Grabbag is overrated. Great tune, but the whole soundtrack is awesome.

Probably because everyone's been outwardly saying that they're sick of Grabbag? I'm thrilled they actually used something else for once, actually. Duke3D has a great soundtrack that is oft overlooked. And even better that they used my favourite version of my favourite track, Alien Reactor by Norvak.

Grabbag is not overhated overrated (for me at least it has some superb variations), it's just overused. Even the best track used one million times can become boring for a while.

edit: misspelling.

Yeah the trailer could be a lot more action-packed, (someone should make another fan-made trailer  ) about the background music I'm not sure if is really fitting, maybe some tracks from Reduked 2, a shame I haven't finished yet due the Duke Nukem Universe retardant curse :woot: Anyway I'm glad they decided to use one of my remixes :D

Glad it is your fav track MusicallyInspired !

I think you're selling yourself short, Norvak! I thought it was quite fitting. Full of excitement and energy. Perfect for action....even if the video portion was lacking a bit in that department. The music certainly helped spice it up a bit!

I never meant to give the impression that I hated Grabbag. I still like it. I should have mentioned that. It just seems to me that everyone has been saying they're sick of it for a number of years now. I'm just glad that they actually used something else from the Duke soundtrack for once. It never gets any love or attention.

I agree that the rest of the awesome Duke3D soundtrack should be used more, even the Total Meltdown covers would be cool to hear in a new trailer, but I just wanna see another trailer with Grabbag in it. The Duke3D XBLA trailer is one of my favorite trailers ever and I really like the modified Grabbag in the 2007 teaser.

Doubt it'll happen with the Duke5 trailers because Gearbox will likely use some popular modern song for promotion.

Gearbox totally dropped the ball with the DNF trailer.

Meh, the part in the trailer with Hell to the Chief has the broken paralaxed texture display from Jonof. I can understand the technical limitations for a source port, but it's not something you release as an official game.

It's my favorite too! I used to have this Matrix screensaver that you could add music too, modify the colors of, and display web pages in a box in the corner or something. I always used Alien Reactor from ReDuked :woot: Someone over at Devolver must really browse these forums a lot to have found it...

Yeah, I know it might be too much work for what they're aiming for, but IMO they really should add some skyboxes, or at least have the option to toggle them on/off to avoid that horrible solid colour that appears above the sky textures. (Assuming that they'd make them from scratch of course).

The Triptych/3DR trailer was much better.

Ops, I meant overrated, not over"hated". I agree with you on the matter.

I love Lee Jackson's tracks. So many cool chords, progressions, arpeggios, modulations, etc. that he used to make some very impressive music. He was definitely a good composer. Robert Prince was a hackjob compared to him.

Oh, The Megaton Edition has been released? Cool.

This is really cool. I hope when they add MP support it has a server browser, through steam or whatever. It'll be nice to have out of the box MP properly working in Duke3D.

Now it is available for me too

I'll wait for reviews and gameplay videos.

I hope that the devs will release the source and that the new opengl engine will be ported to eduke32.

What do you possibly expect the gameplay videos to look like? Posted Image

But yeah can't wait for them to release the source.

Does anyone else think it's confusing now having 2 threads about this? Conversation has become very disjointed.

Well maybe we should keep this thread for when Shadow Warrior gets announced?

I got it and it's ok but it's missing a quick save and quick load at the moment, don't know why that is.
I was also a bit dissappointed that it lacks separate volume bars for sfx and music.

If you look at the files they have ogg versions of all the music, so you probably wouldn't be able to adjust the music separately anyway, just like in eduke32. Although IIRC you can make the music quieter than the sound but not louder?

Ogg versions of the music? How do they sound?

For some reason a few textures in Dark Side are replaced with the standard brick texture.

I just got the steam version as well. It look similar to eduke, but the fact that you can't use polymer lighting effects with the old school graphics makes me sad. I think the best part of using eduke32 is having those lighting effects and the opengl renderer. However, the steam version of duke does a nicer job of smoothing out the old school pixel graphics. Is there a way to duplicate this in eduke? I suppose I could switch to trilinear? (which looks like what the steam duke has for its "smooth" setting). What's the best video setting in eduke to smooth out the pixels but get close to the same sharpness of the original dosbox version?

Interestingly I recall encountering the exact same phenomenon (at the same place.. well, outside; still on the same walls more or less), using vanilla DN3D for DOS - and even version 1.3d.
Some old glitch lacking an explain, or maybe someone has figured that out by chance?

Yeah I noticed it in vanilla too.
