I have a feeling Duke probably won't be replaced. It seems it was going to have both Bombshell and Duke in the game, so they just removed Duke. I kind of wonder if they knew there was a chance that Gearbox could attempt to stop the game from the beginning, so they included Bombshell as insurance. Still, some people are probably going to be disappointed. If anyone has been paying attention to the Twitter feed on the site, some people still think it's Duke.

Of course they do, Interceptor's still got Duke Nukem linked to the website.
Still pretty pissed about the idea of no Duke in the game, but this just got me thinking, maybe both Duke & Bombshell are still in the game and since the lawsuit has cause problems around Duke, they've just stopped marketing it as a Duke game with Bombshell in it and instead are marketing it as a Bombshell game, but the game is still actually a Duke Nukem game, they're just putting all focus on Bombshell to ease up the lawsuit or something.
Cause 3DR and Interceptor sure are gonna look like the biggest failures and lairs if they claimed all those rights to Duke in the public eye and then just surrendered.

Few could have predicted... It would only take four goddamn years, a whole lot of heartache, and a half-finished Duke game before we could finally see what that picture actually was.

And hey, it spoils ab-so-lutely nothing. It's not a shot of Las Vegas like I thought, it's a generic tech corridor. Heaven forbid 3D Realms not torture us and just show us the full size picture.

I haven't played DNF in a long time... But for some reason I seem to think that this wasn't even in the game when it came out.

Looks like the vents Duke crawls through in his casino.

How likely would it be for Gearbox to take action against a Bombshell game? I know that 3D Realms owns Bombshell from what I recall, but she was tied into DNF before. It wouldn't surprise me if Gearbox tries to pull something with this, too. Especially if they're aware that it's the same game, but with Duke removed.

@NukemDave

If they pulled Duke, changed the title, and had a very different over all concept to begin with, then Gearbox wouldn't be able to stand in there way... Bombshell is 3D Realms property for certain. That's one of the reasons she was completely excised from the game, and there were definitely places within the game where she was supposed to be. IE: The first time you meet Dylan was supposed to be where Bombshell came into the game. She was supposed to be fighting with you at the dam, etc, and she did exist in the game at one stage, according to the behind the scenes art. If 3D Realms reserved those rights and had her pulled from the game for later use, then Gearbox would have no claim.

I'm venturing a guess, given that it's all pipes, that it took place somewhere in the DAM area. Likely part that was cut from the game. The texture for that Duke model is actually still in DNF. The 2009/Triptych mesh and textures are too, as they have been floating around for some time.

So, i've reached stage 2 of my manic state.

Laugh, cry, and if you're a long timer, maybe even recall. Recall all that struggle and misery. ... And fun and laughter. Yeah, yeah. Ruin my point with facts.

FUCK YOU. Nah, I take that back. It's not worth it anymore. The point of no return for the Duke franchise was back in mid 2006 when 3D Realms suffered the max exodus of employees. After that there was no real hope. Yet the curse seems to linger over any residual products. The same hype games over and over again.

Spoiler

I also want to preempt any remarks that I am a hater. No I am not. I'm wearing a T-shirt with a Nuke logo on it. I think that proves where my loyalty lies. These games were mildly amusing between 2006 and 2008. They stopped being funny after we were all teary eyed at the demise of 3D Realms. And if you go back into this thread you'll see I was cautiously optimistic regarding this game. Why? Young mind, fresh ideas. New directions. I'm totally fine with that. It's a good thing, even. Given that Duke Forever was almost nothing but nostalgia crossed with modern military shooter DNA. My cautious optimism has rapidly sunk into abject apathy towards any official product. Especially when we cannot even get one. simple. confirmation. What are you hyping? What. Are. You. Hyping? No other company in the history of gaming has acted this way about their game franchises before. This is strictly an Apogee/3D Realms thing.

Sigh, that's it. I no longer have any hope for Duke either, it's just become too much of a bad joke. I hate to say this, but it is what it is.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Bombshell's new look was this scene from Leprechaun 3:

I've never even seen the full resolution version of that screenshot. That's hilarious.

DN:MD - if the Name is still correct...

If it's a Duke game with unsatisfied audiences it harms the IP maybe - or the rest of it.
If it's a non Duke title and will became successful it still a bit related to Duke -

Btw: Does JSJ manage the voice of that female?
Aka 50th shades of Duke B)

It's not exactly the same picture, the angle is slightly different. Where did that come from anyway?

It's from the bonus in Duke Nukem Forever when you finish the game.

You well know that 3D Realms is a precious little flower that needs its revolutionary game design concepts protected from the grubby kleptomania of the dog-eat-dog competition.
It's painfully disappointing to see a long-time ardent fan like you turned into such a bitter naysayer, but I'll keep you in my prayers so that this lost sheep may yet be returned to the flock.

In all honesty.

This whole teasing is getting a little annoying. Compare it to a woman that always teases you with her cleavage and tells you that soon you can touch her and then walks away ... the third time you just aren't interested anymore (or drunk).

There's also these two videos in case you haven't seen them (from the DNF extras):

Yeah I saw the videos and bonus footage upon finishing the game, but I don't remember seeing the full sized version of that image among all that.

There's images from as far back as 1999 up to 2009, I believe.

... And if they had just pulled their finger out and finished the damn game, none of this would be happening.

I too have given up on Duke. GBX own everything, don't give a crap, and have banned any and all modding apart from EDuke. It's done.

They couldn't ban Eduke because they don't own Duke 3D, besides the source code has been released.

The Bombshell trademark with filing date December 15, 2011 is very much live.

Yes, I checked again and I found that one, don't know how I were missed that one...

I'm not sure if they can use Duke Nukem in this game if the lawsuit with Gearbox still going... B)

But at least it's a start...right? B)

There is also alternate angles of the strip club scene that was one of the two unlockable screenshots in Duke3D Xbox Arcade.

It dosen't turn EDuke32 into a modern game engine, which is what we want to be able to mod on.

Sooner or later Gearbox has to make another Duke game right? I mean it's not an obscure IP, and with the amount of fuss they're making between them and 3DR about it, if they go for another few years without even announcing anything, then gaming websites might start to take notice and ask questions?

Of course whether that would make any difference, or whether Gearbox's hypothetical next Duke game would be any good is another matter.

True....in the higher-res one, Duke's left gun is clearly concealing his chest area more. I think the picture is from the archived shots found in the bonus content. As Commando Nukem already commented, they date from 1999-2009. Some of those screens are downright fascinating, and leave a lot of unanswered questions.

Now just as Interceptor unexpectedly bought out 3DR, we need them to unexpectedly buy out Gearbox and we'll be good to go Posted Image

If they continue to pump out games in the vein of DNF and A:CM we shouldn't have to wait too long.

counter-point: Borderlands is a money making machine and people just let the DLC roll off into their mouths like a conveyer belt.

What does the countdown website say for you guys? I'm looking on the twitter feed and people are saying there's 17-19 hours left on the countdown.
But when I look it says 1 day and 8 hours.

Is it a region thing or something?
