There are 17 chapters, you can tell when you go to the load screen and choose which chapter you want to load from.

I'm currently on chapter 11 myself.

I didn't really laugh much at the humor at first but I think the banter between hoji and wang is pretty good a bit later.

Also the line when you pick up the RL :P

I wish the gun sounds were louder though, the katana slices are oddly more audible than some of them

Just finished the campaign on hard. Steam says it took me 15 hours. The second last level has a fight is just brutal - I thought I would have to restart the level and conserve my ammo more! Really impressive game from Flying Wild Hog. I will post more detailed thoughts later, but I thought D.D. and FHW did a fantastic job with the story, tone and combat. It's such a fun shooter!

Played what I could, unfortunately while the game looked pretty amazing even at low settings my card can't run it at a playable framerate. I managed to get to the second level and decided I was doing the game a disservice by playing it in the barely 10 digit range.

Is the game really so poorly optimized? I noticed you were playing Skyrim some days ago and one would expect it to be harder on any system than a linear fps.

Yeah. If you interrupt coitus, you get a pissed off rabbit.

Really impressed with this game, besides the fact that this is not the same old Lo Wang.
Still alot of fun.

Found some useful console commands.

These can be used to toggle specific post-processing effects.

pp_dof_enable 1/0 (Depth of field effect.)
pp_blur_enable 1/0 (Background blur effect.)
pp_film_grain_enable 1/0 (Film grain effect.)
pp_glow_enable 1/0 (Bloom effect.)
pp_sharpen_enable 1/0 (Sharpening effect.)
pp_screen_blur_enable 1/0 (Screen blur effect.)
pp_radial_blur_enable 1/0 (Radial blur effect.)

pp_sun_shafts_enable
pp_color_grading_enable

pp_ca_enable

Turning off Color Grading gave me a boost in fps, plus I think the game looks way better without it.

I run a fairly high end system (i7 2600K @ 4.5 GHz, GTX 670 4 GB), and my FPS has been between 30-40 in some places. Might just be my settings, but I don't know. I have everything on Ultra. If there's one thing which will lower FPS, might be the shadows. I'd suggest turning those down first. I've had other games with really high shadow settings and my FPS will stutter.

Turn off mirrors if you have FPS issues in some areas, especially on maps with water or wet surfaces it will basically kill more than half your FPS

It's a real blast. You'll love it. For framerate issues, I have mine capped at 55 FPS with Nvidia Inspector (or Radeon equivalent). No issues.

God even without the quad barrels the firestorm upgrade makes the shotty so fun. It's like the DBS from doom 2 all over again.

Minotaurs are almost like mini bosses, or perhaps I'm going at them using the wrong strategy. I'm trying to shoot the thing on their backs, but I was battling two of them for about 10 minutes or so. Is that normal?

Yep. I found them to be the hardest enemy in game and that's a really tough battle. Try to isolate one of them and just keep it at a distance until it rages out (slams the ground) and quickly nip behind him and blast him with all four shotgun barrels or a charged up katana attack. Keep ducking behind the geometry, and don't let them charge you. It will take about 4-5 shots of a quad barrelled shotgun to take one of them down. When there's just one, they're fine, but two can be very frustrating. If you have the second wind-style ability, I would try to keep a couple of weak demons alive just so you can replenish you're health if you get in big trouble.

Regarding Minotaurs: If you have a precise Machinegun (upgraded with laserpointer) you can shoot them from the front if you are not too close. You see a small part of their red backs then from the front at the top.
And when shooting them you see from the splashes that you weaken them a bit from there.

I also think that rockets from the front causes spalsh damage on their backs*.

*) I deliberately tried one on of the later monitaurs to see if it works, as I found them very hard too. But I was so involved in continueing and playing the final chapters that I didn't care about the experiment any further and now I am only 98% sure it works. Will try again later with a saved game.

I'm surprised at how much quality is in this game for something that's not a major AAA title.

The graphics are good, the voice acting is good, the animations are good, the gameplay is not only good but feels extremely fluid and polished, and it almost feels like a big release, except I'm having way more fun than most big FPS releases.

I fully agree. And ... I would gladly pay $15 more for 2 or 3 good multiplayer modes and an SDK/Editor. Viola, full price game. Although from a marketing point of view it might be better to sell it cheaper initially (due to oldschool gameplay that isn't COD-clone #612344324 and release MP and Editor later as DLC).

Hmmm, thinking about it, I could also very well live with a game that removes the melee and replaces that with some other guns, that adds a few suggestive themes here and there, adds a bit more interactivity and some more city levels (like in Hard Reset) ... then maybe some enemies in non-arena fights that shoot you from a distance or so on your way through the levels ... then replace Lo Wang with a blonde guy and replace the voice actor with John St. John. Done ... :P

(And weapons like the Freezer and Schrinker would work even better in the arena fights, because in the chaos there the frozen and shrunken enemies are more likely to be crashed or stepped upon in the heat of the firefights.Even by the other enemies.)

One can dream ... :P

It's actually a lot closer to the original than I thought it would be. The main difference IMO is that the focus has shifted somewhat from the guns in combat to sword play and special powers using an RPG-like upgrade system. The sword and special power focus isn't a bad thing, it's definitely really fun, and the upgrade system is a huge step up from what there was in Hard Reset. Level design is also less linear than I expected, and slightly less linear than Hard Reset.

I'd call it a mix of 45% Shadow Warrior Classic, 40% Hard Reset (the best aspects of it though), and 15% Serious Sam (in how it feels like at times when there are loads of enemies on screen).

It's pretty much identical to Painkiller but with more fun weapons.

Uhm. I would say 70% HR, and 15% for the 2 others.
Not that i don't like the game, but it just seems. Well It seems as they took HR maps and put new enviroments in it. I don't understand the hype in here, i would never pay 40$ for this game. for 15-20 it would be fair. I guess it's because of steam sales they made it so god damn expensive.

I'd say Micky is pretty much spot on.
It also reminded me a bit of later Raven shooters ie as Singularity and Wolfenstein 2009, but I'm not really sure why.

Shadow warrior is definitely more visually complex than Skyrim, from what little I know Skyrim still shares the same engine as Oblivion's just with some extra bells and whistles (it does have some real time shadows, but only up to a certain distance) I managed to play SW a bit more but hit a cave system and had to stop since performance was unplayable. I don't blame the game though since I'm using a GT210 which costs like £18 pounds new.

I was thinking the same. One of the one liners I really liked was " Would you like cake or death? (I should probably mention we are out of cake)", that made me laugh. It's the best modern fps game I've played so far. We would be lucky if these guys got their hands on Blood. I think they have shown that they most capable, now if only someone could make Randy cough up the Duke IP....

And they did game references right (instead of putting other games down like in DNF) ... you know, when you ride the tram, for example. I died in that section, though, cause i was listening instead of killing. :P

Also:

Version 1.0.2 is out (on Steam at least. Don't know about GoG or others).

Shadow Warrior Patch Notes:

Shadow Warrior 1.0.2
- Fixed many crashes.
- Gozu freeze bug fixed.
- Troll shield now always breaks after troll's death.
- Custom katana selection hack blocked.
- Fixed several places through the game where players could get stuck or fall below level geometry.
- Safe mode added.
- Language packs added.
