If it's a rebbot then why do you want it to be the same?

Because it shouldn't be a reboot.

They're changing it up because the original didn't sell. No matter how much us fanboys want the 1997 game with modern graphics, something was obviously wrong with the game or else it would have been more popular. Hopefully the formula is changed in the correct manner.

Apart from the fact that Quake 2 was released the same year, and Half-Life the year after?

Technologically superior games tend to have that effect.

Then Quake would have had the same effect on Duke3d.

Obviously it did, because no FPS Duke Nukem game was released since then until over a decade later.

Its not because Duke wasn't as popular that a sequel didn't come until a decade later. Rather the opposite.

Yes, Quake was teh reason.

And I always thought DNF's development had other reasons for taking so long. I didn't know they wanted to wait until Quake is forgotten to make another Duke FPS. Thanks, one always learns something new.

No, they had to up their game. In fact, DNF's vicious development cycle has always been because they wanted to be better than whatever FPS came out at the time.

And Quake was one of them, so you're essentially still saying Quake was why DNF took so long. HAHAHAHAHA

When talking about influence, Half Life was what Duke was chasing. It's evident in the final game. DNF bears no resemblance to Quake.

Not saying Shadow Warrior will be any good, but a reboot/reimagining is the only way forward. You can't make a direct sequel to a game that sold 300,000 copies 16 years ago - when they were one of the worlds première game developers and had heavily advertised Shadow Warrior with the support of GT. Unless you shaped the marketing around that crazy idea and released thumbnail screenshots, an Angelfire homepage, magazine scans, and trailers that rotate through 3-d environments while showing off coloured lighting, I don't think many people would show up.

Could be interesting but also kinda' pointless seeing as they're dropping the racist/misogynistic main character's personality. I'm not a fan of Wang and always opted to turn off his one-liners. And the game was maybe a sleeper hit back in the day so it's almost pointless to market it as a reboot/remake. Why not just make a new game with a samurai/ninja dude who uses guns? And that's probably what the new game is going to be plus easter eggs referencing the original. I just hope it's not linear like modern shooters but at the same time moderates the key-hunting unlike the original.

Seriously, the key-hunting just completely takes you out of the original and most of the keys are in far from obvious places.

I'm so tired of political correctness. It used to be this semi-constant annoying voice in your ear all the time, now it's grown into the majority voice and is taking over the world. People don't know what to laugh at any more. There's a problem with everything. Bah...

Bullshit man. I am one of those people that laughs at everything that I consider funny and I am always in your face and always get accused of being an extremist in all the shit that I do.
I strive to be as political incorrect as I can and I make a point out of annoying the sheep around me every time I get the chance.
I am a real life troll more than you can imagine.
The hope is not lost, humanity still has people that are thinking for themselves and hate going with the flow like the rest of the sheep.
I have yet to be schooled by a political correct sheep.
As far as I am concerned, I say Fuck modernity and fuck the new ways.

It wasn't the only reason, but you'd be tripping if you thought the Quake series wasn't seen as a competitor. You're forgetting about how hardly anyone played Doom or Duke at LAN parties once Quake came to town and it stayed that way until Counter Strike, Unreal, and further Quake releases dominated the scene.

Plan your devastating katana strikes and hack down your opposition in a spectacular explosion of demonic gore in Shadow Warrior!

This is why you always bring a katana to a gunfight...

Demonic Dismemberment in Shadow Warrior

One of the most interesting combat mechanics in the upcoming Shadow Warrior is the strategic use of the katana and its devastating power when Lo Wang wields it properly. While most shooters treat melee weapons as a fallback option when you run out of ammo, the katana in Shadow Warrior was designed to be an incredibly powerful option that the player can use to wreck absolute havoc on most enemies in the game. It’s not just an alternative, it’s the weapon of choice for dispatching more standard size enemies with a combination of single strikes, combos, and special attacks.

Based on how you direct your strick and the power behind it, players can pick apart enemies like this unfortunate demon below. Arms, legs, heads, and just about everything can be lopped off to slow down or destroy an oncoming attacker. It’s glorious and we can’t wait to show it in action!

Sucessfully bringing (almost) every monster down with the katana was the most satisfying move in the original. Let's see how that will go on the reboot.

Nice dismemberment, gives me a warm sense of well being. I hope the katana sounds meaty when it strikes.

I hope the meat sounds meaty too.

Can't wait to see how this plays.

I'm curious as to what weapon could turn enemies into bloody skeletons. Maybe the Guardian Head? I'm hoping it'll return.

I like the sound of the dismemberment post. It will be cool to see how well the katana is going to play out.

"Shadow Warrior is a reimagining of the classic 1997 title. Rezzed is the first time the game will be playable to the public anywhere!" June 22-23. I suppose with Rezzed and E3 right around the corner we'll be seeing a lot more of Shadow Warrior very shortly.

Wow, at least in that still image, the blood actually looks like a thick viscous liquid rather than an obvious collection of sprites or particles. Fantastic!

Hmmm, reasonably quick by today's standards, nice looking levels, lots of shiny blood, dat sword...I'm in.

Though there is not yet evidence of interactivity or secret areas, also not a fan of the hud.
