Anyway, watched Black Widow, which was just another generic Marvel movie, unfortunately - good to watch with a friend and a couple of beers, but nothing I would remember by the time I watch the next MCU. It did feel like there was more potential to it, but they just made it super schematic. Also I absolutely hated Florence Pugh acting in this one, her voice and accent sounded like she practiced by watching Ukrainian porn.
Ah shoot. I copied and pasted from another conversation and didn't realize I didn't mention the title. Yeah it's Ghostbusters. lol
Also, I'm surprised how many people thought it wasn't good. Truly mystified.

Yeah, same. That's why Flanagan's work is a breath of fresh air because it's more than that. But yeah on an emotional level Hill House fucked me up badly because it deals heavily with PTSD, so I guess it's "emotional gore" which might not be your thing.
Love Street Trash!!! 80s B movies are prob my favorite genre of film.

I also quite enjoyed the last Bond movie, even though it's been somewhat divisive. Thought it was a well done ending for the Craig-era.
I'm going to see the new Spiderman this weekend, hopefully it's good. The 3 movies Marvel released this year have been mostly 'fine'.
They're not bad but also pretty formulaic and forgettable.

-Daredevil: all 3 seasons are great imo, favourite show of the bunch. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio really owned their characters.
-Jessica Jones: first season was ok, the second one is awful (the worst of the bunch imo) and the 3rd one was meh. Both later seasons ruined by the most annoying character in the ENTIRE MCU. Like, Holy ****.
-Luke Cage: both seasons were ok, not good, not bad, just ok.
-Iron Fist: 1st season seems to be considered the worst, but i had fun watching it. The second one though was forgettable. Literally, i watched it 2 weeks ago and barely remember anything about it.
-Defenders: was ok (The teamup series, but at the same time Daredevil season 2.5, in the same way you could say Civil War is Avengers 2.5).
-The Punisher: first season was my second favourite, but the 2nd one felt like (mostly) filler. Still, watching Frank Castle tear bad guys to shreds never gets boring.
I do have to say that all of them suffer from pacing issues, like a 8-9 episodes season was stretched to be 13. Daredevil (mostly) escapes it though.
Are they worth watching? personally i consider the following worth it:
DD season 1
DD season 2
Iron Fist season 1*
Defenders
Punisher season 1
DD season 3
On this order, the shows do follow the same continuity so watching them out of order will give you a few headscratchers.
* not really needed, but it does provide more context for what happens later in Defenders.

Infinity War is probably objectively the better movie but this one is my new personal favourite.

The Matrix Resurrections was about what I expected. I had a gut feeling that it wasn't going to be something that would amaze me from the first trailer, and partly out of that expectation is some bias but also the reality of how difficult the task is to try and come up with something mind-bending and fresh, especially when there's not really that many directions you could go actually go in, and considering how the trilogy essentially wrapped everything up. While not the worst movie I've ever seen or anything, it was fairly middle of the road and kind of just there, which I think is also due to mainly treading familiar ground with certain story beats and nods to the previous movies, with a mix of meta with 'how are we going to reboot this series for a new audience while acknowledging the previous films?' angle. Anyway, might go check out a couple of other movies during the Christmas break after seeing some trailers.

So far it's been quite enjoyable, certainly better than the Netflix Cowboy Bebop series.
*waits for Jac to call me a simp for using Netflix and Thrice to call me a pedo for watching something French*

Lupin is good yeah. Kinda wish they had made a series of Arsène Lupin himself but I will take the wins I can get.
...wait a sec...

Another movie over 2 hours long that I wish would have been even longer was the Lost in Space movie from 1998. I can't remember much about it any more other than really liking it because I don't think it was ever brought to regular cable TV since then.
I was a big fan of the Dune series of books. Read them all multiple times over the decades. After the movie I was online and saw that the original writer's daughter has released another series of Dune books. I can't believe I missed that.

Well it took a bit longer (mostly because our government decided to go for a month of uberheavy lockdown which in hindsight proved to be useless) but I finally saw the new Spider-man movie. I somehow managed to avoid spoilers for all that time (although there were some things I expected to be in there so I wasn't that surprised when
All in all I enjoyed it very much! Easily the best Marvel movie from 2021 and the fan service actually worked well within the story. I thought the dramatic moments were done well and William Dafoe stole the damn show.

The Goonies is such an awesome movie. Seriously, fuck Hollywood.
I saw the new Kingsmen (kingsman?) movie with my pops. It was a fun goofy action movie and God do I miss movies that were just stupid action set pieces and not deconstruction/overly political. And yes this is "political" and there is a "message" buried there as well but the plot is so fucking dumb and over the top I never even noticed until my father pointed it out.

Because no one takes chances anymore. The early 70s to the mid 90s were a wild west. Independence Day is probably around where it died. Hollywood found a safe formula. All movies are middle of the road. It's either kind of bad or kind of good. But you never get something really bad or really good.
When you take the risk of being truly bad, you can be truly good. That's why "so bad it's good" movies don't get made anymore.

With all due respect, they are retarded.
Also I didn't like The Eternals. But then again I'm tired of all the MCU bullshit.
