I had no clue that IRL John Galt is a black belt in both Kung Fu and Taekwondo.
He also voiced President LBJ in both Forrest Gump and Oliver Stone's JFK....albeit not in his Lo Wang accent/dialect.

I got a total non-answer from Scott Miller on whether John Galt was involved or not.
I've very much of two minds about this project right now. Shadow Warrior was never my favorite game in the world, but I did like it. I think that the original holds a lot of potential for expansion and fleshing out a bit more in a next gen world. (I Always felt the ninja elements were somewhat underdeveloped and could see a better melee system coming into play for the sword and ninja-centric weaponry.)
But, seriously, if they don't have the right voice behind Lo Wang... No matter their "new take." I will consider this D.O.A.
Also, apparently this game isn't going to just be rad, but "Super fucking rad" or something according to a recent tweet. Hm.

Just the black belt is not such a big deal.

Seeing as the actor is 73 years old it seems reasonable. I don't really care that much to be honest as long as the game is great, there are not enough fps games with swords, there can never be enough.
It sounds ultra violent so that's cool.
"inventive level design" Was good to hear, but I wonder what that means nowadays.

I bet that they won't reproduce, because unlike slashing off your opponents' heads, reproducing bunnies are a no go nowadays, it seems.
Inventive level design ... hm, I smell marketing buzz for something completely normal.

Probably, but it is reassuring that they seem to know what the fans of the original want apart from the so called racism.
I am keeping my expectations in check but I really want this to be good.
I find it very hard to believe cutting peoples heads off and splitting them in two with a katana in a decent fps game could not be fun.
Age of Chivalary is great, a mechanic like that could be great.

Ninja'd in a Shadow Warrior thread, now you want to wash Wang, or watch Wang wash Wang?

What does his age have anything to do with it? If he's sick or knocking on death's door, sure, but there are plenty of damn healthy 70 year olds out there these days.

I'm out.
I'd imagine (I could be wrong) that an savagely overweight 73 year old man might have difficulties effectively performing the voice with vigor.
So they are bringing in a younger guy, and a different voice actor, it's not a deal breaker for me, if the game is good it's good right?
The trailer seems to have a kind of slick Desperado feeling to it. The more I watch it the more I like it.
We would all like the original actor but it's not the end of the world, let's wait till we see some gameplay.

I suppose I shouldn't be too shocked, because Galt's exaggerated vocal charactertures were a huge chunk of what made the game so racially controversial.
The game could be great, but I don't think anybody should be expecting a return of the Lo Wang that everybody is/was familiar with.
So, brandishing the name Shadow Warrior and a character called Lo Wang could very well end up being the game's biggest curse. Gamers will be deprived of certain things they got in 1997- things that they strongly associate with the SW franchise- which will inevitably lead to disappoint.

So that people could talk about it otherwise you wouldn't see new on duke4 and this thread created. It's a brand recognition, nothing new. And it's an FPS and has thematical elements similar to original game. Pretty normal.

"Seems like it would be a good time to mention every gun in #ShadowWarrior has an alt fire mode. Even the katana, head, and heart. BOOM!"
Nice!
From the Facebook page: "Oh, this is a PC game first, baby. Built for PC, best on the PC. The PC will launch well before any console version as well." and they're "Hoping to support Steam Workshop in the future but it will not be possible at launch this summer."
"Hey guys, the game will be single player only to focus on making a great experience that will be worth playing through multiple times. It will be funny, crude, and crass - rest assured - and thanks for your support! Oh, and it will be expanded - there are tons of elements of the original that will be in the game. Everything from weapons, crass humor, and one liners to little things like hidden rooms and mischievous rabbits." - Also, no quick time events. There will be turret sections just like the original game and Flying Wild Hog are using their Roadhog engine.
Not surprisingly it'll be at E3, so we should be seeing some gameplay footage in a few weeks.

Savagely overweight? I've seen some pictures of Galt. He's got some weight, sure, but savagely? That seems rather dramatic.

I'm happy for you. Really. Anybody who finds joy in this, I hope it's a blast for you. From what my instincts gather, I can tell that, beyond the name of the character, the asian background, Zilla Corp being mentioned, and there being a sword in the game that this has precious little to do with the original game experience. It's essentially a bait and switch with a vague veneer of what Shadow Warrior was. I hope i'm wrong. Maybe the next Trailer will come blasting out with Asian influenced metal and there will be all of that silly, boundry pushing violence and OTT shit that made Shadow Warrior a blast. I highly doubt it, though.
John Galt defined Lo Wang's character for me. Just as JSJ defined Duke. So, for this guy, it very much is a deal breaker i'm afraid. I just can't get excited about a reboot that has very little in common with it's progenitor.

That's the nature of a reboot. I don't really care about John Galt missing. I'm intrigued.

Yeah I was being a bit dramatic I guess about the weight, but seeing as they now have a younger guy, a different voice seems more acceptable to me.
You may be right and this may not seem like a true Shadow Warrior game but I will wait and see how it shapes up, we only stand to gain if it's good.
If someone else were to voice Duke I would be pissed off, but that would not stop me playing the game if it was great.

That isn't what I said. I'm not saying it should be "the same" i'm saying it should retain the important characteristics.
It's really quite simple. Shadow Warrior, much like Duke Nukem 3D, was defined by particular elements of gameplay and characterization. Reboot or not, those are the things that DEFINE the character of Shadow Warrior. Some examples in characters like Sherlock Holmes or Batman, you have different defining traits that make those character who they are, and far and wide those have always been retained in the core of every iteration. From what i'm hearing this does not sound to be the case. They want to take the cheesey and OTT character and turn him into something serious and gritty. Something wholly cynical and free of what made him "offensive."
