The problem with that backup solution is that unless I buy a new HDD or an external, I don't actually have enough space to backup my C drive. I should probably work on that...but I will be looking at Newegg again this weekend ish after I get paid and get my tax refund.

For backing up my hard drive, I have a local backup, and I also use an online thing called Carbonite: http://www.carbonite.co.uk/

For a fee, you have unlimited storage for everything on your computer uploaded to a remote location, and you can also access these files in other ways if you want, eg via the iPhone app.

On sale on Steam for today. That is why I'm asking.

I saw that Skyrim was on sale but it was a piss poor sale (something like 33% maybe but it only brought it down to like $30 which I don't think I can justify for a game...on other things, maybe.

Hey, I only have 16 hours to debate this. I need someone to tell me if $14 would be well spent on the game or not. Whenever I see a game on Steam for under $20 I get tempted, especially when I have some extra money from work etc.

Besides, I am getting a new motherboard/cpu setup for my new RAM and I might have some extended play time in a month or so.

I'm pretty sure 14 would be good for the game.

I think RAGE is worth 14 bucks, yes.

I still haven't finished RAGE. The action is top notch and awesome, also being able to keep 60 FPS is amazing at times... but I find the "RPG"-ish and driving aspects really boring. Can't stand driving the cars, can't stand the 'conversations' and such.

I bought it full-price not too long ago and I'd say I'm a bit disappointed, but it's definitely good for 14 bucks.

That is what I was wondering about. There are a lot of games that aren't worth $40 but for $15 a game might be more worth it. I like basing my game spending on $1 per hour of entertainment. That is a general rule, of course, but if a game isn't fun, even it is supposed to have "60 hours" of gaming, but it turns out to be 60 hours of monotony, I sometimes feel bad about buying it.

I haven't played Rage yet, and I've been out of touch with it for a while, so I was wondering; have id done anything to add customisation to the graphics for the PC version, or released that super high res pack that was rumoured a while back?

I have noticed that people buy games on Steam because of the deals, without considering how much time they have to play the games. If you don't have time to play a game, then it isn't actually worth anything to you. It's not like there is any value to having the game sitting on your hard drive unplayed.

Yes, I have that problem sometimes. I don't install the game unless I plan on playing it but there are times when you get a deal on Steam that you won't get when you do have time to play a game. I think of it has investing. At least that is how I justify it in my head.

That doesn't make much sense, unless of course you only pay $6 for games nowadays which seems to be an average length.

I don't buy (or play) a lot of (new) games these days...of course, if I get lots of re-play value from the game it makes up for the short first play through. For example, I could play Bulletstorm again on a higher difficulty or play through all of the ranked missions. That game was fun.
I've found myself liking RPGs more simply because they have more play time, but if it is a buggy or boring play time, I can't stand it. I'm not sure I enjoy Fable 3 as much as I wish I did. I think the reason I haven't beaten it isn't that I haven't had time to beat it but that the game is so...drawn out and I can't play it for more than an hour or so at a time without getting bored with it.

So basically you're willing to pay more for games if they are better, your post suggests then that length has nothing to do with it. In that case - well yeah of course. I would feel kindof ripped off if I paid 50 bucks for a game that was 3 hours long and wasn't fun enough to ever replay :D

Either they have time or not, but many people are buying game just because of its cheapness. I try to stay clear of buying anything I was not planning to play(or was interested) before the sale. Even if it's dirty cheap like Plants/Zombies for $0.5 now.

I only buy about 1-3 games a year. But i play the same games for so many hours that i play games more than people who buy games all the time :D

I was interested in RAGE, just didn't know if the game was as good as it looks. There are a lot of games that I'm interested in playing when I have time and money. Since I have money right now and will have time in the future, it works out. Since I rarely have time when I have money, it works better for me to buy when it is on sale rather than have time and no new games so I spend more money that I probably would have had to.

I don't buy that many games either. In the past couple years I've bought DNF, Mass Effect 1, 2, 3, and Skyrim. Out of those that I play regularly, just Mass Effect 1 and 2. I finished the main story in Skyrim then I was at a loss of what to do. They say this is a game that never ends and you can do anything with it. I guess I'm one of those guys who needs to have a set path on what to do.

I bought it. Haven't played it yet. Probably should have edited my post.

Yes. I pre-ordered it from Origin. Although I would have preferred Steam, it's not available on Steam.

Meh... I buy/play 20-30 games a year. :D

That's a lot. I have a friend who owns over 1000 games on steam because they were "cheap". He also owns an automatic vacuum cleaner for the smallest room in the world.
