Yes, in case you haven't noticed yet, I am changing lighting. Voxels need to be more lighting neutral than original sprites. It makes sense for sprites to have one side dark and the other bright, as this gives you illusion of depth. But for the voxel models it is not a good idea to keep that logic. Look at Borion voxels. They are not pixel perfect to original sprites. I was doing exactly the same issue at the beginning, trying to have all pixels intact untill Borion told me how it should be done more properly.

Anyway, heh, I intended to do that model.

I meant some details in the highlights, but they are in the original sprite, so it doesn't matter.

By the way are you using only Magicavoxel or other voxel programs too?

Yes, I use MagicaVoxel. What are you using? Don't tell me it's Slab6 :o.

When I began doing this voxel pack I did all with Slab6, It was a pain in the ass, especially the round shapes (and extremely time-consuming).

I discovered Magicavoxel rather recently just before meeting Borion in the Duke Nukem voxel pack thread.

Now I use both Magicavoxel and Slab6. I use Slab6 mostly for pivot fixing and doing quick highlights or shadows (although it is harder to shade large surfaces)

Sure once I get home I will send them.

Well of course I am still using Slab6, but only for KVX format and adjusting offsets. And it is not hard to shade large surfaces if you know tricks ;).

by tricks you mean copy-pasting darker zones in other areas? Or you can shadow a large area by clicking a special option once?

Save specific side as PNG, draw and paint in Photoshop or any other tool and then reapply new PNG for specific side in MagicaVoxel. Heh, I actually couldn't find an option in Magica to export specific side where 1 voxel means 1 pixel in the image (I believe Qubicle has that, but it's a paid tool. I paid for it, used for 10 mins and refunded that, lol), however I figured this out by adjusting camera zoom.

Ingenious, however don´t you have any issue when modifying an image in photoshop and then pasting in Magicavoxel, like the colors or something?

That would be a good option for bigger sprites like the buddha statue.

No because once I am done in Photoshop, I save it as index mode using SW palette. Which limits the palette. If I am not super happy with the end result, either I brush again or change it pixel by pixel. Depending on what kind if fixes I have to perform.

Man, ignore that huge sprite for now. There's plenty of easier sprites to be voxelized. But first, let's fix current voxels to improve overall quality.

Actually are a pain in the ass to make as they have 2 inclinations that even Magicavoxel don´t rotate as I want, here I managed to make one. The one with 3 crystals will be harder.

You know, it's better to touch it NOW instead of in the future. You should really add to the project finished voxels. Besides, it's hard to tell whether they are ready without showing them from every angle as I am showing my voxels.

everything looks really good so far, but the caltrops dont look much like the original sprite

i dont think the caltrops from the item pickup translate well to the sprite of just the caltrops unfortunately. shading and shape and number of pixels are all different

Yes they are whiter and the shape is not as smooth as the voxel I made. If you want I can make one closer to the sprite but won´t look as good IMHO


IMPORTANT:

The gas bomb has glitches in the DOS version, use ports like VoidSW or BuildGDX
