Thats just basically how Interceptor has been designing things since Duke Nukem Reloaded. "Hyper-next-gennish" with lots of excessive greebly stuff on things.

At the least there's similarities with the original in terms of color. In any case "It's a rocket launcher, son, don't make it complicated."

The original rocket launchers for the original game weren't exactly retro either in their styling except for perhaps the standard bazooka a little. At any rate none of them looked like WWII weapons.

Not much to bitch about. They compare it to the original sprites and they look perfect. Hyper-next-gennish or not. They are great adaptations. Its called weapon design people. Its modern conceptual art. If it ain't busy, its boring. Nothing seems real unless there seems like life exists in where it shouldn't, and imperfections exist where they should.

Why are they suppose to look like WWII weapons?

I can't help how I feel, I'm sorry. Nothing is above a teeny bit of criticism. I'm just calling it how I see it. I'm otherwise impressed with the progress of this project.

Today is 10/11/12 - that's good of an excuse as any to get drunk! Just don't fire this!

That's right, it's the D.R.U.N.K missile! The next weapon to be added to the growing H.U.N.T arsenal!

The gatling-like design helps to pump out its unguided payload of death at a rate of fire that was simply unimaginable back in 1995! At least that's what this one fat monk told us...

*All concept art is subject to change. Final in-game weapons may be considerably more awesome

I was referring to how the original game was a spinoff or was originally supposed to be a sequel to Wolf3D but was changed since John Carmack canned it so they changed the Nazis into cultists but kept the nazi look. I didn't say they where supposed to I just said they don't have to especially since it's not set in WWII era after all since someone said they thought the new rocket launchers looked too futuristic.

Will this game support tesselation?
I doubt it will so I just wanted to point out that even though this weapon looks good, I think they are overdoing it with the polygon count optimizations.
I haven't seen such optimizations on a hud weapon model since 2004.
I'm pretty sure that an fps game can run just fine on today's general hardware even if you don't get so greedy with the polycount on the hud weapons.
I've always thought that if you want to optimize 3d models for an fps game, focus on everything else before the hud weapon models.
If the hud weapon models appear low poly, people will be more tempted to perceive the entire game as being low poly and outdated.
I really think this weapon could have had more polygons to it, at least on the big parts that are supposed to be round.

That's cute that the firebomb has a warning label on it, no matter what it says. Little touches of demented humor like that always make me smile.

The "High poly" on your paint over is actually the LowPoly, used for the In-game FPS view.
The one to the right on the screenshot is the Third Person model, which is used for pickups as well.
The shot is just a snippet of a magazine exclusive where the models were accidentally swapped.

If "Never Forgotten" and LakiSoft were any proof, the one thing that seems to piss Duke4.net users off most is the lack of content - the opposite is also true.

If you are saying that Fresch's face was used as an inspiration for that upper posted sketch, I would be more inclined to think that it was not that picture of his face that he used as an inspiration.
I believe it might have been this one instead :P
Posted Image

Check my version out, I think it matches the sketch much better.

No hard feelings Fresch my boy but you can't deny the resemblance :P

Yeah so far what I've seen of his face in the game just looks awful:

Posted Image

The skin needs work, the hair needs a lot of work. They're probably going to change it before the release, but still... and where's all the muscle? The expression doesn't help, even though it was set up specifically for this shot.

Even if they touch it up though, he's never, ever going to look remotely like this:
Posted Image

Even pixelated you can tell this guy is a badass, you can tell he's got muscle. I mean just look at him. The cheeks, jaw, chin, neck, smile.. now look back up at the previous shot. This is nothing personal against Frederick, it's just a fact that his facial structure and body build don't match the character and what it represents, and it's probably going to take away from the gaming experience as a result, just for him and other team members who modelled for main characters to get a little more known..

I mean how would people feel playing Duke Nukem that instead of playing this cool, wise-cracking muscle guy, you were actually playing as the guy in the middle? It just wouldn't be the same.

Agreed, the hairline is just horrendous, but the main issue is definitely the fact that the facial model lacks any definition or normal map to create the muscle definition. Where's the chiseled double chin?!? But I do have to say, even Fredrick has a lot more facial definition than the model.

Hate to burst your bubble there but studios that don't have enough money to hire actors or the likes to model faces from (cause that is usually how it happens) often have their own developers model instead.

That said, the model does look like shit - but that has nothing to do with fresch's face.

To my recollection, pretty much every VA and actor in the original Rise Of The Triad was on the 3D Realms/Apogee dev team in some shape or form - even George Broussard as the Triad Enforcer.
