That is intended, some levels allow small skips like this.

Ah, alright then. I guess I was unable to figure out how to get back to the main track without the chair.

Yesterday I also played a bit of the Arrange Mode campaign, a very neat experience.

BTW, am I to understand that the old crouch-jump mechanic has been done away with? There's now a pair of jump boots in the first level of Arrange Mode (and I guess the original campaign as well?), which I had to use to reach the Blade Runner secret/Easter egg, because some jumps are not possible to make otherwise.

Wait... what? After all these years?

My most imminent question: Will there also be a version for those who bought the 3DR release? It seems on the website they are redirecting you to Steam and/or GOG, even for the original game. Which isn't exactly encouraging.
Otherwise: Is it possible to obtain a DRM-free version of Aftershock's fury.exe (without depending on Steam DLLs)? It would be highly appreciated.

I'll be sort of surprised if it doesn't appear in the 3DR store at point as a digital download, but even if it doesn't the files provided by GOG would work just fine if they have it setup in a way that you can purchase the DLC through them without having purchased the base game from them as well. Byte for byte, what you get in the GOG releases has always been 100% identical to the set of files that were sold as a digital download directly from the 3D Realms store.

You can also take the Steam version and easily create your own 100% drm free version of it (including the exclusion of the Steam dll files if you want) by copying the fury.grp and fury.grpinfo files from game folder in Steam and pasting them into a new folder, then just compile your own drm free binary from the eduke32 source files with the command make FURY=1

None of the maps from the original campaign were changed, so no boots there. Crouch jumping is still a thing also, but I think you're confused with the absence of sprite auto-stepping which is something Ion Fury got rid of around 2.0 IIRC (I'm a little fuzzy on the timeline), meaning that just pushing against a sprite at a certain height no longer automatically boosts the player upward the way it used to in the original version. I asked Davox and it's still possible to reach the secret place the way it's intended (without boots). If you're having trouble with it, I personally tend to use another method of entry myself

I played a bit more and I think I just forgot how the thing works. I press space then crouch, not the other way around, to jump higher. I confused this with the feature-not-bug crouch jumping from Aliens versus Predator 2 (man, I played that so long ago), where you crouch then jump to a considerably greater height compared to normal jumping, as the Predator.

@dwtietz:
I just need some Aftershock-compatible Win64 binaries which neither depend on any Steam nor GOG/Galaxy dlls (even though GOG stuff is DRM-free, pretty much no title works without their famous galaxy64.dll being present).

Unfortunately I'm not very good at compiling stuff on my own. Used to do it for Crispy Doom binaries for a while, but gave up on it since I didn't want to have several GBs of compiler tools on my HDD which I rarely use.

I would use fury.exe from the original 3DR release, but I assume Aftershock has some features which won't work with outdated code.

Update:
Miracles still happen. I was able to compile latest fury.exe (Win x64) successfully. Result below, for anyone who needs it.

I still haven't finished the original game, for me, it was a bit of a strenous experience, but I remember it had some good moments. Watched some videos of the sequel, there are some new enemies and stuff, levels look like... levels. I haven't payed enough attention, but they seem blending together a bit.

Can you help with the designers of the zones/maps? I haven't found any information. It's still oasiz/Daedolon/DavoX/Methy?

Do we know the actual designers per zone? I'm not yet buying the DLC, just asking.

Of course, you can open the map and see the designer's signature. To avoid spoilers, I won't tell here who made which level, but I have to admit that I like Aftershock's level design more.

I just noticed that if I climb a ladder and switch to the third-person view, the game is still playing Shelly's climbing animation even if I don't move. Current Windows version (3.0.03.10482-2bd99eb00).

Gotta say feels good to finally get this, didn't even think this was going to come out at some points. Don't know if I would go as far to say it's better or worse than the base game. But I think it being short but sweet might give it an edge. The bike is of course a big highlight, and it's nice that they don't just give it to you for just a small bit in one level. All most all the power ups and new weapons are great (don't get what the inflatable chair is for though). also having a native Linux build is always nice!

Anyways back to making mods for this game!
