I don't think it matters how many people play the game. It matters how much you want to make a guide. And if the guide is already made, why not upload it to this site?

Because you probably won't get the permission to do so.

DNF killed this place. I miss the community and all of it's butthurt faggotry :( .

Let's put porn on the front page to get more visitors. And Goatse.

Naw but we should boost the user count responsibly.

Could the description for the "user maps and level editing" section be changed to make it more obvious that the place is more geared towards actual map releases? When the section was initially created I thought the intention was to have all the map releases easily accessible and in one place, but over time there have been quite a few question threads in there cluttering the place up, and making it a lot harder to quickly find threads containing quality maps. I mean we already have a "help me" section that's perfectly suited to mapster32 question threads, so why not try to have them all in there? It just makes more sense to have the question threads in the "help me" section and the map releases in the "user map" section rather than have the help me threads all over the place. Just a suggestion Posted Image

^ yep, the community is certainly big enough. I suggest to split the editing Sections in three, mapping help and con help and new maps. That way, I can search for others cons, just focus on maps or just look for the latest cool maps. Right now I am looking for con help. Were to post?

Well, the problem I envision with what you are proposing is that lots of people will post things in the wrong thread.

The file extension crashlog needs to be allowed for attachments (and maybe esv from saved games, too).

Something I've noticed but have not been bothered enough until now to say anything about is that the links aren't distinct enough from the regular text. It makes it if you add links with text rather than http://....

Generally I think it should be a blacklist instead of the other way around. So no explicit exe's, dll's etc. (not that this is really a security measure), but allow everything else.

I'd really like to see a "rememeber post" or a tagging feature. It happens quite often that I know I'll want to reply to a particular post at a later time, but when that happens I'm unable to find it, and the search system is of no help then, either. Concretely, now I'd like to find Fox's post where he asks about the workings of fogpal (searching that term gives no results!) because he wants to make a full-screen palette effect.

No clue if this helps you or not (you are talking fogpal today at Polymer thread already), opening the extended search page (click on the wheel besides Topic; top right) I typed 'palette', author = Fox and display as posts, that gave me the following hits

True, doing the extended search for "fogpal" gives more results than from the quick search bar when searching for the same keyword in "FORUMS". Why?

Also, what language do the current code blocks assume? More generic syntax highlighting would be pretty cool for embedding CON, for example.

edit: I'm stupid. I needed to have specified "all forums" instead of "this forum". The problem was me thinking that "this forum" = Duke4.net. <_<

Not sure if you asked me, I have a wonderful hang-over

Still to answer your question, this is done with the prettyprint class
http://google-code-p...unk/README.html
as with most stuff, you simply determine which key word is how highlighted. Anyone with access to the forum can do it. Posted Image

Duke 3D shareware Classic Renderer built right into a section of the site like a flash game. Probably not legal? Also probably a gargantuan amount of effort in programming that I'm blissfully-unaware of. I know - I'm a dreamer.

How about extending the rep system so that there's a Member of The Week/Month (whoever got the most +1s)? I suppose this might be open to abuse.

If you were to implement a system of "Poster of the Week" it should be based on a "+1s" to posts ratio. Posting 50 posts in a week and getting a +1 on half of them doesn't make you a better poster than posting 5 posts and getting 2 +1s on each.

^Then there should be a ratio(instead of reputation) for all posts, not just for the week.

Yes, there should be. That would be a better way to judge people...if you are into judging people.

However, the formula for such a thing would have to be pretty complex considering + and - votes. You can't divide by zero either.

It shouldn't be anything more than a bit of fun. It could even take the seriousness out of the rep system. Just a bit of a laugh at the end of each week. There could be a worst member of the week award, too. I don't know, the whole thing is probably more hassle than it's worth. You'd get certain people posting uncharacteristically just to get more thumbs. Which would be kind of annoying.

Well, while site is called duke4.net right now DNF is pretty much dead. Also modding forums have more activity.

I think there is a limit to the number of times you can change your name a month or whatever.

There is no reason for DNF to be on top of the forum. The admins probably have good reason to move it down (like that it isn't as active as the eDuke32 threads).

DNF is dead already, no point in beating a dead horse if Gearbox aint going to release any tools to edit the game.

I know the mod sections are more active, but I just find a bit jarring, to not see the DNF section at the top is all.

Sort of depressing, that is true, but I believe this community is growing again and DNF should take second place.

A little humour from a while ago and also a permanent signal to the current holders of the Duke Franchise.

Discuss the DNF modifications that never were and the editing issues that will never be.

We all have overall reputation "score" under our avatars. Why not make it linked to page http://forums.duke4....tab__reputation (not mine, but you get the idea)? Pretty logical to have it opened if you click on reputation.

Good question. I think it's a Youtube limitation when it comes to forums?

Requesting a "watch post" feature again which would be very handy to keep track of bug reports and the like.

My suggestion is that if Duke4.net is in fact a Duke Nukem fansite, it should be more like one. IMO Duke4.net looks more like a Duke Nukem 3D fansite rather than Duke Nukem fansite right now.

A whole lot of other fansites and fan forums I've seen have their own separate sections for each entry in the franchise, I suggest adding more sections in the Duke Nukem General Discussion Area, things like:

Main Series:
-Duke Nukem 1 General Discussion
-Duke Nukem 2 General Discussion
-Duke Nukem 3D General Discussion (Add a Sub-section for Duke3Ds add on packs discussion)
-Duke Nukem Forever General Discussion

Spin Offs:
-Duke Nukem Total Meltdown General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Time to Kill General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Land of the Babes General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Zero Hour General Discussion
-Duke Nukem 64 General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Manhattan Project General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Advance General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Color General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Critical Mass General Discussion

Other Duke Discussions:
-Duke Begins General Discussion
-Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded General Discussion
-Duke Nukem Trilogy General Discussion

This would make things a lot better since there are some Duke Nukem fans who want to discuss more than just Duke Nukem 3D mods, also these different sections would make it easier to track down specific topics for a certain Duke game rather than wasting time searching through just the 2 DNF and Duke General Discussion sections.

Just my suggestion.
