Yes, you are right on this: EVERYONE ...

EDIT:
I think everyone would love that DN3DR is a more open project with better and more showing of media and builds to the public... but look what happened to the Duke 98 community game. It had to "hide" in a protected forum.

This has been my complete beef with DN3D:R. Tons and tons of hype (but not from you, in fact, I really like your postings and insight and are really the best glimmers of hope from the entire project,) but nothing tangible. Just some bullshit concept art and model renders. To be honest, I really don't even see why you guys ever went to GBX. Fuck them and their bullshit.

Has DanM got a call from Gearbox? He has issued a complete and working game that actually plays like Duke. Has he got a call from Gearbox? THIS is why people are angry. I've got to modify my point 4 a bit here after hearing this.

Gearbox is full of shit. I don't see any real evidence that they give a fuck about the IP, or their fans. At least 3DR looked like they were trying.

So basically this is what you want us to see:

:(

Not really, There was a big, full frontal ingame shot of a certain hero "sneaked" into the skin. I talked "around" it because I don't know how the reactions from GBX would have been (or was, already).
That's also why I made the double post so that people go into this thread fast because of a new post.

Sorry. Don't know yet who removed it or why the pic was removed (to clarify: I didn't put it there, I just saw it and read that it was "sneaked in" there officially from he team and that it was OK, if I mention it here).

^^ This. You could tell George and Scott were very passionate about the Duke Nukem IP and it's fans. Hell, they wouldoften post on the 3DR message boards. What's even more messed up is the fact that Randy himself seems like he doesn't give two shits about the franchise. And if the Gearbox Community Day event that happened a couple of months ago is any indication, I'd say I'm more than right. He kept his distance from the fans, you never saw him, had a rude attitude/vibe about everything, ONLY did autographs when it was time for that part of the event, and just seemed overall uninterested about DNF..what, it being advertised as the main focus and all. You could def tell he was just trying his hardest to make it seem like the game would be amazing by saying the most generic pitches. He seemd much more intereasted in the new Aliens Colonial Marines (he literally sounded like he was gonna jizz his pants), than DNF...which is a shame. Funny thing is, the original creators of DN were there (George, Scott, Allen), and were some of the most gracious people you'd ever meet...eventhough Allen was alittle too shy...but that's okay because he created an icon. I remember when I told George how much of an hardcore fan I was, he said "That makes me feel good We worked hard on every game so you guys could enjoy them to the fullest". Actually I had full convos with all of the 3DR guys. When I told Randy how big of a fan I am...alll he did was respond with an "Cool." Douchebag. Regardless of GBX owning the IP now, I will surely miss the 3DR days. Scott, George, Allen, Joe, and even Jon St. John himself, all wrote personal messages to me on my event flyer...making me the only guy there who recieved such an amazing thing (the personal messages I mean). I even have it framed. Here's hoping DNR will rekindle the series and bring it back to it's 3D Realms glory days...cuz GBX so far doesn't know jack shit on how to handle Duke Nukem.

Can't say that I really like George after all that happened with DNF but I still believe he is pretty down to earth guy. One dev guy said he was like a big huggable teddy bear.

In a way I could see Gearbox viewing Duke as this adopted kid that they took in because it was being neglected by their former parents who where too busy out boozing and partying. But in the end they don't care for or love it as much as their own children (Borderlands especially) because well... it's technically not their child. Duke is the proverbial red headed step child at Gearbox. :(

I know, I posted and downloaded the pic yesterday before it was changed. Here's to thinking ahead.

[Edit] To whoever is desperate PM for pic.

Ok, now people can have their own opinion. :(

Only two things: The blueish tone of his skin is due to lighting. And the shot is from roughly the same period as the leaked shots (i.e. about 3 to 4 months old).

Yes they did. And looking back it was the scam of the century. How to keep fans for fifteen years? Host a forum and make posts. Promise something, delay, delay, post something etc.

The images means nothing, all it tells me that they are not ready to ship their game.

I think he looks good, just like all the previous leaked pics. He still seems a bit "aged". My only complaint is minor technical stuff such as the sharp angles on his arm and shoulder. The overuse of bloom, specifically the shotgun shells and barrel, sticks out badly. Bloom is good in places, but when overused becomes a serious eyesore. Hopefully it was exaggerated just for that picture.

Yes it was, but it was taken for a presentation months ago. The time that pic was taken there were also still deformations on the character when animated. In the recent builds there was much less bloom and improved lighting ... but then this is a PC game meaning you can change settings like a real man anyways (DOF, bloom, FOV and all that).

EDIT:
And yes we are interested in honest opinions and will consider your feedback, of course.

I thought it looked pretty good and I'm glad someone posted it to get a better view. Just seeing it darkened in a forum background kind of made it look like a photoshop of the old DNF teaser image just like that other image looked like a photoshop of a guile image from street fighter.

The only thing I'd have to say is it's....very very blue. Duke looks decent though. Only complaint I have is his shoulder not looking proportiante with the rest of his upper body...esp his neck. I'm sure that'll change though....hopefully.

This Duke looks 1000 times better than the one found in DNF, that's for sure.
The only easy to fix problem that I see, are some sharp edges on some of his arm muscles.

Glad you like it a bit.:(

As one member just stated on the DN3DR-forums: [When the releases are coming] it will get better with every release. And although we are all fans of Duke, don't expect the perfect experience the first time. This project still has limited manpower compared to 30 or 40 people working on a game full day for money.

I didn't have so much of a problem on how the DNF model looked (to me his slimmed down look was more realistic and went with his "retirement" story), but this DNR one just has the "I'm Duke Nukem and I kill bitches dead!" look that we all loved back in the day. So far, so good.

The model looks way better then face pic of Duke you showed before. Although, like Mr.Deviance there are some sharp edges on some of his arm muscles that need to be fixed. Also, red on the shirt looked a bit too dark, maybe lighten that up a bit. Other wise it looked good and i'm mostly happy with the look of Duke in DN3D:R.

But it isn't prefect yet, of course. Still gets updates, tweaks and improvements because new animations are added and so new tweaking (deformation, etc..) is always necessary.

@Reaper Man:
I think the brightness of the shirt in the current version we have is OK, but I must say that the red is a bit less saturated than in DNF. This for example is a thing that needs to be adressed later when we (and the community) tests if the saturation and color is good enough for easily differng the teams in online firefights without making it too bright and colorful ... it is a fine line ... there need to bee easy to distinguish colors but don't want it to become Barbie - Reloaded.

I just take the liberty to post something that was mentioned in the chat during the livestream (if this is too much info, Fred, just notify me):

As the first release will be multiplayer only we put a little more focus on it. You will get dedicated servers and local action with bots of adjustable skill, so that you can play with yourself.

There also will be 2 gametypes not mentioned before: Greed and Teamgreed. Both gametypes have proven to be fun in UT2004 and UT3 (and other games) and fit Duke Nukem perfectly (in our opinion).

For those that don't know these gametypes:

Greed:
It is played on Dukematch maps. Each player starts with a dollar bill in his pocket. If a player is killed he loses that dollar which then can be picked up by any other player. You can carry as many dollars as you want. But if you get killed while carrying a lot of dollars you lose everything (It'll look a bit like the letters falling down when shooting the bags in "Going Postal" in Duke Nukem 3D).
You simply score by delivering the money to a stripper that dances somewhere in the map, showing the beloved "shake it baby"-animation when you bring the money.
To make it a bit more intersting and encourage people to collect dollars you will score more than you deliver (1 dollar = 1 point, 2 dollars = 3 points, 3 dollars = 5 points, etc...)
But don't be too greedy ... if you get shot while carrying too much money you lose it all and give others the chance to collect the dollars..
The stripper will change location just like the "hills" in DNF's King of the Hill gametype.

Teamgreed:
It is basically the same as the FFA Greed but is played on CTB maps. THere are two strippers. One in each base. You have to deliver the money to the stripper in the opponent's base to score for your team.

Then there will be another gametype which is unique and hasn'T been done in another game yet ... but we don't want to reveal that by now ... this time because we don't want to ruin every suprise. :(
