Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition and Shadow Warrior Complete listed in Steam Database

I think some of you are expecting wayyy too much from General Arcade regarding Duke3d+. I'm just happy that they didn't go the route of slapping Dosbox on it and calling it a day like what happened with Doom I and ][ on Steam. (seriously, they should have at least used Chocolate Doom as a base)

I'm fine that there isn't a HRP. If they made an HRP, invariably someone is going to bitch about the artistic vision. The HUD has already seen a few complaints.

For me, this will be an opportunity to get the expansions which I don't have yet, If I'm not satisfied with the Duke3d+ .exe, then I will swap it out with EDuke32. Simple. (after getting the achievements anyway)

A vast amount of free content for Duke Nukem is available on this website. General Arcade is releasing a product and asking for us to pay for it. I think it's right for us to be critical, and expect that the final product be at least of comparable quality.

Since when Duke Nukem became freeware? They release the game for Steam and enhancing it with steam-related content and addons. If you don't think all the features will be worth the price(do we know it even?) then buy it on GOG for the *.grp file.

I'm actually excited about Duke Nukem 3D+, because it's open source and because it attempts to make Duke3D more popular. That new menu system (and whatever else they come up with) is going to look really nice in EDuke32!

In the end, the story of Duke3D+ is probably going to be a lot like what happened with JFDuke3D. People will buy Duke3D+ to get the GRP file, the good features will be implemented into EDuke32 for everyone to make use of, a few people who either don't know any better, don't need advanced features, don't care about mods or user content (or any combination of the above) will use Duke3D+, and everyone else will continue using EDuke32 like they have since 2004. They already said that they aren't trying to compete with EDuke32 and that we could advertise EDuke32-specific mods and maps and stuff in the community hub feature, so that directly benefits us as well. As long as it only costs about 10 bucks, it should be a good way to get the GRP and legal versions of the addons.

Seems no one cares about SW at all. Duke already has a great port, that continues to develop. SW's more or less modern port is buggy, has crappy mouse support, and I'm not sure that multiplayer even works in swp. So what about SW? Will be there a multiplayer\coop?

Excited at the prospect of Duke3D+. Also excited about SW+. I still haven't found a copy of SW yet. I was close to finding the CD at a thrift store, but someone jacked it out of the jewel case. Still would like the CD someday.

Hmmm, I wonder if the CD music from SW will play properly in SW+...

hey Lunick maybe you know what are plans for multiplayer... p2p or client/server connection?

Zero idea. After this releases I probably won't be a Beta tester anymore and General Arcade will work on that aspect on their own and then publish it to Steam.

It's not that no one cares about Shadow Warrior, it's just that there is no news on it at the moment. They'll probably work on it after this Duke stuff is done? Maybe they are using that to gain some momentum for it.

Maybe it will go faster though as they could use their own Shadow Warrior iOS as a base?

Edit: Fired up Steam, looks like it has been renamed Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition now, just like Devolver's tweet said.

I was also thinking, if Steam Workshop does come along and allows people to publish their maps, what's stopping people from uploading the Roch maps (etc.) and claiming them as their own?

I can't say I have actually used the Steam workshop myself. I assume they would get downvoted and put to the back.

You just cannot stop those copyright-violate assholes doing such stupid things, totally.

But shit always happens.

And other problem is when someone doing such shit, how us can proof it when the original author(s) may not appears anymore?

Well maps are included with text files that explain the publication date, author and other details. When you look at the "last edited" date you can compare that to the map to show authenticity.

...Well, I kind of had a question about that, which I have ignored for a while... is there no way to create widescreen support for the intro screens? They seem to stuck in some 4:3 aspect ratio. (not exactly sure) Is there anyway to make them stretch?

Having the expansions in the same package is a great deal, I've been looking for them for years- I'll surely get it when offered at 66% discount. Do you think this version will hit GOG too?

Wow, you've been looking for them for years but only buy them once they'll be sold at 66% from a regular price of $10-15?

Yes, that's the wonderful magic of Steam. It won't hurt waiting more and grabbing the same for less.

It can't hurt helping out the devs and give them an incentive to keep updating, no?

Sorry to interject here but it's entirely possible. However both the makers of said screens for the HRP and the engine developer have to support said feature for it to work. That'd be the more ideal way to handle it rather than stretching all the current intro screens.

You say it as if it was wrong to buy wisely.

I suppose all it requires is to extend setuptile support to HUD sprites.

Well someone dropped the date somewhere but the 20th is the Steam date for Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition.
