. I had to do a double take to figure out what I was looking at, and I already knew all about the new design.

Like I said on one of the facebook pages. That is a lazy design. Really. The original logo is iconic, distinct, and has a long history. Update it for the HD age, sure, but don't throw it out for generic text that anyone could whip up during their lunch break.

LONG LIVE 3D REALMS.

Hell, if they're too lazy *i'll* take a crack at redoing the original logo in 3D. It's not that hard!

It's slightly ironic how now that something is being done with 3DR, we've come full circle and retro 2D stuff is popular again.

Indeed! Though it would be rather cool to see some of the classic Apogee side scrollers redone with some pseudo 3D ideas in them, ala Duke Nukem Manhattan Project. That would be one way to update Bio Menace without just doing a "Duke Nukem 3D" version of it.

Is Blake Stone something that Apogee/3D Realms have any rights to?

I don't want to be a broken record here, Frederik, but if you happen to read this: Really. Truly. Do not discard the original logo. I mean no offense towards whoever designed the new one, and it is not just for nostalgia or for fan service, but the original logo has dollar value attached to it. It's recognizable to a very large demographic of older gamers. It's the kind of thing that will breed excitement. If this renewed 3D Realms is to have a renaissance of life, it would also be nice if it bore the classic label, too. Not something that feels, frankly, very generic. I like that Interceptor has a simpler little logo design, but for 3DR, the design that was setup in 1995 was just a work of genius. The color choices and the boldness of it, BAM. It hits you.

You could put it that way. Or you could say that 3DR has developed a bad reputation of not finishing DNF or doing anything else for 12 years. Some might say the old logo would leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

Almost no one I have spoken to regarding the logo feels that way about it. Including a couple people who are not exactly Duke fans.

Honestly, if they want to update the logo my personal opinion is that they should take the original, lose the extrusions, drop the serifs from the font, ditch the perspective on "REALMS" and flat shade the whole thing. That gives you a logo that adheres to modern design guidelines while still being instantly recognizable from afar or in a thumbnail (which the current logo is not recognizable at all as).

Not quite what I was thinking, but almost! Needs the blue outline on REALMS (my idea only cuts the perspective, not the border) and I'd go with two flat shades of blue to maintain perspective on "3D".

I think keeping the classic extrusion of the "3D", but making it solid colour for the sake of being fresh or simple is a bad move IMO.

This may or may not be off topic. Fred has the source code to Kingpin: Life of Crime. I just replied that he should get in touch w/ Interplay & id Software (since the game runs off id Tech 2 a/k/a the Quake II engine) into getting that GPL'ed. Now if the source codes to Redneck Rampage, Redneck Deer Huntin, and RR Rides Again pops up hopefully in the future. If that happens start talks w/ Activision on also getting them GPL'ed

I still miss Xatrix/Grey Matter Interactive to this day. Activision; How dare you destroy GM!

I'd be interested in the Redneck Rampage code... tried for a while to get it last year in order to merge into EDuke32 to support those games, but was ultimately unsuccessful after talking to the original programmer, head mapper (who is at Blizzard now and confirmed that their ownership of RR was only temporary), etc.

Oh for fuck's sake, that box really shouldn't just display any tweet with a particular tag like that. B)

Wouldn't it be smarter just to make it a direct feed to Interceptor's official Twitter account instead of specific tags? That way, you don't get some asshole flooding a tracked tag with garbage and taking a giant shit on the website Twitter feed.

Yeah, those guys are really lucky I have an extremely positive opinion of 3DR/Interceptor because of this beta stuff. B)

That is so exploitable.
