Don't worry, the staff here won't start banning at request. People here do have a spine and know when to say go fuck yourselves to gearbox if they cross the line too much...

Well that's a consolation and some relief, but I wanna know....how exactly are links to youtube videos easily accessible to anyone cutting back potential sales? Just curious as to your opinion on this.

So this place is editing/locking posts requested by Gearbox. Are you guys gonna start banning certain people Gearbox requests you to ban? Whose site is this, anyway? By their standards everybody here should be gone.

Christ man, will you shut up? They're only doing what we've failed to do, and that's to cover up the leak, we're all to blame for this spreading. No, there isn't going to be a banhammer here as well. If anything there could be some temporary bans. Bans here RARELY happen. I can't speak for the admins\moderators here, but I', 85% sure that I'm right.

1. I consider it(or at least in my and a few others's cases.) more debate than blaming/arguing.

2. I didn't download any leaks. I can easily wait 1 more month. ;)

3. How are we spreading the word around when all links to videos are gone from here? As for the latest one, well you can't really tell how to DL leaked content from a friday parody video, now can you? :\

4. If we stopped this board would be dead...this is literally the most active thread in the last few days.

Uh spreading the word is telling people that there has been a leak. Google is a magical place as I've stupidly pointed out in a post of mine on the first page.

His comment was a little brash, I admit, but c'mon.....a little forum like this is solely responsible for spreading the leak? With youtube video links? We didn't link to the torrent sites or anything, and even without these videos up people will still leak it.

As I said, this site saying there's a leak doesn't mean we helped spread the leak in any major way, or that people wouldn't have found out regardless....as you say, google is a magical place.

There is no explanation for it. Talking about it should be fair game. I'm totally on board with not posting download links and saying "PM ME FOR DOWNLOAD!" or some other bullshit. That's just common sense. All I'm seeing here is this site acting like Gearbox's bitch for no real purpose other than gushing at the attention of a real life game developer. Who cares? So many other forums across the internet are talking about it and posting vids/pics and ignoring their gestapo crap. When Doom 3's alpha demo was leaked id software didn't respond like this. When an early build of HL2 was leaked Valve didn't censor every single website that talked about it. In fact, talking about it helped track down the original leak. The cat is out of the bag, there's no stopping people from TALKING. Only the smallest fansites gave into pressure because of fear they won't get their yearly exclusive screenshot.
Within a day or two this is gonna be all over the major video game news sites.

Read the post I just made, we're responsible for telling people that there has a been a leak, and the fact that there are leaked videos isn't what I was calling out to be a way of spreading the word, but now I am, the more people that know about the leak, the more likely it is going to be Google searched and downloaded.

I was given an infraction for trying to tell Gearbox to stop the hackers. Oh well, I will be safe here instead. The leak is nothing special, just one short level and the other which is broken. No biggy. Also I'm sure Gearbox will step in to stop these the hackers, one way or another.

The admins removed the link to the friday parody....lol heavyhanded for sure.

It doesn't matter in the end though...it's like saying that DRM stops piracy, and that if we don't talk about cracks and torrents it'll suddenly stop happening, but if we do talk about them it'll be our faults.

I have to admit, bit pissed with the mod for doing that. A link to a preview video that's on feckin YouTube. So all other forums like Reddit can share YouTube links but the Duke4 forums aren't allowed to. Heavy handed is stating this lightly

I said that the fact that we spread the word increases the chance of people finding a torrent or something to download a leak. It's our fault for those people that have done so because of us.

Oh well....a link for a link then?
DNF Map 1 playthrough??? ;)

(BTW I think the link above showcases how GBX and others are handling this situation.....watch before repping as it's not what you think.)

That's about as bullshit a reason as you can get....if they didn't find out through us they would have found out anyway. Duke4.net isn't the town watering hole where people pick up gossip and spread it, it's an internet site among many others which anyone can search for said info.

That's not entirely true, this is potentially the only forum website I go to anymore. I wouldn't have known about the leak if someone didn't post about it, so I think that I've just proven my point, that for some people, they wouldn't have found out if people weren't posting about it, I may be a bad example as I'm not downloading the leak or anything, but my point is still valid for people that do because they found out about it here.

Actually it is true. Many pirates use google to find leaks, not just forums like these....so if a person was going to pirate or was interested they'd have hit goggle/torrents sites already. Thus hiding stuff here isn't going to do squat either way...just my two cents.

I admit that I have pirated stuff in my life, I'm fifteen, it happens. I've never searched around for leaks or anything, if I saw something I liked in an ad, I'd go search for it, and that's all I'd find. So my point is still valid.

Yes, but again, every kid knows torrents by now and knows how to use google. If I were piracy minded that's the first and only place i'd check. It's like with drugs....yes you can arrest dealers but more will popup in their place.

If people want to find a leaked demo or game and pirate it they know where to go. There's massive communities out there dedicated to this stuff. Millions of people who probably never heard of duke4.net who are likely downloading DNF as we argue whether or not it's ok to talk about it.

How does that relate to what I said to make a point. As a pirate, only if I saw something that I might like, I'd go look for it. That's only when I'd look for it. I don't go searching the web for anything I can pirate to get my hands on it. The point that I'm making is that posting stuff about the leak here increases the chance of someone finding out and downloading it, when sometimes they wouldn't have found out about it otherwise. So basically, it is still a problem that people spread the word.

This...any pirate worth his salt wouldn't bother with small forums dedicated to the game but would already be permanent members of shadier forums where game leak info is never deleted and is abundant. In order to say the stuff we posted spread the leak in any significant way, you'd have to first shut down all those sites, and somehow make it so that all the pirates would find their way here, which probably will never happen.

It was reported for copyright violations.

Piracy is very illegal. Talking about it is prohibited anywhere.

You don't seem to get it. The major numbers/pirates looking for games WILL always be looking for stuff to download, and as such they will usually only look in torrent sites and forums hosting links to such. Yes one or two might stumble upon it here first, but not many. It's like saying a huge crack in the dam is right next to a small tiny pinhole crack and thinking the pinhole crack is the major party responsible for spreading the water(games) and that if the pinhole crack is sealed that the dam is somehow safe and fixed.

Read what I said. I AM a pirate. I don't do that. So case in close, you are wrong about the percentage of people like me, who wouldn't have found about leak if it weren't for the website forum that they may happen to be on.

Piracy is completely illegal. Talking about it is prohibited anywhere.

It's basically a let's play of demo content.....thus it doesn't break copyright AFAIK.

Also you can talk about piracy in many forums, as long as you don't spread links and hints on how or where to pirate.

Not to be blunt, but you are like the cabin boy of pirates.....real long time pirates know better places to get torrents than through searching small forums and such. This is to say you're the exception more than the rule.

Well those exceptions add up eventually don't they? You're arguing majority vs minority. Even the minority has an influence. So as I said, the more people spread the word, the more likely some people (the minority in this case) will find out about it and download it.

Admitting you're a pirate kinda sets you up for a ban, does it not?

They don't really add up to as much as you think if the majority(80%+) get their leaks info elsewhere.

No it doesn't, especially not here. The fact that I admit I am a pirate means nothing. I will never pirate Duke Nukem Forever. I have respect for the game. Posting direct links to things will likely get you banned, not admitting that you are a pirate. Even if I did post a direct link to something, it'd probably just get deleted anyway. Bad argument in these particular forums.

Review sites show photos of review demos they get all the time. And if people copy those pictures and edit/post them on their blogs it's fair use. This was a demo video but imo it's not much different really.

Same thing with public demo events. Someone can camcord or photo someone playing a demo and post it to thier blogs/sites as well.
