Also, does anyone want to watch all the Rambo movies with me? I bought them (and the first 3 Alien movies) for $40. Yeah, that's right...7 movies for $40. Oddly enough, half of them are older than me. The cashier jokingly asked if I was over 17. I like showing my ID (despite the terrible picture), so I had no problem with "proving" that I'm "of age"to buy such films.

Yeah, man, I'll watch'em with you.

Forget a LotR marathon...bust out some cases of beer and order some pizza: there needs to be a Rambo marathon. Of course, I don't have time right now to start the Rambo 3. I'll watch that either after 9 or I'll just do it later this week. I'm still on vacation so I need to keep myself occupied.

I'm still on vacation at my parents' house so I have lots of time to kill until I fly back home to DC on Friday. That reminds me, I walked through security with a tube of toothpaste...so much for airline security.

Well that is the best one.
I hope all that quake stuff isn't an indication for something bad about to happen, but we all know how Duke feels about quakes

The colors and refresh rates are better than anything you will get on a stupid LCD screen.

With a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the blacks are really black. Pioneer calls it "blacker than black". Also, the colors are more vibrant. On an LCD, you might get this washed out light red color, but on a good plasma with a 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio, the reds would look deep red, and not light red. The way they're supposed to look. Only thing my TV doesn't have is 1080p/24 Hz @ 72 or 96Hz. Only does up to 60Hz, or 48Hz with flickering. The Kuro's had a 72Hz refresh rate for Blu-ray and 60Hz for DVD. With 3:3 pulldown or on Panasonic's V and Z series with 96Hz, you get 4:4 pulldown and True Cinematic playback as they call it. Not quite as sped up as 120Hz, so it's just right. Or maybe it's the Auto Motion Plus that makes it sped up. It creates extra frames for that extra smooth video like feel. Panasonic's cinematic playback does not do this. That's why your movies look like movies and not video tapes.
However, when still made these Kuro's, you had to pay $5000 for one because they were the best TVs out there, and they still are if anyone owns one.
Was going to add, my TV doesn't do 3:2 pulldown, it actually does reverse 3:2 pulldown, which takes 24 FPS material (film based DVDs or Blu-ray discs), and converts them to 30 FPS. Then it doubles the frames for judder free playback, unless in the source. The 3:2 pulldown takes 30 and converts it to 24 FPS. I see the odd flicker, but I really have to be paying attention.

That's because LCD have a strict matrix and it needs to upscale picture to that matrix. For CRT it doesn't matter what resolution your source are using. It'll still have crisp picture with either 640x480, 720x576, 800x600 or 1024x768.

'Blacker than black' and 'Whiter than white' mean something different. Certainly it's not only Pioneer related.

Let's just say, on an LCD the blacks might be dark gray at best, while on a plasma, they are truly black. Same goes for other colors. I can't post a picture to show you because I think it might violate the rules (copyright?).
