i prefer listening to "waltz" music over the techno beats that mikko posted

I like both. Yes, I am old fart, but I can move to both genres. And both types are for dancing.

edit: my son is very gifted and is constantly writing his own songs on his piano, nintento ds, and fl studio if he's not playing classical music on a cd then imitating it by ear on his piano. (then he runs off and prints the sheet music to see how close he was)
not bragging for my son, just explaining that writing a song like the one mikko posted would be easily doable for him

So what was your argument then? That you're son is gifted or that song is piece of shit?

really?
can you read anymore into what i said and look for something that isn't there?

point: i prefer dance music that uses orchestra instruments over something programed with artificial computer sounds that sound like artificial computer sounds.

never said computer programmed music is bad. my son makes it all the time (and writes his own, not copying other's work), and i enjoy it.

i posted i prefer X over Y. Y being something my son can easily do with little effort.
explained son is very musically gifted so Y is not some simple piece of shit
...but anybody with a computer and has musical talent can sit down and crank those out by the dozen and not even know how to play a real instrument

Why did you bring your son into the argument that X is better than Y?

i failed to communicate my opinion properly in the original post

X is not better than Y
i prefer X over Y
and i tried to explain why, but did a very poor job of it

I obviously wasn't talking about dance music in any kind of "waltz" sense.

Uh, you could say the same thing about many of the instruments you consider "real". Moreover, a computer is no less a "real instrument" than, say, a guitar is.

Then why do you think people put down dance music?

You prolly asked Mikko - still I think some over analyse simple dance music. Once you look for something that does not exist, you can put it down. Posted Image

best i can do on short notice. most of his stuff is on his ds or notebook. he's busy with chores and whatnot and going to his grandparents house, but i asked him to write me a song when he gets time

here is a vid about 4 years old, so he's around 9-10. an example of him listening to his classical cd then copying by ear. don't blame the crappy piano for quality (we got him a new piano to replace that old beat up one)

I'm not saying the kid is not talented. I'm saying you can't put down dance music by arguing that someone who's talented could come up with something like that relatively quickly. You could say the same thing about almost any music, be it rock, pop, rap or whatever. If anyone who's reasonably talented can easily come up with such stuff then why are these people not making millions already?

You play it and it makes a sound and those sounds are organized in a way that makes a song. So, it's a musical instrument.

Btw, I have a guitar and I can play it but I sure as hell have zero idea how to make electronic music. With guitars you've got frets, strings, etc. What are those if not building blocks of a musical software (or hardware, rather)?

These are just very rough samples. I'm still waiting for the composition with similar quality as the ATB's posted by Mikko. Surely if he just needs under 10 minutes he wouldn't mind doing that one before school or something.

cute.

i could tell you the truth, but your attitude projects sarcasm. It'd just be an "excuse" to you so i won't bother

edit: fuck it. take it or leave it for what it is.

my son has aspergers (one of the reasons he's so musically gifted). We started getting complaints from his teachers at school that he was having problems -worse than usual- paying attention in class. We attributed it to his aspergers because he has real bad focus and organizational skills. Eventually my wife and I decided to dig a little deeper to find out what the problem was and found out that our son was getting up in the middle of the night to play games on his DS and get on the computer to access his facebook account - which he isn't supposed to do without our supervision (one of the girls from his school was sending him lewd pictures of herself). Staying up all night was starting to give him problems in school.
The end result is we took away his ds and grounded him from the computer (which is now password protected to keep him from logging on).
When he earns his privileges back (probably after school is out for summer break), then he can get on the computer and make a song for me.

People who put down dance music don't understand that its point is to convey emotions that are above the kind of petty human emotions (love, anger, whatever) that songs usually deal with.

It's more about conveying autism and homoerotic undertones. Oh and the love of taking shitty rave drugs.

The fact that I NEEDED ecstasy to appreciate dance music is proof it's crap. There's nothing "deep" about it, it's repetitive shit. I'm listening to The fucking Wall right now...that's a song that says something.

Every now and then there will be some dance song I like but I'll usually get bored after a day of listening.

I've done enough drugs to know that druggie music just appeals to a certain tempo/style that feels great on different kinds of substances.

Here's proof: MIA's Paper Planes. Normally, it's "meh." On ecstasy, it's literally the greatest song ever written:

Yeah, no, fuck that. I don't care if it's not "dance" music, that song was written for people who roll face.

That is correct. Alcohol and melatonin don't mix. This was a bad experiment. I hate having such shitty sleep hygiene.

EDIT: I just realized it took me like two minutes to write this post. Just the first four sentences. I'm going to bed before break something.

I'm going to post the shittiest thing ever before I go:
