There is already a popularity rating for topics. It consists of number of views and posts.

Perhaps I should have said "Popular, high quality". A topic can be high quality with low posts/views; a topic can be poor quality with high posts/views.

Well, the rating for a topic will certainly be interesting feature to have.

I know this may be beating a dead horse, but this site should extend it's hosting of Duke3D user maps to include reviews and ratings. , DN-R is doomed due to Kim's lack of maintenance. Mikko's site is great, but there's something to be said about putting all of the eggs into one basket.

Who will do the reviews?

p.s. DN-R should move here, not as competition to Eduke but as an alternate source for Duke.

The players submit reviews. Same as DN-R.

DN-R won't move here. Kim's letting the site go to the wayside. Every couple of years it disappears until he remembers to renew the hosting; that's all he does. One of these years it's going to disappear for good.

I'm working on something. Community map/mod/code site with desktop client and a whole mess of other stuff. I'm going to post my design plans this weekend. Already started preliminary coding (look at my post in the Downloading HRP with TortoiseSVN topic) and have a tool that can download and update the HRP.

Hank is still working on a project to realize that.

This has always been the plan: http://forums.duke4....7744#entry17744

Yes, and it will be done! But, I underestimated the 'simple' script' languages. My summer courses will be complete in mid July, and the first sample two weeks after that.
Still, if DN-R would move here, instead of becoming competition to each other we would join forces. Posted Image But ... either way.

What languages? Do you know PHP? That's what I've been making my software with. Surprisingly easy.

AJAX – it's not a language. If you want to do it right, you need to seamlessly instruct browser and server to interact with the surfer on real time and maintain security. As I wrote before, I underestimated this, yet never give up either. Posted Image

Also, all the best to your own project - cheers mate - Posted Image

competition? in what? lack of active members?

DN-R is a dead site. It just doesn't know it yet.

Tx should archive it now while it's still active.

I'm talking the vast sorted content there.
But if everyone is in agreement, yes, TX should start his magic as well. And this is selfish, all my good maps are there. Posted Image

The Dukeworld directory has a large content of material, it's just not organized in a user friendly, easily browsed manner

Well, I still have the archive I made last time the registration lapsed at http://dnr.duke4.net/

Yes, but we got a lot of new maps also, well since I got back since October, it would be shame those get lost. Posted Image

Only the ones released between the time I sent my torrent to Tx and the present. I believe Mikko has posted the majority of those to his site, so I wouldn't worry too much about losing alot when DN-R goes the way of the Dodo.

I endorse this. There should be a Duke Facepalm at best case...but at least a generic facepalm or a Picard.

The server handling the main site has been upgraded. Specs:

Quad Core Xeon 5430
4x2.66ghz
500gb hdd (raid 1)
8gb ram
1000Mbit port
in Dallas, Texas

(though it gets tracked as being in Utah. hmm....)

Don't have that info handy, but I think it was somewhat less powerful before.

Will this site have a proper DNF section with walkthroughs, hints and so on? For example, an achievement guide would be great. I think people here would be willing to contribute.

Edit: Just seems a bit odd that this could be considered the main DNF fan page and there's hardly any relevant content except for news.

Walkthroughs aren't as crucial for DNF as they were for Duke Nukem 3D. For example, I got stuck in Death Row (only level 3) because I couldn't figure out to go behind the babe poster. I also remember getting stuck at the start of Duke Burger, and a few other places. In DNF, with its incredibly linear levels combined with game hints, it's incredibly hard to get stuck, especially if you're already familiar with Duke.

*cough* Area with blue barrels that are needed to put on crane *cough*

Ok point taken Posted Image
The reason I didn't spot that was because we aleady did the physics see-saw barrel puzzle earlier in the game. I didn't expect them to recycle puzzles, especially bad ones. Not to mention you have to move around the entire area before the triggered sequence with the scissor lift comes in. Imo the only good puzzle in the game that was worthy of DNF was the wrecking ball. Everything else was either taken from half life, half life 2, or even Shadow warrior back in 1997 (I might as well mention COD and Halo at this point :( )

There are already complete video playthroughs of DNF that people can look up on youtube if they get really stuck.

It doesn't matter if those tips are available elsewhere. This should be considered the "first destination" when it comes to DNF related topics.

If you didn't need a walkthrough, then great (generally speaking games are designed so that they should be beatable without one), but howabout something like an "ego reward" guide that details every ego reward in the game?

Some people needed help with things like finding all the beers in titty city which even I missed at least one there and looked up a hint and although it didn't totally exactly tell me where the final beer I was missing was I at least got a general idea\more of a clue from it. So you never know what a person might need help with that might look something up in a guide and get use out of it.

You raise a good point. We need content writers or else I'll need to tap into third party resources like the Youtube walkthroughs that have been alluded to in this thread in order to fill up content pages.

That being said, I think we'd all have been more hasty to work on content page for DNF if there was greater demand for them.

What you want is fine but you also have to keep in mind that the things you want usually come naturally when people are motivated by the respective game.
Maybe the reason why such things don't exist for this game is because it can't sustain it's fan's interest anymore due to lack of any form of community support or tools from gerabox.
Don't know about you but when I think about the DNF community these days, this image comes to my mind.
