It was a magical experience. I never thought I would see a movie so grand in scale yet so pure in art form. When I first saw it in 2004+ my jaw dropped. I can't imagine what people in 60s experienced while watching. The movie looks so fantastic that it visually stood the test of time. Which is unheard of for a sci-fi movie in space. Even today you can recommend it as a perfect looking sci-fi movie.

That doesn't come as a surprise to me. I don't think anyone would be caught dead holding a Fosters.

I highly recommend "Moon" by Duncan Jones (David Bowies son). Its a good story presented well.

You should have made a new thread for that.
Here's my list (alphabetical, to be completed...):
2001
The Andromeda Strain
Blade Runner
Dark Star
District 9
Gattaca
Metropolis
Solaris (1972)
Total Recall
Welt am Draht (1973, German), after Daniel F. Galouye's Simulacron-3 (later film: The 13th Floor)
Westworld
X-Men
Most SF movies do not age very well since they usually reveal much more about the present than the future.
I think science fiction is more a setting than a genre. There is horror, action, comedy, ... and Flesh Gordon.
When I was a child I once watched a Russian(?) SF movie on East German TV about a boy who discovered a stone containing a million year old extraterrestrial probe. Does anybody know the title?

Quite honestly I would recommend both of them. Soderberg's is quite mesmerizing.

STAR WARS
(the original trilogy)
(the podrace in Episode 1 is also pretty cool)

The original trilogy is only available on VHS I believe. The current trilogy is the one with the new effects/scenes (for DVD and Blu-ray).

Bottom line, I'm now buying SW blu-rays. Change in RotJ is unbearable.

Also, everyone knows that Han shot first in A New Hope, because he is a badass.

Only for the 1st episode(the other two had cgi Yoda already). The puppet was shittier looking than in original trilogy thus good riddance.

Yep, they did it for dvd release, but it's nothing compared to what they did with the culmination of RotJ in the Throne Room. It's like Lucas tries to come up with more sinister ways to alter the movie just to enrage people.
You have been warned!
P.S. Oh, Hendricks would you mind deleting your description of the moment? I'd like for people to actually see the change without knowing. So much more hurting...

I happen to think that change was made simply to spite the original trilogy fans.

I thought it was common knowledge anyway.
