In Australia, in my state at least, you can start driving at 16, have sex at 17, and vote and buy alcohol at 18. So at 18 you have all the rights of an adult. It varies slightly throughout our states and territories (all 8 of them), but everyone has everything by 18.

Of course in recent years, the bureaucrats have been fucking up overhauling our education system and beginners driving system. It's the combination of putting in policies that sound good but do nothing, everyone wanting to put their mark on an overhaul, and wanting to keep trouble makers off the streets by keeping them in school longer by dumbing down school for everyone that leads to the out of control, frustrating yet pointless and unnecessary changes to our society.

I love how you associate having sex with being an adult.

So... do you actually have a law prohibiting sex for anyone younger 17? :(

haha. I think he means age of consent; but, yeah, the way he phrased it sounded wrong.

Here in America, your insurance rates don't drop until you're like 25 or 28. I can't quite remember, but I definitely include that in an "adult perk." And yes, here in America, it is illegal to have sex under age. The problem is it's hard to prove. Often times the man in the relationship is the only one to have any action taken against him. Also, sodomy is illegal. You could arrest homosexuals just on a hunch.

Isn't it still illegal if it's under the age of consent? Although they never really do anything if both participants are around the same age. The law's really only in place to stop older men people from taking advantage of those who are younger.

In other news, I just heard on the TV that they're hoping to come up with an anti-aging pill that could potentially allow humans to live up to around 150 within the next 10 years or so.

Imagine that, people living an extra 50 years longer than usual. If it ever happens it'll revolutionize society in numerous ways.
1. The life layout of humans would be different. I.e we spend about 25 years at schools and universities, only to spend about 30 years contributing back to society before retiring, which isn't really a good ratio, this could allow us to contribute more, or enjoy a much longer retirement!
2. Pretty much everyone is going to want this pill, it's going to be very much in demand and medical companies would be able to charge pretty much whatever they want for them, and people wouldn't want to stop taking it, kind of like other illegal drugs with addictive properties.
3. It could create even more social distinction between those who can afford to have the pill, and those who can't. I.e the homeless people who'd only live about half as long as everyone else would be even more frowned about by society as 'short-lived scum.'

Isn't it illegal for just an adult to have sex with someone whom's age less than age of consent? Or is it also illegal to anyone under age of consent to have sex? And what would be the maximum punishment by law then?

Yeah, right. If you're serious then I would like to see some proof about that.
edit: Are you talking about laws that were voided by Supreme Court? Technically they aren't active anymore.

And who would pay for retirement? Because you will have majority of population in retirement.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal for anyone under the age of consent to have sex, but like I said, they don't really do anything if both participants are the same age. It's mostly to stop older people taking advantage of younger people.

That's what I'm trying to say, society is going to change (if the drug comes out), and people could be working for longer.

Well, I glanced through wikipedia page in Australia's age of consent. There are some rules about age difference if the person isn't older than 2 years for example. Although, it depends on state or whatever. Really confusing. :(

The US is already working towards that and soon Social Security will be bankrupt and the people protesting Wall Street don't realize that their retirement is linked to the stock market (401K etc are stock portfolios put together by your employers) so they are kind of fucking themselves there.

I was reading this article yesterday about how CEO's are overpaid. For example, a lot of CEO's make 100 or more times what the average worker makes. Do you really think they need millions of dollars to live on each year? The CEO doesn't decide it's pay. They said the stock holders or board of directors do.

Considering what CEOs do or had to do to get their job, I'm less unhappy about their pay than the pay of politicians etc. Members of the US congress make $170,000 a year which comes out to 3 times the national mean. How can people making 3 times as much as the average American family represent the average American? They can't but they'll do anything they can to keep their job because they lack any other skill than bull shitting (generally speaking).

When a CEO who runs a single business makes more money than a guy who runs an entire country, that's kind of weird. I'd think that a leader of a country would do more than a guy who runs a business.

How do you measure a politician's performance?

People like me automatically see politicians as destroying wealth, not creating it. In other words, politicians should not be paid but be made to pay.

I guess all I'm saying is it's a pretty big gap between your average worker who probably makes $30-40K versus a CEO makes a salary in the millions including stock options and such. I'm not the only one though who thinks this.

Wow...I just had the most bizarre experience while watching House...

Girl1: Can you to do me a favor.
Girl2: A favor?
Girl1 gives Girl2 (I can't remember their names) a set of nice shoes.
Girl2: You want me to return these? Give them to someone? Wear them while you masturbate?

I was stunned. Shocked. Lost in laughter... :(

Going to give Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d a whirl. Basically Lockheed licensed the FSX engine called ESP from Microsoft for a huge sum of money and is now making their own simulator. It looks like FSX except it's heavily tuned. It's got DirectX 11 (coming soon), SLI/Crossfire, 64-bit (coming soon), multicore support (proper, unlike FSX's use one core the most, while the rest maybe do 25% load at best), as well as something they described as running the sim to use the CPU/GPU power of two or more machines. Don't ask me how that is done. Parallel processing of some kind.

I concur. Here in America, from the Congress on up you get LIFE benefits, like health care and such all on the tax-payers money. So here in America, you only get socialised health care if you're the person voting against it. Hehehehe.

Sodomy is only illegal in some shithole states in the south and midwest. Even then, it goes unenforced most of the time.

Also, most U.S. states list the age of consent at 16, although some are lower. I had no idea that you guys had 18 as your legal age. I thought only Cali had a legal age of consent that high. Fuck the South.

The legal age of consent here in NY is 17, which is high, but it's offset by the fact that no one here gives a shit about crimes like that because we aren't a bunch of conservative whackjobs. We randomly see transvestites making out in Manhatten, we could care less about a 20 year old jamming his cock into the turd cutter of a 16 year old.

To be honest, I didn't even know it was 18 until I was looking at that page to post it. I was under the impression it was 17 myself. Go figure. Virginia blows.

Sodomy is perfectly legal everywhere in the United States despite unconstitutional (and, as such, nominal) bans against it in some states. Those laws are not enforced because those laws are invalid.

from the news story that you so triumphantly linked:

Quote

The judges who ruled against him said the law survived the Lawrence decision at least in part. They pointed to a sentence in the decision that said “the present case does not involve minors.”

The legal question in Mr. MacDonald’s appeal to the Supreme Court is whether that sentence means Virginia may continue using its general sodomy law in cases involving minors or whether it must enact a new, focused law if it wants to punish sex between adults and minors.

Since Mikko didn't claim that laws against sex with minors are invalid, that means you are mostly wrong in thinking that this case is a counterexample.

What? I wasn't talking about sex with minors at all, this is still a case where a man is being charged with sodomy.

Must be really careful these next few days while blowing my nose. I have a sinus cold and while I was blowing my nose, it exploded and caused a nosebleed. I wasn't even blowing very hard. Just did it a lot because there was a lot of stuff (usually is since it's a sinus cold).

So...I'm stuck working tonight instead of being able to watch the World Series. I'll admit to not paying much attention to baseball or my native team (St. Louis Cardinals) most of the year, but when you live 900 miles from home and they only show local teams on TV, it is hard to keep track without going the extra mile, something I don't usually do. However, I'm still a big Cardinals' fan and I want to watch every game of the Series because the last time the Cardinals' won it all, I missed the last game and that kind of sucked. I am basically going to refuse to work on a night when they could clinch it.

In other news: Tuesday I had a cup of coffee and was wired while taking a German test...I finished (apparently) 20 + minutes before anyone else...got a 90%. Kick ass...but I didn't like the feeling of being so wired up. I'll be cutting caffeine out again.

I stopped watching sport several years ago. Everytime it's the same shit. I've had enough after several seasons/years.
