According to DNR, MPRocket and Operation Blazkowitz are the same maps. I even downloaded both and checked, they were the same.

i didn't notice until you mentioned it.

i reviewed it under one title at CGS and Puritan had reviewed it under the other name, Guess things like that are bound to happen when authors release their stuff under various titles and there are too many hands in the review jar. At least the scores were pretty close.
had the same issue with another map at one time as well. (iirc GregR had named 1_bitch something else and it almost got double-uploaded)

Edit : though apparently I'm missing MPWeapon
It's really sad to see the state of the community, I know this map exists but the links on MSDN are dead, it's not on DNR (dead site anyway), not on CGS, and on the dukeworld archive of duke4, I only found it because I was desperate enough to look in the wrong category : it's in the "2001->current" category even though it's from end of 1999, beginning of 2000. Sigh.

take it easy man. i can only go so fast and my todo list is huge.

Speaking of that, I actually want to bring back DNR but only Kim has the keys (Fernandon and Puritan don't have them anymore and their access were limited anyway) and he's nowhere to be found. If anyone knows how to reach him... googling for an Australian "Kim Robinson" is like looking for a specific needle in a haystack, except the haystack is full of similar needles.

why? The upload limit on that site was near max and it would only accept files under 5MB. Just start your own site.

I also have this one sitting in my pile and haven't got around to looking at it yet so I don't know if it's a double title of one of his other levels.

Mikko and the owners of other sites should upload a .zip with all maps/episodes/tcs for the sake of preservation.

if it's a concern then you only need to go back up CGS since all the maps on MSDN (unless Mikko fixes the links to some of the reviews he did on some TCs), and (atm) all but a few projects on DN-R are hosted there
(the actual number is 9 projects, give me a few weeks and those will be done and hosted as well)

Wasn't meant as a criticism, don't take it personally.
The limits is probably something that could be changed even if it means paying more.
Why DNR? Because it has the advantage of already having a huge database, and clean design with an effective search feature. There are things I'd change, other I'd get rid of and others I'd add, but that'd be only if I am given the keys which is very unlikely considering I can't even contact the damn man.

Thanks for the 2 maps. I had never played MPWeapon before either. I've added both to the workshop and the collection. So that makes 12 Pinxten maps in less than 2 years, impressive. Though I have to admit the vast majority of his maps lack some final touches: none of them have custom musics, different difficulty settings, or multiplayer. They are raw SP maps. The Railway Station was even left with a player-killing glitch at the very start of the map, I tried to fix it but for some reasons couldn't (when going underwater, even if both sectors were the same size and shape with the SE in the same placement, the player wouldn't appear in the exact same spot in the other sector no matter what... might be due to the map corruption). I did fix an issue in MPHydro that would prevent the player from going back (and finishing the map..) in one of the pipes.

i didn't take it personally, "state of the community" is sad?
Duke World is long gone and it's database isn't updated, DN-R is dead, and Mikko is sloppy with his file links, but sad?

there are some maps and projects that disappeared and are long gone, but those three sites most likely never had them in the first place, even when they were alive/regularly tended & updated. You can't blame their demise/lack of maintenance for the reason it's inconvenient to find some things. (even if they did have a map at one time and let the link die -mpweapon- most of the things they hosted can easily be found)

iirc, Puritan offered to take over DN-R after Kim let it's renewal subscription expire for the up-teenth time. Kim said no - sentimental reasons-
That's why Puritan started CGS
but Kim did give (or offered to give) Puritan a backup of the database holding all the hosted files and permission to use all the reviews for CGS
-Puritan chose not to use Kim's personal reviews - he wanted some distinction between the two sites, but he did use those written by everyone else (after asking their for permission first of course)

why not try to take over the dukeworld database, give it a front page for reviews, and start updating it?

Oh come the fuck on. "Sentimental reasons : I like my site so much I'd rather let it die which stabs the small community in the chest rather than have someone else keep it alive; even though having other people put stuff on the site isn't the problem since I already let 2 people do that"

That's just bullshit. 'Sentimental reasons' doesn't make any sense.

It's Kim's site. He created it (twice), so it's his 'baby'.
Same thing happened to DukeWorld (more or less).
I suppose it would be like asking Mikko to take over MSDN if he decided to let that site die. You'd probably get the same answer.

what makes sense to a third person's point of view doesn't necessarily reflect someone's feelings about what they created despite the repercussions of their decisions of what they decide to do with it.

it's been near three years since DN-R went static. He's obviously been paying the electric bill annually so he is maintaining some awareness of the site's existence. Maybe he can be persuaded to reconsider. If you can get ahold of him.

I think CGS is fine and dandy, I have showed a lot of my friends the place and they love it. Especially how it's up to date, and even including some maps from steam workshop. I guess people like to know things are up to date. Plus not to mention I personally think you (Forge) do a really good job reviewing and scoring the maps, so do my friends. I tend to agree with the scoring, possibly looking for the same things in maps who knows. But just because most my friends don't join the forums doesn't mean there not visiting that site. They just aren't much for talking rather just play play but CGS It's become quite popular in my circles.

I also think the community is so divided it's crazy, this is a similar situation to those who would rather stay on meltdown or yang then come and play Megaton the place where everyone is at. Instead they rather complain and stay where they are. I played Meltdown a 4 player match, guess what happened... it lagged. So I don't want to hear about how Megaton lags when they all do.

CGS is fine, but there are things that could be improved. (like someone training me how to DM)

putting aside reviews and other content, it's one of the better repositories,

it has about 950 projects hosted - not counting the 30 sitting in Puritan's inbox atm (i've had a bit of free time)
compared to DN-R's around 650

and if somebody suggests a project to be hosted (within reason - usually size related) then they get listened to

The uploading continues with 3 more maps: Morpheus by Fakir, Sewers and Strippers by Fakir&Highwire, We Store Your Crap Remix by Fakir&Kevin Cools, which you can all find in the Fakir Maps Collection

I'll take a break from here as I'm probably uploading stuff quicker than people can play them! Though I'd love to upload MRCK's work, but since some of them use new con and stuff (and there might be some EDuke32 only stuff in his work as well), some decisions have to be taken by himself.

The great thing about uploading maps on the workshop is that you have to pick out of 18 years of mapping. When looking at it from that angle, DN3D had it really good, it's amazing the amount of quality maps there are.

You helped with the map fixes, too. It wasn't just Rumble. It started out with just Rumble and then you. And then I had Duke64 help at the very end. Even if you think you don't deserve to be on there for testing, you still deserve to be for pointing out all the problems in the game in those videos you make.

you know what people that counts as a lie I wasn't even use nice lie dave anymore you want to add huh just keep it up

You were a big help when it came to both testing multiplayer and testing the expansion pack maps. If you go and read it, we're listed under "Multiplayer Testing". We all equally tested the multiplayer together, so you're not making much sense. Yes, I started out with just MrRumbleRoses testing the expansion pack maps in Duke Caribbean, but you still helped a lot in the other two expansions. You should consider it a privilege to be in the credits. You're making too big of a deal about this and this isn't the thread to be posting about it in. If you didn't want to be credited, you should have said so in the beginning. You gave your name to be put in the credits and you were added. I'm sure Termit doesn't want to play around adding and removing people from the credits.

Liar I wasn't even it the expansion packs I did do the testing that termit gave us and that it nothing more so stop your lying wish I was never part of the team to begin with

You must have short-term memory loss because if you remember, I had to have more than two people several times to test those maps. I actually needed even more people than that to make sure there were no issues with any of the spawn points. I suppose MrRumbleRoses just split into two people and made the third person who helped me then? :)

Exactly. You did the multiplayer testing with us. The tests we had to do required all three of us to execute and that's really all that we're credited for in the credits, so I fail to see the issue. I think you just have an issue with things staying the same for too long, seeing that you have made multiple accounts on these forums. And I haven't even kept count of how many YouTube channels you've had. Now you're doing the same thing on Facebook? :)

probably about as much as people who try to read your posts wish you'd learn to use punctuation.

On top of the 4 maps that have just been released on the forum, Merchant (author of Lizardeos which I'm sure I mentioned earlier itt) has released a new map as well:

It looks fairly blocky judging from the screenshots though.

It's a bit blocky indeed, and though it could definitly use more polish the design is overall good.
The problem I had is that I kept running in annoying glitches. One of the door wouldn't even open. I gave up and wait hoping things will get fixed.
Overall I'd say it looks better than his previous map, I played 35mins (the map is fairly long) without getting bored.

Edit: the mapper doesn't seem to believe me with the glitches I mentioned and apparently thinks I don't know the game enough. I mean come the fuck on, when you can pick up a freezer+ammo you're not supposed to from being a glass, you know a map hasn't been properly tested and polished (and that's the most minor of the issues i've found)

I'm trying to uploaded a map and I'm not getting anything. Everything says it works properly during the upload, but then the ID number of the map is MUCH longer than it should and nothing appears in the workshop. I've tried 3 times.

Has this ever happened to anyone else, Any idea?

Edit : i've deleted the map folder, created it again, and now it worked

Although I'm not much into Megaton myself, I appreciate being informed about new additions to the workshop. It means less work for me completing my map collection. :) Please leave a note somewhere (like with siebenpolis) when an upload got modified for Megaton WS release.

Steam workshop has a new layout :) pretty cool looking to more clean cut. Of course I figured out clicking on the side tabs you can easily go to the normal view.

The only real difference is that you can now sort maps by several degrees of 'most popular' (all time, last year, last 6 months, last 3 months, last week, today).

This at least makes things a little more fair to maps released recently. At least, maps that were there firsts in there might diseappear from the top of some categories after a while.

That's probably a good thing overall. Some of those really early maps were quite crap and were only only rated highly because they were "baby's first user map" and a lot of people on there probably wouldn't have played many user maps before hence had no standards. Sands of Time and others come to mind.

On the contrary I think it's a great map
