Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction "All Out Of Gum aka Gearbox foils Interceptor's plan again"
#811 Posted 29 April 2014 - 04:54 PM
What i'm angry about is that this franchise has consistently for over a decade now been treated to these coy games, long stretches of silence, and then abortions of projects. It's getting old. If they really do have such a firm leg to stand on, this should be an open and shut case. They should have vetted this more thoroughly before announcing and putting out all this nonsense.
I doubt at this point, given the countdown clock at the top of the nogumneeded page that there is any 'hope' that this will be a Duke game. I think that's bold-faced self deception. They may have thought they had the rights to something, and it turned out not to be the case, so they had to backtrack and reconfigure things. Maybe that'll even be for the best. If it is something along the lines of Bombshell taking Duke's place. That might fit better since she's an unknown entity with a new gamestyle. The point is, we don't know, and the reason we don't know is because they haven't said anything. Legal issues? Maybe. How about a statement with something as simple as "we changed direction" "we're still going forward as we planned" "The ongoing legal issues have blah-de-blah." instead of the same old song for Duke.
Timeline for the modern Duke game:
ANNOUNCE -- HYPE -- SILENCE -- SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS -- SILENCE -- SILENCE -- SILENCE... FLATLINE.
Projects either end up dead, released in a poor state, or turn into something else.

As described above, this seems to be an ongoing load of crap relative to Duke Nukem games... SIX handheld games? And we get ONE?! (almost)
Although I don't make TC's, Mods and add-ons etc for Duke Nukem, look at all the incomplete projects even with those. If you look closely, you will see over and over the underlying motivation is misguided, at least in my opinion. They start out strong with "an idea" seemingly "for approval" or seem to come fishing "for motivation" or some other socially based reason... and they seldom finish. The ones that are usually finished are the ones that would be finished even if no one else cares.
The motivation is just one aspect of it, but I relate finishing or not, planning or not, to personal integrity.
I have a lot of respect for all the people here who complete so much, and I mean no disrespect to those who are unable to complete such things, not from lack of motivation, but simply don't have time, which is a different thing all together. Shit happens, yes, but poor planning, lack of professionalism, and low integrity are the reasons I see for most of the "fails"... but I am biased against gemmicky crap anyway.

Lets not forget that game practically killed both Sunstorm Interactive and ARUSH Entertainment. And not because it was a bad game either. Just because it wasn't DNF.

They'll also be seen as a joke company with their claims to the Duke IP, a company that has no idea what they're doing and so on with all the statements they given regarding the Duke IP.
If it is a Duke game however and is a good game, then Interceptor has a great future ahead of them and so does the New 3D Realms.
On the bright side of this not being a Duke game, at least we don't have to worry about Duke being fucked up even more with a dark, gritty and serious make over.
I still think it's a Duke game, because it would be stupid for a young company like Interceptor to waste all their money on Duke development, hiring JSJ and all. Plus the #DukeNukem twitter feed is still linked to the countdown website.

Nevertheless, I hope something positive comes out from all of this. It's been too long since we've had a proper Duke outing (the ports and re-releases don't count).

I used the trademark search system at www.uspto.gov and entered "Apogee Software" in the search field and selected "owner name and address" as the search criteria.

That women picture still not sure she is Bombshell or not, just an " illustration drawing". Since they didn't filed "Bombshell" at all, except a lot of them but already dead long time ago.

The Bombshell trademark with filing date December 15, 2011 is very much live.

Then when the court case is over, IF you win, you release Duke as a playable character in Free DLC, adding him to the world. ORRR you ask for special permission to make him DLC.
That way you get your game out the door and can start working on something else. Instead of creating more delays and waits. You might not get your Duke Game out, but at least you cut your looses and move on, instead of letting it drag you into a bottomless pit of nothingness.
Also the I agree with the Rant of Commando Nukem, cut the crap, it's not fun anymore.

But this time, we're prepared! After examining the image through a hyper-sophisticated array of hyper-advanced image algorithms, I have come to the conclusion that there is, in fact, some sort of thing of some nature in this picture:
Hmm, I guess that didn't clear up as much as I thought it would. But wait! What if I added a few minor enhancements:
Oh my gosh, it's really happening!

And i thought that i was the only one who had tried to remove the blur in that picture.

When it's done!
Stay Tuned!
Few could have predicted...
FUCK YOU. Nah, I take that back. It's not worth it anymore. The point of no return for the Duke franchise was back in mid 2006 when 3D Realms suffered the max exodus of employees. After that there was no real hope. Yet the curse seems to linger over any residual products. The same hype games over and over again.
I also want to preempt any remarks that I am a hater. No I am not. I'm wearing a T-shirt with a Nuke logo on it. I think that proves where my loyalty lies. These games were mildly amusing between 2006 and 2008. They stopped being funny after we were all teary eyed at the demise of 3D Realms. And if you go back into this thread you'll see I was cautiously optimistic regarding this game. Why? Young mind, fresh ideas. New directions. I'm totally fine with that. It's a good thing, even. Given that Duke Forever was almost nothing but nostalgia crossed with modern military shooter DNA. My cautious optimism has rapidly sunk into abject apathy towards any official product. Especially when we cannot even get one. simple. confirmation. What are you hyping? What. Are. You. Hyping? No other company in the history of gaming has acted this way about their game franchises before. This is strictly an Apogee/3D Realms thing.
