WG Realms 2 Episode 1 Released!

This is pretty much the best mod ever after the balance changes. I'm having an absolute blast on come get some with the fixed version. Monsters will still tear you a new one if you don't watch out/don't know their positions by heart/get yourself shot in the back, but it's way less aggravating to die now because it's caused by a direct attack and not some gameplay mechanic after the fact.

Very good!

I'm glad the gameplay mechanics have been sorted out. Now we just need to find the source of the crashes and get that fixed.

I wish it would even crash here. I've played through WGR2 up to level 4 more than once now and it never happens. :/

You have experienced the other sound system related bug, though. Maybe whatever is needed to fix that will fix the crash as a bonus.

Unfortunately, I only managed to get the other bug to happen once, and since it isn't a crash the only way to pinpoint it is trial and error across hundreds of thousands of lines of code. :)

Think I found another bug. Are you supposed to be able to shoot the rocket launcher off to the side of the death knight boss and completely bypass his shield? Does about 150-200 damage per rocket, whether he's flashing to indicate he's vulnerable or not. Even works when he's in that blocking stance (aim at his sword). Once you hit him in the right spot it's pretty much a matter of holding down fire and unloading on him until he bites it.

Well if you have no issues with the win build can you try it on the linux version? I for one has lots of problems to get WGR2 running. I have to spam ./eduke to get WGR2 to start as it fails 50% of the time (No problem with vanilla duke). And the sound issues and crashes are there :)

Perhaps you guys with much more RAM doesn't notice, but the are MANY memory leaks with that version of Eduke. Perhaps it's a compiler issue, I don't know, but here, with 256 megs, I'm forced to play for no more than 10 minutes or the game will crash with the win error message of too few virtual memory. :)

Speaking of memleaks. If TX runs eduke on linux he chould run it though valgrind! http://www.valgrind.org/

Theres that, the BFG still damages it, the flame thrower still damages it and if you want to pick it apart; use the grenades. Toss one, hold the fire button down and freeze the death knight boss in a defensive stance, back up a safe distance, set off the grenade, and it walks right into the explosion, toss another grenade and repeat. It doesn't do large amounts of damage so you'll have to combo it with another weapon it's vulnerable to.
It took me half a dozen tries to figure out how to kill the damned thing and it was starting to piss me off.

Played the intro and the first map and came across a bug. The game didn't freeze once (which could be just luck) but every time I hit F2 (to save) in the vicinity of a portal, the game crashes back to windows. My EDuke32.exe is from 10.17.

Why aren't you using the included, more recent eduke32.exe in which that bug is fixed?

How the hell should I know which version has the bug fixed? I downloaded the latest public build because the one in the WGR2 zip didn't work, as I mentioned before. Not much choice between the two...

I just re-read your post about that, and you didn't say that it wasn't working. You said you were having a problem with mouse control, and I assumed you had gotten it sorted out by now because you didn't say anything further.

If you don't use the included eduke32.exe it isn't even possible to see the end of the game, because it will crash when you pick up the scroll after the last boss battle (due to another eduke bug that was fixed).

Could you guys list the musics you used and where they're from? The track at the start of Evil Awakens definitely seems it's from a game I played before. Is it Secret of Mana? Also, is one of the portal sounds when Axon summons you from Ocarina of Time?

I will try, but I don't know if I will be able to identify everything correctly :)

By the way, I am currently uploading a new version with the balance tweaks we have been talking about and other changes, so if you are just starting out, it would be best to wait for that. Hopefully that will be the final update for this first episode, although one can never be sure.

And I sincerely hope that it crashes for you lots of time so that the crash bug will be fixed. :)

If it's the level where you start off with a Knight attacking you, and Axon healing you whenever you're hurt badly in that fight, then the music at the start is from the Age of Empires expansion pack. I've also played that game AND I have the CD tracks for it and the original AOE and AOK[AOE2]. o.o

Evil Awakens - AOE / (somethingIdunno) / DOOM
Into the earth - UT / Unreal (Some horror middi)
Hell freezes over - Decent / (I dunno the other midis)

It doesn't work if the mouse doesn't work.

Yes, I had gotten it sorted out based on what you said, that the problem was with the included EDuke32 version. So I downgraded.

At least we know the mouse problem is cause by the new eduke32.
What happens if you switch back to the version included with wgr2? It may be a good idea to install the new pack, then delete the included cfg files and let eduke32 make its own. Though I could be wrong there.

My wife did the ship's computer at the beginning, I did the rest.

For Axon, I tried to make him sound wizard-ish and added some reverb.

For the talking doors, I added lots of reverb and lowered the pitch.

The freed warriors who spawn from the doors use my normal speaking voice (although I was trying to sound a little like that Bob helper NPC from Marathon 2 who says "Stop shooting me!" and other fun stuff).

Aha - always strange to hear a female voice in a Duke mod that isn't ripped from some other game. :)

Just made a video (with a camera, the 90's way to do things) of the bug I'm getting, will post it in that large bugreport thread..

Overwriting the older EDuke32 version with the one included in WGR2 fucks it up immediately.

If you're going to get cute about that, then at least make it over something significant like the ripped monster art, not over midis for crying out loud. Most of them are available at this site, by the way: http://www.vgmusic.com/ I'll come up with a list soon.

Ok since you all brought it up: is one of the midis from Ape Escape? That game has a song that sounds similar to a UT song but in-game I wasn't sure which was which.

Trust me, it's (the level of infringement) nothing compared to the AMC TC :)
