I really loved the music and visual effects/art direction. That part where they looked out the window looked like something straight off a 70s sci-fi novel cover. My favourite kind. As for the story and show itself, like the other two MCU D+ shows, it's not REALLY grabbing me but we'll see.

Grindhouse
It is a unique experience
I recommend seeing it complete with the trailers to have the authentic experience.
Of the two I liked Death proof the most. It stagnates a bit in the second part but the persecution conquered me.
Planet terror starts strong but from the second half I have the feeling that he does not know where he wants to go.

Watched Angel Heart for the first time and enjoyed the mood, the score and the performances by all the cast. Rewatched Goodfellas again after that which is always great and never fails to deliver. Also watched Elvira: Mistress of the Dark for the first time (have heard of Elvira before but never seen any of the shows and movies), and enjoyed the cheesiness and will definitely have to check out the rest.

Watched Black Widow last night. Other than introducing new characters that may show up in the mcu later, i didn't see the point of the movie. Guess the post credits scene was cool? the rest of the movie was painfully average. Or maybe i see it that way because i've been watching Loki too, and that series blows my mind with each episode.

Really? I stopped watching Loki. I have no hope for Black Widow either though from what I've heard. I've just checked right out of the MCU. I'll come back for Dr Strange 2 and maybe Spiderman 3 but that's it.

Tried to watch some stupid mid-90s sci fi series called Lexx (yes, two x's), but it was so bad I had to turn it off half way through. The scenario was just to goofy to take seriously.

Saw Cloud Atlas for the first time, which was surprisingly great. Laughed my ass off at the yellow-face.

Watched Kong Skull Island with the wife and kids last night after previously watching Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla King of the Monsters. I'd seen it before but only once. Not as good as the Godzilla movies but not terrible either. Next up is Godzilla vs Kong. Hopefully this doesn't drop the ball.

Okay, so Godzilla vs Kong was ridiculously over the top and silly but okay. Great popcorn flick. As long as you turn your brain off and have fun with it it's a good time. Godzilla 2014 is definitely the best of this line of movies. The sheer sense of scale the cinematography portrayed was never repeated quite as well in any of the movies after. Godzilla was monstrously large. In the other movies the monsters move too quickly and the camera views them from a perspective that makes them seem normal sized. Can't explain it, but 2014 really stood out compared to the others.

Finished Loki. The multiverse has been kickstarted, literally. Doctor Strange 2 is gonna be wild.

This film is basically if David Lynch and Jan Svankmajer had a baby with a Chilean folk artist. Very peacefully incredibly disturbing, definitely suggest a watch.

The YouTube algorithm got me again, but this is some S-class trolling (headphones warning in parts):

So, apparently the new Dune movie already screened in Europe. And it is the bees knees. Have anyone here seen it? Is it good?

I watched Cube and Cube 2 Hypercube again for the first time since first seeing them about 16 years ago. Cube 1 is clunky and a bit of bad acting but has so much meat to it. Cube 2 was clearly just a cash grab and not near as meaningful or deep as the first one, but the concept behind it I still enjoyed. But things just kind of happened in it and people talked and people died and everything was so underwhelming. But the effects were neat. I also saw Cube Zero back then and it was good too. Liked the twist at the end and the callback to Cube 1. Also, big fan of David Hewlett and Nicole de Boer so it was good to see them.

It reminded me that there was a fanmade Cube video game online and I went to check on it again but it still doesn't look like it has advanced into any of the advanced features the designer wanted to add. But it looks really nice.

Watched Free Guy last night. I was expecting it to be meh at best, got a pleasant surprise when it turned out to be a good movie: GTA Online but the AI is Self-Aware. Trust me, that's better than it sounds.

I just watched Dune. My normie gf fell asleep. However as a mexican weeb that loves sci fi and likes the Dune book series I loved it. It was IMO an acceptable adaptation.

And no, it has no woke in it, except for the gender bent Dr. Liet Kynes. Which... whatever. I can live with it.

Finally got around to seeing Tennet. It was pretty mind bending but the action was cool, me and the wife had to look up some answers afterwards lol but what do u expect from Christopher Nolan right?

Started watching Squid Game few days ago, but I'm no bingewatcher, so will take me a week or so to finish. So far it's pretty good, in general I've been enjoying all my encounters with Korean cinema so far, Parasite, The Wailing and Kingdom being probably the last examples of that. As I European, I find that culture a bit exotic, but also relatable - like regular world put through some warped filter, where some things just don't fit in and feel otherwordly. The aesthetics in Squid Games being somehow abstract make this vibe even more prevalent.

Also watched Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman, which was very mediocre - the dialogues might have been some of the worst written ever. And re-watched brilliant Lighthouse, which is as good as when I watched it for the first time in cinema. Just a perfect horror, can't find any flaws in this movie - and after this and The Witch, I can safely say I'd take anything from Eggers blindly.

To be honest I though the movie was allright. I just hated the fucking soundtrack. It was so loud at times I could not hear the dialogue.

@Aleks

Honestly I also consume a lot of korean media (thanks to my sister lol), and I'm starting to like it more than the shit that westerners spew into the god damn etherm this days. I'm not a fan of the Cowboy Bepop live action adaptation.

ON a related note, I saw the first 5 episodes of the Foundation yesterday instead of sleeping. I absolutely hate it. I hate it with a fucking passion. They totally massacred Issac Asimov's work. Fuck whoever was involved with this piece of shit.

I really liked it. One character did get gender swapped which I guess could impact your enjoyment of the film if you care about that sort of thing. But that aside it was quite faithful to the book (so far, it's only the first part of what will hopefully be a 2-parter)

I mean, kinda. In the books Paul is more confrontational and "sassy" then in the movies. The meeting with the reverend mother at the start of the book is very different from what was shown in the movie. You could argue they lowkey misrepresent Paul's character at times. Same goes for the practice session with Halleck . Hawat was practically left by the wayside. But given the current political context in American society at this time I think it is an acceptable adaptation. Story wise it could have been much worse.

Just the mechanics of how exactly all that time stuff works

Watched Finch, really good. Tom Hanks still a great actor (as always), and dogs are my weakspot so there were tears.

Was on a stand-up and meeting with John Waters, the antipope of the Hollywood, during the past 2 days - so watched some of his movies to catch up. Polyester was strangely "normal" and family friendly for what I would suspect from the man (although I did love Edith Massey's role and the junkie son having a fetish of stomping feet). The other one was Desperate Living and it was truely as filthy as I'd imagine, so much absurd, it felt like Monty Python's doing a porno film with way too elaborate plot.

What a great film! It's no epic or anything, but man does it hit all the right points for me! The characters were all mostly memorable and likeable and it was very heartfelt and an appropriate epilogue to the original movies. There were a few points where it could have been too much and gone very very wrong but it just didn't. It tastefully and gracefully stuck the landing insanely well. And the ending especially was very moving. So much care went into every reference but it didn't overdo it. There were also so many points where I went "Oh that's so cool!" and got me all amped and excited like good movies used to do. It reminded me of why I love the favourite films I love. It didn't drag at any point and nothing went over the top (too much, this IS a film about ghosts lol) and it was just really enjoyable all around. It didn't feel too long or too short. It was a great movie in the classic sense. Bravo to Jason Reitman and the rest of the team for pulling it off so well. Seriously one of my favourite movies of the last 10 years. Like I said, it's no epic and it's not THE greatest film, but as far as just being a great film in its own right and standing on its own two legs while extending a firm grasping loyal link to the past it was just an overall solid film. It was funny and even at some points emotional. Highly recommend!

You forgot to mention what film you are talking about, it wasn't until well into the text that I realised it must be the new Ghostbusters :D

Anyway, watched Black Widow, which was just another generic Marvel movie, unfortunately - good to watch with a friend and a couple of beers, but nothing I would remember by the time I watch the next MCU. It did feel like there was more potential to it, but they just made it super schematic. Also I absolutely hated Florence Pugh acting in this one, her voice and accent sounded like she practiced by watching Ukrainian porn.

Just watched because I wanted to watch the movie first, and yep, they mirror my feelings exactly. In fact, I agree with the larger point that I've reached the "Acceptance" part of grief. When these new movies, games etc come out I just hope they're as bad as possible, as bad as Ghostbusters 2016 or Duke Nukem Forever so the franchise can just fuckin die already. Even before I watched this movie, I knew it'd be just good enough to keep the franchise limping along and I don't want that because it will go the way of Disney Star Wars. I'm tired.

Full disclosure: I had to get high as fuck to even watch this movie. I think I wouldn't have been able to contain my own cynicism to even finish it without. I'll probably never watch it again unless there is some alternate/deleted scenes and some nerd makes a fanedit.
