Love this damn game...really good...feel like a prequel(from SW classic)...

Oh, finally we have characters of Chinese(Simplified) in the SW universe!

So the language is Chinese? I don't get it then, is the game meant to be set in Japan or China, and if Japan, why use the chinese language?

Also, can you understand the symbols floating around Lo Wang's hand when he casts spells? That would be pretty cool Posted Image

I have finished the first two chapters so far and I like it a lot. What amazes me are the detailled visuals with amazing color schemes. Finally I notice that I bought a good monitor and a Geforce 670! Animations are smooth as silk, and while gameplay is remarkably brutal, it's highly enjoyable and rewarding to see mobs "coming apart", as Lo Wang would say. :P

The upgrade system is also more complex than I would have expected, considering there are three different ways to improve your char (powers, skills, weapons). Combined with the secret areas which are quite rewarding, replayability factor is quite high already.

Maybe humor is not the same as in the original game but I don't mind a different approach after such a long time, and after all it's meant to be different in general. Oh, and if anyone is complaining about the 2D sprites occasionally used in the game, those guys have probably never played the original SW or they would understand those are respectful quotes from the predecessor and quite obviously meant as such. Putting them where they are was and is a great idea and I have a lot of fun finding the old sprites again (especially after just having finished replaying the original on Steam).

I have already enjoyed Hard Reset before, but SW is definitely topping it off. Devs have accomplished creating a product that certainly doesn't need to hide from any competitors, and the first sale numbers confirm this assumption. It's a well-earned success, and personally I wish the guys all the best, hoping they will continue their success story, possibly reviving other classics in a similar manner.

I do miss some humor from the original.

One of my favorites which would have fit perfectly in this one with the sword "You half the man you used to be!"

If anyone doesn't own the game on Steam yet I have a spare 10% off coupon I can trade, no charge unless you have anything in your inventory you want to unload.

I think Lo Wang in this game can speak slightly better than that Lo Wang though so I think it wouldn't sound as funny.

Turning off Color Grading gave me a boost in fps, plus I think the game looks way better without it.

Could you post a couple of pics with colour grading turned off?
I think this game has some graphics potential, but the the colour scheme (and the bloom) makes it look worse than a Michael Bay film.

I remember watching a video playthrough, and when the guy came across a 2D babe sprite, he thought it was weird, but guessed it was "probably in the original or something", so it's probably not too bad. At least they're in secret areas and not out in the open.

The good thing about the replayability, is that the combat itself is just so good and more importantly, extremely varied. Like they say in the trailers, you can do it all with the sword, or all with the the guns, or a mixture of both. For example, I'm using the sword mostly because the weapons are pretty weak at the start, but when I play it again keeping my upgrades, I'll probably use the guns a lot more, and as a result, have a different experience. It helps that the levels aren't a straight corridor, and that there are sometimes different paths to take, and areas where you come back to where you were previously.

What do we know as fact about the game's sales btw?

Here are some screenshots.
Top - Colour Grading On
Bottom - Colour Grading Off

Spoiler

I also recommend turning off Depth Of Blur, for obvious reasons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanji

SW just in a world that based on Japan and some Asian countries since the original one, I guess it's more Japanese than Chinese, even the name Lo Wang is more like a Chinese name.
Many signs in this game with Chinese characters on it looks like Japanese Kanji but if you ask me, I think they look like Traditional Chinese too...at least some of them are Kanji for sure, like "市役所" = City Hall.

Even that, when I saw that sign all over the place on chapter 7 and 8, I'm just confuse...because I'm sure those characters are S-Chinese, the Kanji one would be looks more different. :P

Yeah, when the Japanese Kanji was based on ancient Chinese(but not the current simplify Chinese characters using in China), I'm not sure why they used S-Chinese on the those signs in chapter 7 and 8, maybe they didn't know that's Chinese, not Japanese Kanji...or...whatever, they're looks all alike for whose didn't know about Japanese and Chinese. Not even the T-Chinese(used on Taiwan & HK) and S-Chinese(China mostly)... :P

They looks like Japanese Kanji or Traditional Chinese, showed the name of spell you casting(matched the Kanji showed on the skills screen), but considering the setting on the game, it's most likely the former one, but only the developer knows. :P

Also their means matched with the effects in most cases, except some of them...

I had to take a break, since combat fatigue was setting in a bit. I'm eating all the words I said earlier in this thread gladly, the game easily stands on it's own and has enough spiritual references to the original as well. I do think the alt-fires on the guns should be unlocked by default however...I'm on chapter 11 and I probably won't get enough cash to unlock more than 1 more of the expensive upgrades. Lo Wang's a really good character as well...I'm hoping we'll get further adventures with him (either as a sequal or DLC, whatever)

Definitely going to give this a more in depth playthrough when I upgrade this PC's graphics card.

Just beat it, I thought it was fantastic.

Ok these reviews are seriously annoying me though. So many complaining that the game drags on and that the plot isn't interesting when they praise other game's plots that ironically aren't nearly as thought out, and citing how fps games have "evolved" since the 90s.

Yeah maybe FPS games aren't the same today as they were back then, but I find it ironic that things they criticize about this game are things plenty of "good" games do, like moving you from one arena to the next. Sure the game isn't perfect, but it's hardly deserving of a 6.0 just because they feel it has too much in common with a 90s shooter (and apparently a normal length game is too long now)

I know I shouldn't get so annoyed at mainstream reviews but I want this game to get some better publicity, and I feel like this is the one of the few places where anybody has even played it.

Also those
Spoiler

You more than likely won't get all the upgrades on the first run which is why EX Mode is there.

In the later parts of the game, the money I was getting were extremely small amounts. Most of the money I was picking up in the last few levels gave me less than 10! WTF!? Near the start it was giving me an average of 30. Did anyone notice this? It's like the game wanted me to stop upgrading weapons Posted Image

http://www.ign.com/a...-warrior-review An 8.6 from IGN's Dan Stapleton.
Tons of point I don't agree with him on (the graphics failing to impress - did we play the same game?) but it's nice to see some mainstream love for the game.

I personally wouldn't pay any attention to the 6.0 reviews. It's like those people who vote something one star out of five just because they didn't like one thing about a particular item they bought.

Well I'm not going to ofc, but it just irks me is all, like GT giving it a 6 when a lot of people look at GT.

I am quite pleasantly surprised that IGN gave it an 8.6. That's...odd coming from them.

The reviewer was a former PC Gamer writer and the EIC of Gamespy, so that might explain it. He was also one of the only guys to give DNF a positive review (80%). Gamespot gives it 70%. http://www.gamespot....review-6415219/ The same reviewer gave DNF a 30% I think.

That Shadow Warrior only took 18 months to make is very impressive. Especially considering Flying Wild Hog are working on another project concurrently with Shadow Warrior (although that might be in the conceptual stage). Does anyone think it's going to be a Hard Reset sequel? HR: Dying City posters are seen throughout SW. I would be kinda bummed to return to that world after how awesome and fun SW is. Unless they seriously overhaul the experience in some major way and add more personality to the world, I think it'll be a bit of mistake especially coming off such a strong project. They'll want to do it, because FWH own the property, and although the licencing agreement with 3DR and D.D. would likely be developer favourable, it wouldn't compare to a property they wholly own.

I hope they release at least one substantial expansion pack. The ending leaves a few opportunities for more adventures.

Yeah, It made a little more sense when I read the review and saw his name and remembered "hey, that was that PC gamer guy who used to write articles when my dad got the magazine way back"

I wonder if FWH could pull off another one with level design more akin to Duke 3D/SWClassic. Though if they did the game would probably get criticized for lack of direction.

Back on the topic of the current game, I am really surprised just how much I enjoyed this game. I'll probably be doing a lot of replays in the future for sure, especially since they have the Ex and Heroic modes.

I just realised there are no underwater sections in this game, you can't swim at all.
The only area I can think of at the moment with deep water was in Lo Wangs secret hideout, and you just fall though and die instantly if you jump into the water.
Seems like the only thing that was missing from this game.

I noticed this yesterday, it's not strange for now since most games lack underwater sections. I would argue that it's a shame but then I remember DNF's awful water sections and remember it's not actually a bad thing they're gone.

One thing I will say is disapointing is that there's lots of invisible walls in places that look like you can jump them easily. Lo Wang's jumping height is HUGE (unless it's a bug or something) but many places that look like I can reach them (and find a secret) stop me from moving. I imagine it's an engine limit, the door loading screens suggest it can't load really big levels but it's still a bit of a shame.

Also no word of an SDK I guess? That's also a shame since they made the gameplay so good but it will limit the lifespan of this game unless they patch in either multiplayer or some kind of horde/arena mode.

Hmm, the game looks amazing but it does re-use alot of assets. I don't mind it and they were clever to hide it by making the time of day noticably pass as you go through an episode but eventually you do realise you're searching the same vague Ikea-like cupboard for money at the end of the game as you was in the first part of the game.

I heard/read them talk about an SDK earlier this year. Unfortunately the post is hidden now under tons of other posts of some classic SW-keys not working. It was on FB, so it is of not much use to look for the link. But IIRC they said something along the lines that the SDK would be added later.

I doubt we will get MP though. HR didn't have it and SW doesn't either. So I guess the engine is not ready for it (yet?).

EDIT:
But I could live with a SP-Horde mode, where you gain money and skill the longer you survive to upgrade. It could be set in Master Leeb's dojo (who spawns and controls the monsters for your training) ... you now, as transition from the new to the classic SW. :P

EDIT 2:
Important. If you want the devs to change the balance of the weapons, increase money, etc (all complaints/issues I read about here in this forum) ... you can take part in the discussion, if you have a Steam Account.
