I've already asked a guy but does anyone know the best way to ensure that I won't have to reinstall Windows (and lose everything) when I swap out my motherboard/CPU/RAM (got DDR3 but it didn't work with my current set up like I thought it did)? I hear that if it boots and can connect to the Internet it will sort it self out maybe and I'll just have to reactivate it.
If it's OEM version then you have to rebuy it. If it's not, then have all the drivers for the new motherboard on disk or something. If Win7 boots you probably be able to use it like before after installing drivers. Reactivation probably be necessary. That's theory, haven't done it myself.
It goes without saying, but make a backup before changing mobo.
