"NoGumNeeded is a teaser for our next game. We have never officially announced anything in relation to Duke."

Then what the hell is this Frederick?
https://www.facebook.com/dukemassdes

AND that deciphered message, that leaked artwork, the obvious bubblegum teaser site, the bullshit about 3DR still owning Duke, the kinda believable crap about 3DR still retaining the rights to a certain "Duke Nukem Survivor", Interceptor being fully 100% sure they could make this Duke game from the start AND what I already know but won't share.

I guess the alien text, Facebook page and Twitter name were just placeholders? :)

Never officially announced anything in relation to Duke?

That sort of crap is along the same lines as "We never officially claimed that DNF would have mod tools", and we all know the back story with that one...

Hypothetically if they are going to end up releasing a version of Duke Nukem Mass Destruction with Bombshell instead of Duke, then what that means is that they're going to be releasing a Duke game, without Duke's character, and without Duke's genre. Hmmm.

If there's no Duke in it now, then there's no point in relating "gum" to it. I don't know if they're doing that to get back at Gearbox or what, but they're also taking the Duke fans for a ride if they are. Anything that will make the fans think it still contains Duke should be eliminated. I have a good suggestion for a new URL: www.dropthebombshell.com

Inspired by this song:

They still have the opportunity to do something cool for Duke fans by porting Time to Kill, Land of the Babes, and Zero Hour. HD them and give them online multiplayer support. This is what they should be targeting the Duke fans with. This Bombshell game might still be the same game as Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, but if there's no Duke, it's not Duke anymore.

As far as I'm aware, I think they're allowed to port previous Duke games, but not create new content for them. Obviously that includes new maps and things, but IIRC they're not allowed to do HD versions either. I stand to be corrected though.

Well that's no problem. Just let the community do it like they're doing with Duke3D, right?

I'm not sure either. When I said HD, I meant only giving the game new model skins and textures.

That'll work, too, as long as they make it easy for the community to do it.

That's a shame, I was hoping for another Duke Nukem game.

Notice, though, that they never denied that it was a Duke game, only that it hasn't been officially announced. More than likely, though, that's just a scapegoat comment which is true whether they do put Duke in it or not.

So they took GBX to court and pronounced to the world that they still owned the copyright just "4 teh lulz"?

If you went back in time and told someone this would happen, they would flat out laugh their damn ass off

Looking at the website again, the fact that the #dukenukem hashtag is still connected to the websites twitter feed is just more obvious proof that it is Duke related.

Everyone who is still interested in this game, Duke Nukem or not should add ''kyrriscoming'' on snapchat. They are sending small ''teasers'' and pictures of them working on the game.

Thanks Fred and Interceptor. Cool idea! B)

I wish interceptor well, and I hope the game is successful, but honestly, just for pity's sake...

In my honest opinion, the game's target audience that this is targeting..... is not the same audience who uses Snapchat. Devolver Digital tried the same strategy and well, Snapchat uses a point system that you get a point for every photo you send. Their count has been 36 for a long time (yes I use Snapchat).

No one has really missed out on the three things Interceptor have sent out via Snapchat anyway (except for a video of the office with funky music in the background B) ).

First off, DukeNukem64, don't take this long-winded post as a personal attack. My ire over this is omnidirectional and broader than just the contents of your post. If they're serious about this game. If the people who have any say over DUKE NUKEM actually care about this character they will stop giving us the runaround. There are plenty of ways to put out media that aren't totally stupid. Like, ohhh, One of their websites?

Apogee/3D Realms/Interceptor, let's start with a simple point of order. ...Are you making a Duke Nukem game? That shouldn't even be a question I need to ask, but there it is. If you're not, this should be moved to the "General Gaming" section. It would be good for this community, and your game, for everyone to actually know what your game is.

See, on the one hand we have "alloutofgum.com" a story that implies the character of Duke Nukem, and oh yeah, the title "Duke Nukem Mass Destruction." Yet, now we have quotes coming out implying this was never officially announced? Legal issues? What in the holy mother of incompetent half-drunk fuck is going on here?

I think it would do Interceptor/Apogee/3D Realms some good to unify and, if you really want to update the company, shed off the "we're keeping the fans in the dark because reasons" approach that 3D Realms ran under George Broussard. It bred resentment, and bitterness. You want a happy fan base? Then be straight with your fan base.

I still remember when the first footage of Duke Nukem Critical Mass/Trilogy was coming out back in 2008. That overly long still-image graphics trailer? Yeah. Haw haw. Very funny. That was sad. Pathetic. "Look at us, WE R MAKING TEH DUEK GAEMZ!!!" We put a bunch of shit together in Adobe After Effects and slapped it online as a "trailer." "Oh, but that was just a loop for the booth at the convention." Yes, I know that. Then why put it online as a "trailer" when it shows absolutely nothing of the games content? Let's not forget the half-witted promises made during video interviews by Apogee at the time: '...Barring any kind of world disaster the games will come out...' Ah-hah-hah. Hahahaha. Yeah. I guess that's why what finally came out on the DS was a barely-finished, horrendously buggy, and ultimately sub-par title that was universally panned. Instead of the SIX GAMES they wanted to make under the Duke Trilogy banner. I had high hopes for that concept too.

I really have to ask this, as well. What is so hard about not screwing up a Duke Nukem game? DNF should be the anomalous misstep in the series. The character is straightforward. The games he works in are established genres. All manner of shooter. He'll work. Give him some fun to use weapons and gear, some clever and funny one liners, challenging and exciting level design, and an interesting cast of enemies. Boom. I was actually very interested in that last one with regards to DNMD, to see who Duke would be facing off with in this new game. It seemed like it had the potential to bring some new ideas to the franchise. Risky, but interesting. If it isn't the insane need to keep up with tech (DNF) it's budgetary/technical issues (DNCM) or legal voodoo bullshit? (DNMD)

This series has been so wracked by developers and publishers who just can't seem to release jack or shit without huge problems. The last Duke game to come out that didn't eat total crap, was Manhattan Project. That's from 2002. Ever since then it's been re-releases, or projects that have been cut down/stalled out in development limbo.

The sad thing is that the character still has some good will left to him from both critics and fans alike. Why? Because the character, in spite of the people running the show, has an unshakable place in our hearts. Some of us were little kids when we first met Duke, others were going to college. Everyone has a strong memory of the first time they played a Duke game. So, kindly, stop dishonoring his legacy?

So, my point is, don't jerk us around anymore. This community has been jerked around by so many groups over the years regarding this character. Just be straight. If the game is actually Duke Nukem : Mass Destruction, a top down-action RPG, as originally advertised. Then just release that statement and stop with the bullshit. If it's not, then get out there and tell us you're actually making "Extraction Point : Alien Shootout" Starring Cam Nash, who is just a quick reskin of your Duke character model with a goatee and blue camo. Okay? Okay.

Attached Image: CamNash.jpg

NOTE: In case anyone doesn't get the joke. Cam Nash is what Duke turned into when the PSP version of Duke Nukem Critical Mass was floundering before the end. It has nothing to do with whatever Interceptor/Apogee/3D realms are making.

I really hope some of this will actually resonate in the minds of those that actually have the keys, because, in the words of the great AVGN "This... Is some fuck."

As a Duke fan, I would find "nogumneeded" slightly insulting if they have dropped Duke from the game. That's pretty much saying Duke is no longer needed. I would say that they went with that mainly to have a poke at Gearbox, but I still think it's going to end up irritating some fans.

I think that they intended it to he Duke and thought they had legal standing. Yet they announced nothing. Gearbox showed them that they didn't in fact have legal standing. So now as a loophole, because they didn't actually announce it as a Duke game (even though all the content was Duke-related without a doubt), they've changed it to not be a Duke game. My money's on Bombshell.

The reason they can't say whether it's Duke or not could be because they still want this to be a Duke game, and if they can win the lawsuit with Gearbox, they can just continue on like nothing happened and make it a Duke game again. If they lose, Bombshell. They are legally obligate to refrain from saying what this game is/was going to be.

My two cents. It's not so much that they don't want to say anything, it's that they can't.

Well to be fair terminx said that interceptor wasn't lying about holding the rights for a duke game. I also texted Fred and he said that more than one lawyer said that the agreement is valid and they hold certain rights for a (more?) duke game. I believe him. I am afraid that fighting gearbox over this will take forever.. No reason to hate interceptor. I don't think they contacted Jon St. John for fun. Even though 3D Realms made mistakes they are not idiots. I also believe duke nukem survivor is in fact dn:md.

And I believe that 100%. I foresaw something like this probably happening due to being involved in the middle of a not so serious situation with Gearbox (I'm not going to go into detail because I'm under NDA). That was something small, too, so of course they would go after Mass Destruction.

I was just pointing out that Interceptor/3DR need to be careful with how they're hyping their games. Even though they're doing good with the fans by releasing those betas, there will still be some fans who will be upset if they find out Duke is no longer in the game. I'd rather they just come out and say Duke is out, but I guess there's still a chance they might win and get to keep Duke in. I hope so.
