I sat down once to read the entire thread...I then commented that topics were repeated (with the same people) several times and that the thread, as a whole, is rather entertaining.

Also, does anyone want to watch all the Rambo movies with me? I bought them (and the first 3 Alien movies) for $40. Yeah, that's right...7 movies for $40. Oddly enough, half of them are older than me. The cashier jokingly asked if I was over 17. I like showing my ID (despite the terrible picture), so I had no problem with "proving" that I'm "of age"to buy such films.

I just watched the first 2...holy crap. Stallone is awesome. Which Rocky did he fight the Russian? Rambo 2 he takes on the big Russian in a freaking helicopter!

Forget a LotR marathon...bust out some cases of beer and order some pizza: there needs to be a Rambo marathon. Of course, I don't have time right now to start the Rambo 3. I'll watch that either after 9 or I'll just do it later this week. I'm still on vacation so I need to keep myself occupied.

I have now acheived what I aspired to acheive, my own house, unclean clothing, sat in front of my old 486-33 computer playing Commander Keen: Aliens ate my Babysitter and eating a pot noodles...

Yeah, when I was younger that is what I always saw myself doing in the future, I guess dreams can come true eh?

Lord of the Rings sucks after the first watch. Each subsequent viewing it is worse and worse.

I don't think I've watched them since I saw them in theatres...yet I have all 3 on DVD. Not the super special awesome collectors editions or anything, but I have all 3. One day I'll do a LotR marathon...but not anytime soon. It would have to be with peeps I like and can have beer/pizza with and hang out with for a whole day without going crazy.

I'm still on vacation at my parents' house so I have lots of time to kill until I fly back home to DC on Friday. That reminds me, I walked through security with a tube of toothpaste...so much for airline security.

I watched Fellowship 7 times in the span of two weeks. It was still great.

Well that is the best one.

I hope all that quake stuff isn't an indication for something bad about to happen, but we all know how Duke feels about quakes :P

I try to watch LOTR at least once a year. Very good trilogy. Should look even better on my new TV I got in July. It uses Pioneer's Kuro technology that Panasonic licensed from them when they stopped making plasmas which delivers infinite black levels and rich colors with a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The picture is heavenly. Much better than my old 60 Hz LCD TV.

I'm useless with contrast ratios of TV's and monitors. All I know is that I used a cheap LCD for my computer for a while then played Duke 3D on the Mac out of interest and the colours blew me away! I didn't realize how vibrant the 8 bit artwork was, it always looked rather dull on the cheap LCD.

I still use an beige LG StudioWorks 700S 17" CRT Monitor with my main workstation and either a Watson 32" CRT Television or a Hitachi CNP 190 Color Television (Look it up on Google Images :P).

The colors and refresh rates are better than anything you will get on a stupid LCD screen.

I still use a CRT as well and indeed everything looks more contrasty and saturated. Still have all CRT TVs as well.

CRTs are godlike. My monitors and tv's are all CRTs. Most of my formats are old, and I think DVD looks better on CRTs than HD TVs, it hides imperfections in the picture. Same deal with VHS and old games. They just don't look right on HD TVs.

With a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the blacks are really black. Pioneer calls it "blacker than black". Also, the colors are more vibrant. On an LCD, you might get this washed out light red color, but on a good plasma with a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the reds would look deep red, and not light red. The way they're supposed to look. Only thing my TV doesn't have is 1080p/24 Hz @ 72 or 96Hz. Only does up to 60Hz, or 48Hz with flickering. The Kuro's had a 72Hz refresh rate for Blu-ray and 60Hz for DVD. With 3:3 pulldown or on Panasonic's V and Z series with 96Hz, you get 4:4 pulldown and True Cinematic playback as they call it. Not quite as sped up as 120Hz, so it's just right. Or maybe it's the Auto Motion Plus that makes it sped up. It creates extra frames for that extra smooth video like feel. Panasonic's cinematic playback does not do this. That's why your movies look like movies and not video tapes.

However, when still made these Kuro's, you had to pay $5000 for one because they were the best TVs out there, and they still are if anyone owns one.

Was going to add, my TV doesn't do 3:2 pulldown, it actually does reverse 3:2 pulldown, which takes 24 FPS material (film based DVDs or Blu-ray discs), and converts them to 30 FPS. Then it doubles the frames for judder free playback, unless in the source. The 3:2 pulldown takes 30 and converts it to 24 FPS. I see the odd flicker, but I really have to be paying attention.

That's because LCD have a strict matrix and it needs to upscale picture to that matrix. For CRT it doesn't matter what resolution your source are using. It'll still have crisp picture with either 640x480, 720x576, 800x600 or 1024x768.

'Blacker than black' and 'Whiter than white' mean something different. Certainly it's not only Pioneer related.

Some resolutions are more optimal than others though, even on CRTs. Certainly on my shadow mask CRT, 800x600 works brilliantly @ 85 hertz. It's sharp enough without being too sharp and grainy like most LCD monitors, and everything is big enough to see easily. I haven't used it at @ 1024x768 for ages, but I can't remember it being as sharp. It's even slightly sharper at 640x480; but I can't stoop that far down.

Let's just say, on an LCD the blacks might be dark gray at best, while on a plasma, they are truly black. Same goes for other colors. I can't post a picture to show you because I think it might violate the rules (copyright?).

It also wouldn't help...because you are talking about monitors and colors but if you have different monitors, you won't see the difference in color the same way.

Lol this reminds me of an ad on tv with that old asian guy from the original Star Trek who's advertising a television with amazing colours and everything and ends with the phrase: "Well you get the picture... actually YOU don't."

I can't believe it, I just got banned from a forum! They found out I had like 7 accounts there, and banned me for breaking their multiple account rule. I tried the bribe an admin to get back in, but he didn't accept the money. Can you believe this shit?

Is it not enough that you have numerous accounts over different forums--you also have multiple accounts on the same forum?!!

Why do people need several accounts? It sounds like they've got something to hide. Otherwise, why not use one account.
