Vin Diesel as Duke without hairs or Vin Diesel with a blond wig... I don't know...

Altered Reality once wrote he wants a game that makes him forget Duke3D. I'm not in a fetish with 2D sprites and pixelated graphics. But somehow no games managed to make me forget the likes of Doom and Duke. There is a reason these games are still played and modded despite being made over 25 years ago. FPS took a new direction and some people are salty about that. Gearbox does the best if they try to fix this issue with a new game that is trying to make a new and better version of D3D.
But even a different style or modern style game like Doom 2016 would be good if it will be made with some respect and care. But it should be a GAME, because Duke is not a movie character, he is a game character with gaming history. Movie can be a bonus, but only AFTER a well received decent game is made. Dessert after a dinner.

There are way too many moving parts in a new game, the more complex the project the easier to disappoint. With a proper Atomic Edition type expansion it would be more realistic and doable without disappointing. A brand new game I would leave for 30th anniversary at this rate.. and I just don't like modern games anyway, I would just keep releasing new episodes for the classic games every X years to keep. The new Doom games are cool, but they get boring after a while. I can't get through Doom Eternal. The build engine has a cool characteristic retro vibe that gives me a better feel than modern games. Just like Minecraft gives you a nice feel without needing great graphics while there's other more realistic and complex sandbox games that just don't feel right.

Duke nukem 2 is awesome. Kinda assholish and cheap sometimes with enemy spawning though. I really have to replay them again.
Also Perro Seco? Por que no Perro Mojado carnal?

Duke 2 suffers a lot from the cramped viewing area and charscrolling, although the soundtrack partly makes up for it.
I'd say Duke 1 has held up better though, and is seriously underrated. It's one of the very best DOS platformers in my book; way better than something more popular like Jill of the Jungle or Jazz Jackrabbit.
I also think it's interesting how much of Duke 1's gameplay DNA still exists in Duke 3D.

There are ways to cut down the number of moving parts -- simplifying the art is a big one.

Another cost-effective solution is to finally release some of these Duke3D betas. I know it's been discussed thousands of times but really, it'll be the best gift ever.
Most likely there won't be anything.

Gearbox is too worried about legal stuff. Most likely they just don't want to be hit up for royalties (it's already happened once...) Pigs will fly when Gearbox officially releases them. Just get the Zoom release, it's fine.

Just like DNF betas.... when pigs fly! It's more likely that betas will be leaked than officially released. Gearbox won't release anything they can't sell.

Does an entity exists at this point that can sue for royalties for the expansions? Afaik they are abandonware right? I can literally download the expansions from mddb without paying a cent.

When Bobby Prince got up and started suing Randy and Gearbox, that was really the end of it. That was when I knew we had vultures chewing on a corpse. There's nothing left.
and Vin as Duke? No fucking way. Maybe back when they made Pitch Black. And without a movie to back it up it just makes no damn sense to do it.

WizardWorks owned the expansions, while Wizworks itself was owned by GT Interactive, which was bought by Infogrames, who later bought Atari and renamed itself as such. They still exist to this day.
But yeah, I get what Jimmy said. The only thing that we know for sure's that Randy will think how cool he is by owning the Duke IP, while watching some magic tricks or smtn.

I found back this article :
http://au.ign.com/ar...duke-nukem-game
Then they just need to find a studio to get the job done, if its not done yet, but with the polish devs of Sonka having made a great job on the Switch version of DN3D 20th anniversary WT, maybe they have finally found...

This quote boggles my mind. The strippers and posters in Duke 3D could be considered sexists by today's standards. The fucking strippers bounce their tits around when you tip them money. Are you telling me that the strippers in DN3D are less offensive than the ones in the expansions? Steve Gibson is either a very paranoid git, a retarded soyboy or both.
Fucking hell even the complete Borderlands series that is at times woke as fuck could be considered racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist and I'm sure all the other 'ists. Mad moxxi alone is a walking virtual feminist nightmare.
I fucking hate modern PC culture.

1. Duke Nukem World Tour and Megaton Edition would be combined into a single new product. Duke Nukem 3D Ultimate Edition. With free releases of the DOS version of Duke 3D, just like Shadow Warrior. WT and Megaton would be released as a single entity with full Steam Workshop support, all three official expansions, and a new episode created by 3D Realms and community veterans combining their efforts.
2. Along with the ultimate edition would be releases of Duke 3D prototype builds, and the DNF 2001 build.
3. A large bundle on Steam with all the Duke games from Duke 1 through Forever. including DNU. This would go for 20 bucks.
4. A full documentary on the history of the Duke Nukem franchise done by somebody like Noclip or Retro Ahoy.
5. An announcement from Gearbox on an animated Duke Nukem film to coincide with the release of a new Duke Nukem game for next gen consoles called Duke Nukem Triumphant. (If you know your Batman film history, Batman Triumphant was going to be the title of a movie to come out after Batman Forever.)
We don't live in that universe though. Shit happens.
I'd love to see the community pull together a map pack and have a nice fat voxel pack release to go with it.

This but by the community. If Hendricks came one day and posted that every big dog in the community was uniting to do something like this I would literally sacrifice my left nut to the Elder gods. And maybe it would motivate Gearbox to do something good and productive for once. NO RANDY DROP THE CELLPHONE!! DON'T YOU DARE CALL THAT LAWYER!!!!
Ultimately it doesn't matter IMO. Ion Fury has become the legitimate successor to the Build games of yore. And with the new fad of "retro esque" fps games going strong I'm hoping we will see a new 80/90s 'roided up, chauvinistic fps protagonists come to the front. It's only a matter of time before a Duke Nukem fan will want to make their own version of Duke.
With naked hookers and blackjack.

I know it's a bit useless and even annoying to say it, but I'm also very interested in Duke 3D betas since I watched that video in 2014 about the prototype from May 1995. The music, those extensive levels, the plasma rifle... It may be just an unfinished prototype, but for me it feels very nostalgic and much more interesting than any new Duke game could be.
#119 Posted 08 October 2020 - 03:42 AM
I'd say that they should release it for free if it's just some unfinished prototype.
Or heck, just add it as a bonus when you'll purhcase a WT. This way they'll make some money off of it.

Not holding my breath for anything Duke appearing, especially those, but one can still dream.
